Bruce Halle founded Discount Tire in 1960 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The company began in an old plumbing supply store and had only 4 retread tires for sale. Today, the company has 900 stores in 28 states and continues to expand. Stores in California go under the tagline of “America’s Tire Store”.
The company now has headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona, and is the largest independent tire and wheel retailer in America. In 2005, Discount Tire made the Guiness Book of World Records by having the longest continuously running television commercial ever. Their commercial with a small, elderly woman hurling a tire through a window has been running daily since 1975.
In early October 2020, Discount Tire opened 5 new locations in 5 states in a 4 day period.

I purchased a set of four new tires for my vehicle just two days ago this morning. I noticed that one of the lead balance pieces was lying on the ground. I went back to the discount tire shop and asked if the manager was in and the sales person told me he was out to lunch even though it was 10:30 AM and that he was left in charge as the manager, I explained to him that I just purchased four new tires and luckily I had found the lead piece. They used to balance my tires on the ground. He apologized and assured me that they would rebalance all the four tires which they did when I called the regional office to explain that I’ve lost confidence and discount tire the gentleman told me that he would reach out to the local store manager and they would do extra training. the gentleman told me that he would reach out to the local store manager, and they would do extra training with the installers I explained that’s great, but it still didn’t restore my confidence. I explained that I was very lucky that the lead piece fell off in my driveway and not on the road. Otherwise I would be driving around with unbalanced tires. I’ve been a true customer of discount tires over the years, but this has made me lose my confidence in them.

I ordered a set of wheels and tires early this week from your store in Des Moines, IA (Merle hay RD.) and paid a bit more due to being told I would have them by the end of this week (TODAY). I spoke with one of your employees Tuesday who informed me my products were ready to be picked up, I asked him to please check to make sure because I had just ordered them in the store the day before. he assured me that they were ready. I drove to the store the next day to find the 2 tires were in, but not the rims! After some soul searching on their part, they discovered the rims had just gotten there. Fine, no big deal Ill be back in a couple hours. So the store calls again a few hours later to tell me again, my stuff is ready to go. I go to the shop and while taking them out to my truck I notice my tires are mounted on the wrong rims!!! Again, after looking at the order it is decided the wrong rims were ordered. Mind you, I had a screen shot of the rims, tires and all part numbers which I showed to the person doing the order and the correct rims were on his computer monitor at the time!! I explained i was committed to having my car at a show this coming Monday, the 18th and i need those tires and wheels or i would go elsewhere. Your employee called the warehouse and set up for the wheels to be shipped overnight Thursday to receive them today and assured me they would be ready to go. I waited until 2pm for a call, no call. I called the store and found out the store closed at noon today!!?!?!?! THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO LET ME KNOW….. DON’T YOU THINK??? Is this how your business is conducted on a normal basis?? now, I am stuck. I would like some remedy on this matter or i will cancel the card I got for future purchases and never buy anything here again. Handled completely unprofessionally in my opinion. Like to hear this in person, I urge you to call me. Joe Galvan

On 12/30/21 I went into the local discount tire to get a new set of tires for my car. The time I spent there was pretty quick. Took my car home (5 miles away) and parked my car in the garage. 3 hours later, I got in my car and started it up. Immediately, I get a low tire pressure warning. Shows that both my rear tires are at 8psi. Not knowing why it would do this, I used a bicycle pump to air up the tires and made an appointment at the same discount tire location for them to take a look at it. The next morning, the tires were showing to be at 8 psi, again. Again I used a bicycle pump to air it up so I can drive to the shop. When I got there, they took the wheels off and tells me that the reason the why it’s losing air is because the rims (wheels) are cracked. These were not “hairline” cracks that you cannot see. It could easily be seen. I was not notified of any kind of damage to the wheels when I was there the previous day. There were no cracks to any of the wheels when I brought it to the shop and now all of a sudden I have 2 cracked wheels after they put new tires on. I never had any issues with air loss to my tires. The car is barely 4 years old. I have been a loyal discount tire customer for over 20 years and have purchased at least 8 sets of tires from them in that time frame. And now, not only have I spent $2400 on new tires this visit, but I have to spent another $1800 on new replacement wheels. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.

My name is Nancy Toole. I have been buying tires from Discount Tire for 20+ years. Last week I went to Discount Tire because one of the tires on my truck was lower than the other tires. I told them that I thought there was a slow leak. So they did did whatever they do and I drove home. The next day I saw that the same tire was low again but I was too busy to do anything about it. The next week (today) I decided to go back and get the tire looked at again because it was still losing air. I was unhappy but not overly so because for 20+ years Discount Tire has taken care of all my vehicles. They have rotated, aired up and whatever I needed every time I went in. Without charge and with courtesy and respect. Today was no different in that respect. They were courteous, respectful and got right to it. When they were finished the guy told me they replaced the tire in question. At No Charge. He said that after the week before and not being able to fix the problem that they decided to just replace the tire, with the same kind. I’m very happy about this and want Discount Tire to know that I have and will always tell everybody I know to go to Discount Tire. They treat you right!

