Breyer’s Ice Cream was founded in 1866 by William Breyer, who sold ice cream off of his horse and buggy cart in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The business was incorporated in 1908 and sold to National Dairy Products in 1926.

Today, the company operates as a subsidiary of Unilever Corporation. Up until 2006, the company was well known for producing the most natural type of ice cream possible, usually with nothing more than 3 or 4 ingredients. In order to cut costs, Unilever reformulated many of their most famous ice creams. Ingredient lists now can be as long as 40 items. In fact, many items have been reformulated so that they no longer contain enough cream and natural sugar to be called ice cream. These items are now sold as “frozen dairy desserts”

Breyer’s Ice Cream is frequently confused with another brand of ice cream called Dreyer’s, which is common on the West Coast of the US. Although the names are almost identical, they are two different companies.

I have been looking for the Carb Smart bars which have disappeared off the shelves everywhere. Pleas start making them again as I am diabetic and it is one of the few good treats I can eat.

I purchased some Bryers Ice Cream six weeks ago and when I opened it yesterday, it is all icy and coming away from the sides of the carton. I took it back to Fred Meyer’s and was told that I cannot keep ice cream for six weeks and to report this issue to the company, thus my reason for this e-mail.
    Thank You, Sharon Cowley (503.246.XXXX).

Question…have you stopped making Peach ice cream ?
It was always available when I lived on the East coast, but have not found it here in Portland OR and friends elsewhere here on the West coast have had the same loss.
    Thanks.

I was enjoying your Reese’s Peanut Butter Crunch with fudge when I encountered a piece that did not want to crunch. I thought about giving it a bit more bite, but my better judgment said no. Good thing because this unnatural ingredient was a piece of hard black plastic broken off something that was cylindrical such as a nozzle tip or bushing. It has a very sharp rounded edge at the tip of the break. The object could easily broken one of my teeth. Or, worse cut my mouth which could have been life-threatening because I take anti-coagulant medicine. I am fine, and do not seek compensation. I want Breyers to know of this danger. Where should I mail the object? What if my 3 year old granddaughter ate my serving and swallowed it? I have been eating ice cream for 68 years and never had anything like this. Please contact me. This is so important

    Breyers Ice Cream Co.
    Attn: Mr. Paul Polman
    Greenbay, WI. 54307

    Dear Mr. Polman,

I hope this note finds you well.

These past several years, your ice cream flavors are becoming less and less appealing and are contain more and more preservatives: Corn Syrup, High Fruitose and Carrageenan; which are very dangerous additives that are very detrimental to a person’s health! Why would you add these preservatives to your ice cream?
Years ago many of my entertainment friends and I loved all of your delicious flavored ice creams that were without these dangerous additives!
I hope you make many positive changes to your ice cream flavors and totally remove ALL Corn Syrup, High Fruitose and Carrageenan from ALL of your ice creamflavors and gelatos as soon as possible!!!!!
We are looking foward to the removal of all persevatives from your Breyers Ice Cream flavors in the future. I await your reply to this highly important matter. I await your reply!

    Sincerely yours,
    John Chookasian

I’ve seen your ice cream commercial about your ice cream being primarily milk. At the bottom of the screen it states that people can read the extended list of ingredients. That got me thinking, why is there an extended list if the primary ingredient is milk? So, I found the list of ingredients. Milk is more of an afterthought than a primary ingredient. The primary ingredients are thickeners and sugar. If one is looking for a good tasting and healthy ice cream, one would be better off looking elsewhere than Breyer’s for ice cream.

I just bought waffle cone ice cream. It was terrible. You’ve changed how you make it. The waffle pieces tasted freezer burned. …and I’ve never seen a white waffle cone. Very dissapointed!

I’m not seeing anywhere to email a complaint other than by calling. I bought a Breyers Fudge Twirl Ice Cream. Guess what!? NO FUDGE. I’m pregnant and wanted my yummy ice cream. It was NOT YUMMY. It tasted terrible that I dumped the bowl I had of it down the sink. I ALWAYS buy this ice cream … now I’m debating …. I was having a terrible day and wanted to drown it away with my favorite ice cream — this made my day WORSE. I didn’t think that was possible.

Today I purchased breyers mini m and m burst ice cream and there was not a single m aND m in the container.. I am extremely disappointed… I wouldn’t have spent the money on a name brand ice cream if I knew it was going to be no where near what the package said. If I could post the pics on here I would.. what a rip off never again will I get this brand..

