Carvel was founded in 1929 by Tom Carvel, who borrowed $15 from his future wife to overhaul and operate an ice cream truck in New York. When the truck broke down a few years later, Carvel was forced to sell his product by the roadside. After selling out in two days, Carvel realized that a store at that location would be a smart business move.
Today, Carvel is owned by Focus Brands and has more than 1,000 employees. The company operates approximately 400 franchised ice cream shops across the US, as well as offering its products in more than 9,500 supermarkets and corner stores. Carvel has partnered with other leading brands to create unique ice cream desserts, such as M&M and cookie makers.
The company offers hard-packed ice creams, frozen desserts, soft-serve ice cream, as well as shakes and ice cream cakes. The original store in Hartford, New York, stood until 2008 when it was demolished to build a Japanese restaurant.
Carvel maintains a corporate office in Atlanta, Georgia.
In December 2022, Carvel launched vegan ice cream cakes.

I’ve been buying sundaes at the Hackensack, NJ for 3 years. Approx 3 mos ago, i asked an employee if this particular Birthday Cake had CRUNCHIES (one of your biggest selling points and my main reason for differentiating your brand). She assured me it did. When i brought it to the family to sing Happy Birthday, my granddaughter and others were so disappointed – THERE WERE NO CRUNCHIES. I complained and an apology was offered with coupons. Fair enough. Today, a simply questioned why i was overcharged for 2 KIDS’ Sundaes and i was told i didnt get Sundaes, i was given a cup of ice cream for “x” cost and toppings were extra. THE KIDS SUNDAES were on the same sign as the larger cups but the owner disputed that. My argument was if it is on the same sign as the adults, one would assume the FREE topping also was on the KIDS offer. After receiving the owner’s call and disagreeing with me totally, i told him he can’t accept criticism of misleading signs…AND THEN ACCUSED ME OF COMPLAINING EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS!! (when today was my 2nd time in 3 yrs). He then texts me to NOT COME INTO HIS STORE ANYMORE AND IF I DID, HE WOULD CALL THE COPS AND CLAIM TRESPASSING!!!!! WHAT KIND OF A**HOLE OWNER HAS SUCH A THIN SKIN AND WHO IS HE TO THREATEN ME when i was not being threatening or abusive? If i survive tomorrow’s Quadruple Bypass, i will be spreading my complaints further. It’s a shame in an establishment with such great employees, the owner is a complete asshole. I will not be discriminated against.

My son, grandson and I went to carvel on Main Street in East Islip, N.Y. We all got different flavors. All three of us got sick that evening with bad stomach pain. Coincidence…I don’t think so! Please check this site out for sanitary practices. You charge outrageous prices and make people sick! This is so very wrong on all fronts!!!

Hello,
On 4/3/2021 I went to get a carvel birthday cake I we usually like carvel cakes. I was in the Queens, NY Howard Beach location and an 8″ cake was priced at $39.95. Usually I pay about $20. for a cake this size at other carvel locations. I have my receipt and would like to speak to someone about this price gouging at this particular carvel location. This is not right for a faithful customer to be overcharged by a particular store.

Today 5/18/19 I bought from one of your franchise mobile Truck a small sundae and on the truck there were pictures of all the ice cream that the truck sells BUT no prices next to the pictures, so when she handed me my small sundae she told me that will be $8.00 I feel that price is exorbitant. Also in NY according to consumer affairs dept. all prices MUST be displayed for each item that is sold. This truck was on NYC Parks dept property at Ocean Breeze Fishing Pier located at Father Capodanno Blvd and Seaview Ave, Staten Island NY
Can you please look into this matter.
Thank You

Hello,
My name is Sondra Randall and I received a Carvel gift card valued @$25.00.
I have tried, intermittently, since 2012 at various locations on Long Island in New York State. Each time I have presented it the card is declined. However, as recently as today, 7/3/17, I called the balance
inquiry line and card has $25.00 on it. Please advise how this situation can be resolved. The card number is as follows:
