ARCO (Atlantic Richfield Company) can trace its roots back as far as 1866 when it was called Atlantic Petroleum Storage Company. ARCO became a part of Standard Oil for a time, then became private once again, opening its first gas station in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1915.
Today, ARCO belongs to BP, one of the largest suppliers of gas and oil in the world. ARCO gas stations and their attached “AM/PM” convenience stores are found only on the West Coast of the US. ARCO gas stations are known as “no frill” service stations with no attendants. Machines accept cash or debit card payments only and those using debit cards are charged an additional .35 cent fee. Despite this, ARCO remains one of the most popular gas stations on the West Coast, most likely due to their lower price on gas overall.
The company once had headquarters located in downtown Los Angeles, but has since moved to La Palma, California. Many of the ARCO signs have also been replaced with a combination of ARCO/BP insignias, but it is unknown if all ARCO signs will eventually be replaced.
In April 2023, videos show a very large crowd of mainly teenagers ransacking a Compton, California ARCO AM/PM minimart.

I went to ARCO 5 May 2023 to pump gas. I tapped my card twice and it got declined so I used another card which went through. Next day I called my bank asking why my card was declined at ARCO. They told me someone was trying to use my card inside Arco at about the same time I was pumping gas. I contacted the manager and she gave some bullsh*t story about it could not have been anyone in the store. But like the bank said the charge was actually made inside the store. Never again will I go to Arco again.

Today I went into the AMPM on Figarden Loop in Fresno CA and being a paying customer I asked to use the restroom and the new employee told me it was closed. I am of Hispanic race and as soon as his race walked in they asked for the key and I advised them it was closed. They then spoke i their language to the clerk and walked away. I then went to my vehicle and pumped gas and then saw them go back into the store and ask for they restroom key and the employee handed it to them. I went back into the store and went to the clerk and asked why he told me it was closed but then he gave “his people” the key. I felt discriminated against being not even 10 minutes prior I was told the bathrooms were closed.

I got hurt at the Arco on Stevenson Blvd on Oct 29th , I sent the owner the hospital bill and documents proving my time off of work, I had to get 5 stitches on my head. I have not herd from the owner . He called on my sisters phone the Monday after the injury but did not leave a call back number . he said to leave all the documents with the manager of the store but the manager is never in . I left the envelope with the clerk . it has been 3 weeks since dropping off the documents and of course I have copies. I will be getting a hold of the corporate office if he does not get back to me ASAP.

I purchased gas on location 501 w whittier blvd la habra ca on 5/24/2021 on 10:30pm. I walked in and purchased 25.00 dollars of gas for pump#5 repeated to sam twice that it was for 25.00 he seemed bothered that i asked for a receipt since i was using my debit as i pumped gas i notice the pump stopped at 30.35
I went back inside 2nd time to explain to sam what happened and his attitude exploded towards me and it felt super awkward that i was paying for gas and being spoken to this way made me feel confused. As i let him finished i told him look can i get a reciept for the final price of 30.35 you charged me 35.35 but pump only used 30.35. Sam said go get your reciept from pump he didnt want to give me reciept which is fine ill go get a receipt but machine pump #5 didnt give me one no paper inside so i went back 3rd attempt and he was so bothered went i came back and told Sam look your not going to speak to me like that im a customer and if it bothers you that i need assistance for your mistake than I refuse to be treated this way your an employee and you should be more kind to paying customers. Sam stated he was the owner of that arco so i ask k i will call corporate. I showed my reciept to the camera and that when he got raged and called me f-ing stupid get the f**k out my store my wife came out of car due to the loud yelling and in front of my wife he kept cursing and i was not going to let this jack a$$ treat us like that as i walked away he spitted but i was already by my car guy still decides to continue and intimidate me and my wife as we drove off wtf is wrong with today employees no f-en respect for paying customers i hope arco management figures out this incident cuz im going to follow up with corporate and BBB and social media f-en saaaaaaadddd ? p.s i took video on my phone when he was yelling at me and being rude

I have used Arco Natasha Oil at 9151 Painter Ave., Whittier, CA. 90602, for many years. Many times I use my ATM card and the machines do not have paper to print out a receipt. (Yes it ask’s me to go to the attendant to get a receipt but this can take much more time, which I don’t have) This morning I paid cash but the issue was the actual pump, number 5, to be exact. It stopped at about every other dollar and putting in $40 took much longer than expected. There is another pump at the same station that had the same issue a couple of months back however, I did not bother to place a complaint. And after mentioning it to whom I believe is the owner, it was like I was bothering him. (Not good for business, but in all honesty he has poor customer service skills) Gas prices are way too expensive here in California for us consumers to be dealing with these types of issues.
Your immediate attention is appreciated.