I am not seeing any evidence that anyone from Breyer’s AKA Good Humor responds to any of these customer comments, let alone reads them. But, this might be useful for other customers.
We recently purchased their gelato in a flavor we’ve purchased before. There was a foreign object in a spoonful which I still haven’t identified. It has the consistency of brown paper bag but with a reddish tint likely due to the raspberry flavor. Not appetizing. In fact, we won’t be purchasing the gelato again since this has ruined our palate for it.
Even more recently, we purchased coffee flavored ice cream, the one advertising a new bolder flavor from Colombian beans. Upon opening it, there is a shrunken brick of ice cream with an inch of space on top and surrounding all sides. Usually, the ice cream is full enough to leave a layer on the inside of the top. This top was clean, which tells me it’s a manufacturing error, rather than anything to have occurred during shipment or storage.
The phone number in the above listing is out-of-service. Their parent company is Unilever in Englewood Cliffs, NJ (201) 894-4000 where you can request to be transferred to Breyer’s Customer Service.

I recently purchased my Breyers Ice Cream, I usually get vanilla because it’s my favorite but today I decided on the Oreo cookies and cream flavor.I wish I would have checked the sell by date as it tasted somewhat freezer burnt. I did buy it at a local convienience store and not a regular grocer which may make a difference as I’m not sure they check these things. It was so disappointing when I couldn’t eat it because of the taste and texture. I’ll be sticking with the vanilla and maybe chocolate from now on and if I want cookies and cream I’ll buy Friendly’s. I buy my ice cream in pints so it wont be in the freezer at home to long.
      Thank You,
      Karen

My daughter was eating some CarbSmart ice cream two days ago. She felt something hard but swallowed it thinking it was just ice. But she could feel that it stuck in her throat and couldn’t hack it up. She then found a small, round, clear plastic chip with sharp edges in the ice cream container- smaller than a dime. We saved it and can send pictures.
We took her to the ER for fear the sharp edges could cause internal damage. They said it would probably be fine, give it a couple of days but if it was still there in 2 days, to see an ENT for further evaluation. It’s still stuck so she went to the ENT today who scoped her. The scope couldn’t reach the chip though- it was out of its reach. He said wait the weekend and if it was still there, he’ll do an EGD next week which will require her to be put to sleep but will be able to reach the chip.
Obviously, I’m not a happy customer. My $5 ice cream container has turned into several hundreds in medical bills – not to mention the risk of harm to her.
I would like to hear your response and how you intend to assist me. Not sure if this is public so I won’t post my phone number. Hope to hear back soon! Thank you.

This is probably not the place to be talking about your situation. You should be seeing a lawyer and talking to Corporate office, not here where few, if any, from Breyer’s read this.

I purchased your Breyers Homemade Vanilla ice cream for my husband’s birthday. It had absolutely no flavor. We felt like we were eating fake ice cream. We use to love Breyers but we were very disappointed with this purchase. Looking forward to your response. Thank you.

Breyers Ice Cream used to be No. 1 in ice cream, but no more. I see there is vanilla, chocolate and strawberry “real” ice cream. The rest appears to be “dairy dessert”…..what a big disappointment from the “real” thing. Had some homemade vanilla last week and realized it was dairy dessert….it was like eating air! My husband had bought two containers…I returned the one. I now buy other ice creams….unless I just want vanilla, chocolate or strawberry. Very sad…..perhaps the younger generation doesn’t care for quality. It is gone.

Just tried your low carb ice cream hoping for your original ice cream with less sugar. I found a greasy, slick mouth feel like fake whipped cream or coffee creamer. I read the ingredients list and found a lot of non-dairy additives. Maybe it just isn’t possible to make real ice cream without all the sugar but I won’t be buying this one again.

Commercial Ad. Poor taste of a ad. Mom and Dad eating ice cream. Son comes in asks for some. Mom and Dad selfishly tells son that he would not like it and they do not share. Poor lesson to teach son about sharing And makes parents look bad.
Here’s a better ad. Son comes in and asks for some. Mom and Dad smile at each other. All 3 sit down and parents give more then half of what’s in there bowl. (Good family values). Then they say to each other I knew we should have bought 2 or more at a time. Your right honey.
Note: when I am at the store I always buy a backup. But not everyone does unless you give them that idea.

I bought your Breyers ice cream cake with chocolatey crunchies from my local Walmart, but was very disappointed to find absolutely no chocolate to crunchies at all! It was just plain vanilla ice cream! Not sure how this happened, but I wasn’t too happy.

Bought your Breyers coffee “now even BOLDER with 100 % DARK COLOMBIAN coffee” It had no coffee taste and no taste at all. I ask five other friends to try it thinking it might be me. Everyone had the same opinion. I know what coffee ice cream taste should taste like but y’all missed the mark on this one.

We purchased butter pecan, no sugar added, ice cream at our local Shaw. Upon opening the package we found out that there were no pecan in the ice cream. It is basically vanilla ice cream. Very disappointed. Thanks, Art
