Banana Republic was founded by Mel and Patricia Ziegler, a pair of world travelers known for collecting clothing items that were unique. The couple opened their first store in Mill Valley, California.
Today, the company operates as a subsidiary of Gap, Inc. Currently, there are 642 locations around the US, Canada, and other countries, including Japan and Malaysia. While the company was founded in unique items, today it is more focused on luxury brands. In October of 2017, one manager was fired after telling an African American employee that her box braids were not “Banana Republic Material”.
The company announced in September of 2017 that they would be closing stores that were under performing, while refusing to disclose which store locations would be affected.
In April 2021, Memphis native Prep Curry was hired by Banana Republic as its newest design partner.
Headquarters for Banana Republic are located in San Francisco, California.

Aloha,
My friends and I have been customers for many years, and loved your clothes in the past. We do not know who your
buyer is, but we do not dress like “little house on the farm.” Please, please bring back higher fashion apparel like in
the past to Maui, Hawaii.

I am a very tall, senior woman who favors unstructured (no belt) dresses with sleeves. I also want my knees to be covered while sitting — a dress that is @42″-44″ long.
You show many midi styles that suit me but the styles are belted and there is no length given.
In your online description can you note whether the style can be worn without a belt (i.e., no waist seam) and the actual length. Otherwise I waste your time and mine having to chat with customer service.
Thank you,

My experience at the Park Meadows Mall was terrible. I was ignored when I came in and when I asked to try something on, the woman said, flippantly, she can help you!. I complained to the manager who was the rude one and she gave me a look as to say, I don’t care. I was going to buy a pair of jeans, but due to their attitude, I left. I would never shop there again, or recommend that location. Very rude!!!