The Arco in Santa fe and Gage Huntington Park, ca Has a worker at the register who is a thieve her name is Eveli she steals the money from customers and when they get the pump numbers mix up she will not return their money , she pockets that money. Huntington police Officer P. Munoz covers for them and tells the clients is a civil case not a police issue. so its a conspiracy to take advantage of the customers . do not go to this Arco . customer services is also a BS

I will NOT buy ARCO gift cards ever again. One was bought and sent and then the mailbox was broken into. When ARCO was called and given the gift certificate number and recipe so the card could be cancelled, ARCO said they could not cancel the gift card. Chevron was able to cancel their gift card. ARCO has been impossible to work with even when we provided them with what they first said they needed. We will only be busting chevron gift cards in the future.

I have been paying bills for my company for 6+ years. I pay bills weekly. With that being said, I receive the Arco bill and the very next Tuesday, I cut a check. You can imagine my shock when I realized (after 6 years) my payments have been getting there late! We have been paying finance charges for 6 years! This is a direct result from Arco mailing their invoices out so late. This is totally shady.I called customer service to speak with a Supervisor and get left on hold. It’s happened twice. Annemarie is the last rep that told me to hold and left me there. So now that I’m paying via echeck, I did not expect to see additional charges. This invoice includes
Card Charge $15.00
2%Service Fee $92.79
High Risk Credit Fee $99.00
This company has perfect credit. Invoices were paid within 7 days of invoice being received. Arco takes pride in their lower gas payments but really when you add up all the fees brought on by Arco……really is Arco the better choice.

I have been a frequent customer at the store on Meridian and Kellogg in Bellingham, WA. Recently I was in the store buying my usual Frappe. They were out of cup covers, and I tried to get the attention of the clerks at the counter. There was a lot of noise, so I had to shout to be heard. The manager came out of the back and instead of helping me, began to berate and abuse me for making noise. He ended up by demanding I leave and never come back. Trust me, I will not be back. So he and you lose my business in the store and the pumps. Unfriendly and aggressive manager. Posted review on Yelp so others see your poor performance.

Went to arco off Balboa Blvd and parthenia., store 42039. Used pump 4. I was sitting in my car waiting to hear the click the pump makes when tank is full. Didnt hear it and was only filling up the tank to top it off before I go on my trip. Had to fill 1/4 of the tank if that to make it full before my long trip. When I saw the tank was over 27 dollars, I got out of my car to see what was going on. Shouldn’t be that much for a small amount of gas I needed. Well, pump was broken and gushing gasoline all on my car and on the ground. I told the women working there, and they didnt know what to do. Said they didnt have any water to allow me to wash the gasoline off my car or off the ground. I asked for a refund of some of the money since the pump was broken and dumping gasoline on my car and on the ground. I was clearly over charged due to the sensor be broken and not stopping the gasoline. They said they can only give me 10 bucks to make up for being over charged. I was not happy with this since it should have only taken 10 bucks to top my car off if that. Not 27.48! Waste of my money! All on the ground! They were very unprofessional and told me it was safe for me to drive around with gasoline all on the side of my car and tire. Like really? No! It not safe at all. Went to the closest car wash I could find to wash off the gasoline. Did not feel safe and disgusted by the service there. I will never go to this location ever again!

