Prudential Financial Inc was founded in New Jersey in 1875 by John F. Dryden. It was originally called The Widows and Orphans Friendly Society, and then the Prudential Friendly Society. At the beginning the company’s only product was burial insurance.
By the turn of the century, Prudential was making the bulk of its profits selling industrial life insurance door-to-door. Industrial workers paid double what others paid for life insurance because of the danger involved in their work. High lapse rates meant that only one in twelve policies reached maturity.
Today Prudential Financial is a financial services company. With its subsidiaries, the company provides insurance, investment management, life insurance, annuities, mutual funds, pension and retirement investments, securities, asset management, and brokerage services in more than 30 countries.
In August 2023, the company states that it was hacked via a third-party vendor and that as many as 320,000 customers may have been compromised.
Stock investors in the company have seen amazing ROIs, with some reaping as much as a 64% return.
Prudential is a Fortune 500 company, that has been publicly traded since 2001, is composed of hundreds of subsidiaries with $2 trillion of life insurance, has over 40,000 employees, and had $70.934 billion in revenue in 2021.

I have been trying to settle a claim w/ Prudential that began in September 2019 concerning my late brother’s insurance policy. Received a packet from them which was promptly filled out and sent back registered mail (Philadelphia- got receipt- they got it). Then they informed me that since my cousin was my brother’s fiduciary. she would have to complete packet- which she did-sending it in and being told by Prudential that all forms were in order and payment was being processed. It should also be noted that my cousin retained a lawyer who was in contact with Prudential as well who was told that my brother’s policy was for X amount of dollars. She was also told that forms were in order and check would be mailed and should be received w/in 10 business days, This was in October 2019. No check ever sent and no communication from Pru’s Customer Service Office. Then last week (12/10/19) I receive a letter from Customer Service saying I haven’t sent them anything which would allow me to settle claim and receive payout!!!!!! Needless to say I called Customer Service and herein lies one MAJOR problem- every time you call you get a different person who has no clue as to what the problem is- you have to begin all over again! During that call the rep told me that all forms were in order, apologized for any inconvenience, and said the check was on the way. I called today (12/20) to find out when check had been issued and- lo and behold!!!!!- the new rep I spoke to said that “all forms were in order” and just waiting for check to be issued (sound familiar?). I worked my way up the chain of command in the call center (nice people BUT w/out any clue or power to resolve) and that person said he would personally look into it BUT call center had no control over finances. Then I checked sites in which Pru customers talked about service they had received. The responses were OVERWHELMINGLY NEGATIVE!!!!!!!!!!! Many having the same experience I’m having. MY next step- contacting the MA Attorney General’s Office. It is beyond my comprehension how a company such as Prudential could treat its customers in this fashion. It is criminal. They are the ones who contacted me!!!!!!! ….and then to be treated this way. Outrageous. I WILL never deal w/ this company again AND have told my financial adviser if there is anything in my portfolio that is one of their funds to DUMP it immediately. And, I will do everything I can-either through word of mouth or social media – to inform people that this company is incompetent at best and criminal at worst.

I have been in communication with Prudential, involving a Tax Error that Prudential addmittedly, in writing, for 11 yrs.
it has been very lengthy, detailed and resolve to the entire issue has not been met.
The debate is for the coding error, which in turn created a inconveince, and additionally a tremendous amount of my time , and expense for me which involved me having to file and pay taxes on an annuity I previously had purchased through my, employer
, Lockheed Martin. The error by Prudential has an entanglement with the IRS, that I’m continuing to pay on. The only concession that was to receive compensation for having to pay my tax preparer for their service of refilling numerous tax filings and 0 Zero for my time, stress, and total disregard for the fact I’m in I’ll health, which I have been since 2006, and all stemming from a CODING ERROR, of Prudential, and not correctly receiving a 1099, for the annuity.
This has been hell on earth trying to get resolved, as the 11 yrs speak for themselves, and it is STILL NOT resolved. Prudential will admit to the error, but that’s a non issue from their point of view. I differ totally with that. Had the error been corrected fully, and complete I would not be sending this info, and all would have been history. But my time appears to be of no value, nor of any issue for a 70 yr old female, in poor health, and OWING taxes to the IRS, from an error 11 yrs ago. Please explain how that is fair, honest, or correct. It’s the Error that keeps on giving to ME!!
My Father passed many yrs ago, and he had Prudential Life Insurance. I based my families good experience from that issue on how well Prudential handled the loss for my mother. Couldn’t have been any better.
Having that experience gave me confidence in my small purchase of the annuity, which has paid in full, but the tax error is costing me Every day.
Please have someone contact me on this matter if u will. I prefer at the end of my life, this won’t be an impossible task for my family to deal with. Thank You for allowing, perhaps a chance to resolve all problems this has, was, and Still is creating for me on a daily bases.

My best friend passed away and left his policy to me as the beneficiary. And His estranged brother as the contingent. The Brother put in a verbal contestament saying that Mr. Vane was ill. I had contacted Prudential and submitted doXXXXents to prove the Contestmeant was NOT valid. (And those doXXXXents were in their hands with in 24 hours of being told of the contestment) Prudential notified me that The brother has 15 calendar days to supply doXXXXents to support his accusation. On the 16th day I called to confirm that no doXXXXents were submitted and to proceed on with the claim. I was then notified that it is 15 Business days that The brother has to supply the doXXXXents. On the 16th business day I got a phone call from Prudential letting me know that NO/NOTHING doXXXXents have been submitted that validate the reason for contestment and that I would be getting a phone call the following day with the information for payment. The following day I get a phone call letting me know that supposedly doXXXXents were submitted from The brother and scanned in “late” BUT the issue is the doXXXXents that was submitted from The brother were not doXXXXents to validate the contestment or Proof of the contestment. It was a letter stating the same reason for The contestmeant that was made on February 5 that started this. But I was told that it was doXXXXents that could verify the reason for contestment (which was a lie) but there was no doXXXXentation proof. Now for some reason with not receiving any doXXXXents to validate the reason for contestmeant a Prudential agent (and I am STILL trying to find out who but they won’t tell me that as well) still decided to delay payment and proceed on with investigating this case over a VERBAL accusation. Over the next five months I have been supplying Prudential with close to 100 doXXXXents ALL validating the contract. Now please keep in mind. NOTHING has be submitted from The brother and yet I submitted Dr letters that validated my friends health and contradicted this statement for contestmeant. DoXXXXents that were notarized from witnesses that watched Him sign the Prudential life insurance policy. Notarized doXXXXents from friends of Him. Notarized doXXXXents from fellow law enforcement officers. As well as a 37 page affidavit from an FBI hand writing forensic specialist that I had to hire to and with out a doubt confirmed that My friend signed this prudential contract and and and the kicker is The person who is contesting it had left me a message letting me know that he is aware of me being the beneficiary he has no issue with me being the beneficiary as long as I help him and assist him with the closing of the estate and everything but tells Purdential something different . I even gave a certified court typed copy Of that message showing them that this is a lie and still look at what I’m going through (Now again NOTHING has been sent in to still validate the reason for the start of this contestmeant and instead of the 15 day period that prudential’s policy is. They gave the brother 65 days to provide ANYTHING and I even believe prudential even called him on May 5 to REMIND him to send in something and yet NOTHING was sent). Now during this time I am emailing and calling the CASE handler with NO respond back. When I finally get them on the phone and question WHY are you not responding to emails or phone calls, I get a BS story that my emails to them got sent to a weird folder and then and their while on the phone with the case manager they now got my 3 weeks of emails. In which some of them contained information that could have ended this already( not like they don’t have enough already to end this). I have done EVERYTHING and more to, without a doubt prove that 100% the policy is valid and the Contestmeant is not. But for some reason Purdential refuses to give me a deadline date of when this will be ended. Which is so frustrating and confusing since they have zero evidence for this reason of contestmeant or to have even started one. It is pulling teeth to try to find out where my file is who has my file and what is happening with my file. To be dragged out five months with just a verbal accusation is uncalled for and to deal with this during the death of a friend has been the hardest grieving to ever be put on a person. I have asked over 10 times already and can not get an answer but with absolutely NO, ZERO doXXXXents submitted to validate the reason for starting this contestmeant, who authorized this to proceed on and override prudential’s policy on contestments and 15 day to supply proof. Because that means ANY person can call and say over the phone any lie and Purdential can/will delay you for up to 6/7 months who knows how long this will keep going on for. Yes I am hoping that someone will see this and see the unprofessionalism that has been delt to me and hopefully someone from this company will have the decency to research and respond to this matter ASAP.