I offered him $5 for his help. He refused. He was a credit to your company and I thought you should know about this event. Gratefully, Joan Allemand

Hello,
my complaint is that on 03/02/19, I went to the Arco station on the corner of Jones and Flamingo in Las Vegas NV to purchase gas. the posted price on the sign reads $2.719 per gallon of premium. I only purchased $15.00 worth and while I was pumping the gas, I noticed the pump read $2.979 a gallon. I went to the cashier and asked for the difference back in cash or more gas, they told me there was nothing they could do. They told me the manager hasn’t been in for a couple of days. what do I do at this point?
Thanks,

I live in visalia California and we have two ampm One is corporate the other is Franchise Owned,
I have to drive an extra 4.2 miles out of my way to the franchise ampm on Lovers Lane to get better service and all of their pumps are in working condition.
The ampm on 63 that’s corporate ran, the manager and several of the girls that work are very rude. The times that I do have to go to the ampm on 63 half their pumps are down and it’s been like this for the last 5 to 6 months which is very aggravating which doesn’t make sense for corporate ran gas stations would be in this condition. I try to contact corporate before over the manager and at the slushie coffee machine was broken for over 6 months. Somebody using Messenger ask me for my name and phone number and nobody ever called. I sincerely hope that somebody the right people we’ll take care of this and make it right for your customers. Thank you

I work in the area of 301 S. Anaheim Blvd, Anaheim, California. Well i needed gas. So I stopped off here at this location. The place was very busy. Long line of course. Well it was today June 27, 2018 between 1 and 1:30pm. As people were getting agitated by the wait the cashier named Viri was doing the best she can. She apologized to all the customers including myself for the wait. She was trying really hard to even keep up. I just want to say that she handled it all and under pressure really well and I’m proud of that. Especially on a hot day at a busy time. Very professional. I came back inside to get my change from the gas I overpaid. And again….same thing greeted with a smile. And once again she apologized for the wait. Please let her know about this email and that u received it and pass it on to her. This is a guest compliment. The next time i see her here when u gas up I will ask her if she heard about this compliment. So please tell her. Recognize her. Thank u very much and have a nice day.

I went Arco # 63337 Located at 1205 South Main Street Corona Ca 92879 on Saturday 6/23/18 to purchase $25.00 and $5.00 for Lotto tickets at Pump #5. After completing the transaction I went to the pump and it would not dispense any gas. I told the cashier and asked her to switch me to another pump. She said that she doesn’t know how. she was not very helpful. Said it’s not her problem and I would have to come back after 2 pm to talk to the manager. I had an appt in Riverside at 2 pm and that will not work for me. She said there is nothing she can do and she is going to call the police and they will explain it to me. This was in front of other customers. She gave me some bogus story that if the pump doesn’t work that it automatically returns my money to my bank account. She printed out a Duplicate Receipt and gave to me. She never bothered to check the receipt to verify funds had in fact been returned. They have not. The receipt is an exact duplicate of my original transaction with a total balance os $30.35 debited to my account.
After my Dr. Appt, I went back to Arco to talk to the manager that was supposed to be there. She was not. It was the same cashier that was there before. I asked her where the manager was and the phone number for Corporate. She called the manager and I spoke to her on the phone. She said to come back tonight after 7 pm and she will be there. She asked me to give the phone back to the cashier. She was instructing the cashier on how to view past transactions from today but the cashier couldn’t figure it out. They ended their conversation and the cashier told me to give her my name and phone number and the manager will call me. So far, I have received no phone call. The cashier also told me in a very smug tone to come back tomorrow morning but would not give me a time frame.
At this point, I am filing a complaint with California State Attorney Generals office and the California Department of Weights and Measures. I received no gas and no refund of my money. This is fraud. ARCO will be investigated for these nefarious business practices.

It is now Sunday and I returned to the ARCO as Karla said to yesterday. As soon as I walked in she that “she’s not dealing with me.” I asked her why she told me to come back in the morning? She refused to answer me. I told her that her manager never called me and I want my money refunded. I stated that by law they must give me a receipt proving that my money was returned to my account. She replied with “and by law, I can make you leave my store!”
She said that she is calling the police. She proceeded to call the Corona police department to report a disturbance. She demanded that I give her my bank statements to prove that the money went back into my account. I have already checked with my bank and no funds have been returned. Karla has repeatedly lied to me. When I asked her for the manager’s phone number she lied and said she cannot provide to me, when in fact the day before she said that she would. She keeps lying about when the manager will be in. Twice now.
What kind of scam are these two ARCO employees trying to pull on the ARCO customers and who else have they done this to? I demand answers. I am calling Channel 7 news consumer watchdog and taking my story to them for broadcasting. Maybe then I will get this resolved.
I am also following up with the California State Attorney Generals office and California Department of Weights and Measures to share my update.