RE: Policy 430-526-346
Dear Manager,
The current beneficiary on the above policy is Doris Jean Hooper at Bolivar, MO, 65613-2412. She died in December, 2011 and it was only recently that I looked at this policy. Please change the beneficiary to my second wife, Katherine Louise Hooper at , Bolivar, MO 656132-2412. Or, send me the necessary forms if I need to initiate the change in another way.
There are two policies for my brothers: Robert L. Hooper, policy 430 526 345 at his last known address, Bolivar, MO 54513. He died in 2001 and I have no idea who his beneficicary is or if his policy is still in effect. Could you please give me that information?
Policy 430 526 344 is for David M. Hooper who is still living. Is his policy still in effect? If so, I will notify him and he can contact you directly.
If I need to direct my enquiry to another address, please notify me. Thank you for your help.
Thank you for your assistance.

As a long time Prudential stockholder, I’m completely shocked by the lack of knowledge and customer service regarding the payment of my late husband’s life insurance policy. I sent a certified letter over a month ago and am still having to make regular calls having to explain over and over again Prudential’s errors. There were many recorded calls I have doXXXXented where I was given the correct information, but paid incorrectly. The case workers can’t figure out the correct payment of interest for the state of Georgia that I’ve explained so many times and was told many times by several Prudential representatives on recorded calls. Metlife easily paid the other insurance claim with the correct amount of interest. This has been such a frustrating experience!

Dear John Strongeld-CEO Prudential,
You need to be aware of lack of communications, and NO customer Service for any of your supervisors and staff at all locations- divisions of Prudential. Supervisor calls back with no updated information and no return phone #, will not give information to file a complaint either. This is after numerous days, weeks, hours of calling-really!
All of these divisions no resolution- Prudential Financial Advisor, Advantage, Command, CompuStore. If you want to be a client of Prudential any division you must be prepared to work always. Let the record show still they have not found my account.

To whom it may Concern,
Local brokerages where not helpful in the Frankfort, IL. I had to call Schaumburg office to get transferred to main customers service number. She was helpful to offer some kind of solution.
I have placed numerous calls to locate my account, been informed to call Advantage, Wells Fargo, Command, CompuStore, and the list goes on…Still no resolution of my account that I thought I was going to invest additional funds. Written letters to CEO’s and shareholders of lack of communications, and no customer service, only inconvenience to the client. Will need to share with all my peers and colleague of how Prudential is currently doing business..
Waiting for this issue to be resolved!

I am totally discusted with prudential. My husband has been collecting disability insurance for 2and 1/2 years(getting cut off 3 times). He had back surgery (fusion with equipment). His doctor says he can not sit, stand, bend, twist or walk for any length of time. But prudential says he can get a full time job. Keep in mind he is also on pain medication. He sleeps 3/4 of the day because of the pain and the pain killers. I dont know if prudential is discriminating against him for some reason or they are just scammers. I was told having disability insurance was financial security it has been nothing but a nightmare and definetly not financial security because i had to fight every step of the way for my benifits. and am now starting my 3rd fight.