I have been going to Discount Tire for 15yrs+ and never had any issues. Until I purchased 4 new tires for my 1997 F350 and got a flat on one of my rears while towing 20k pounds. Luckily I was already down the mountain and on flat ground so I was able to change the tire safely. While changing my tire I ran into a problem with the studs and them being stripped. Took me 3hrs to get the tire off, 3hrs! My 1/2” impact wouldn’t take them off and I had to do it manually. I was beyond heated that they ruined my studs. Well discount was closed so I made my way to BigO to get a replacement so I could get back on the road. BigO informed me and took their time to show me that the tire was literally shredding from the inside out. Made an appointment at Discount the following day to get reimbursed for what I had to spend for a faulty tire they sold me as well as look at the rest of my tires. At my appointment they got me in quick but didn’t resolve my issue how I expected. I expressed to a gentlemen named Brandon about my families safety and how I want to get my other tires checked out because I do a ton of hauling on mountain sides and don’t need this happening again especially with my family riding with me. I showed him the faulty tire and he said, “You drove on it while it was flat.” Come on now, first off, you weren’t there and second, I’m not an idiot and would know INSTANTLY if I had a flat pulling 20k pounds. I asked him if those tires were rated for my truck and hauling heavy loads. He said and I quote, “If they weren’t good enough, why would we stick them on there.” He said I could either get my money back for what I had to spend at BigO or they will swap the tire out but I would have to travel to a different location to get it taken care of since they didn’t have any in stock. I tried to talk to him about upgrading my tires and paying the difference but he kept me thinking I only had those two options. Spoke with the manager named Robby and he basically gave me the same run down that Brandon did, get my money back or travel to another location. Literally blew my mind that they didn’t care to look at my other tires/studs or worry about mine or my families safety. Don’t know if I will be back to Discount with the sour taste that was left in my mouth after this visit. Appreciated my money back but would of rather had them address my concerns. Now I’m driving around with non-matching tires and stripped out studs… awesome.. Sure hope someone reaches out to my email and can address this. Thanks.

On 9/19/2019 – I purchase 4 Discount Tires from the Discount Tire location on
10727 N. Freeway
Houston, Tx. 77037
These guys are young and don’t know what they are doing. A bunch of liars. They stole my LUGS and lied to me about them. They play too much and don’t take their job serious enough. I had to tell them to take the tire for laying on my car. That is a definitely no, no for anyone car.
When I purchase the tires, there were no issues with taking the lugs off of the tires. Well on 11/8/2019 @ 5:09 pm, I went back to discount tires to have them to replace the piece that keep the tires from bouncing since it has come off. All of a sudden, now they swollen. I’m so disappointed in this Discount Tire. I Usually go to the one on Airline where they take their job more serious. Evidently they did not clean the area for the tape to stick. Well, they claim that my lugs had some kind of plastic in them and swollen up and messed up my lugs. I really find it hard for all of my lugs to swell up. Juan Morales the assistant manager told me that they had to be replace. He explained to me the lie about swelling. He told me that to purchase they cost $50 or $55. I told him that I don’t have that to spend and he said that the best I can do is $40, so with me being a lady I paid a title $43.30 and he said that I will have so extra and he will give that to me and I have not received them. I left without them. Again another lie. They prey on WOMEN and tell they anything. I WANT MY LUGS AND MY MONEY THAT I PAID FOR THE LIE. PLEASE REACH OUT TO ME
LOLA 713 562-XXXX soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from someone from Discount Tires to resolve this issues
Thanks,

I have still not received the $66.00 refund as promised in writing by Dave the store manager, and three days later from corporate office in AZ. Also in writing.
Everyone I’ve talked to at Discount Tire are INCOMPITENT LIERS.
So now everybody local state and across country are going to know how you miss- treat people. Incompetent liers. I have all in writing.
1. You owe me the $66.00 promised a week ago.
1. You owe me $575.00 for the best Michelin tires you had I purchased. The store manager and the installer both said and I quote “YOU WILL NEVER HAVR TO PUT ANOTHER SET OF TIRES ON THIS CAR”. Incompetent liars. You put new tires on it and charged my son an extra $350.00 for cheap Falcon tires. Incompetent liars.
2. Every balance and Tire rotation even though they are told NOT TO MESS WITH TIRE PRESSURE, EVEN IN WRITING ON WORKORDER. Discount tire still could not handle this. INCOMPITENT LIERS.
3. You owe me $136.98 for the hubcaps your employees at Discount Tire BROKE. The two thought they were a NACAR pit crew. Incompetent Liars.
4. Management was told EVERY time. They didn’t give a shit. Manager sticks head I computer and never look up once, all of them.
5. UTAH BBB was taking care of this. The $66.00 money back is in complaint and I have Dave the manager email also saying check mailed. Incompetent liars.
6. They refused to answer the Nevada
BBB complaint.
I WILL NEVER USE A DISCOUNT TIRE ANYWHERE EVER AGAIN. Only thing they care about is taking your money.
Very dissatisfied customer.

I purchased a set of 4 tires a year ago at one of your shops in Indianapolis, I have returned twice for the same reason, right rear going flat. First time, was told a nail, but was never shown. Still had issues and took back on 11/21/18. I was told that I had “driven on a flat” tire and side wall was probably not any good. I don’t drive on flat tires so I resent the accusation. The sales person was a smart aleck. I have been going to discount tire for over 30 years if not longer, but I know where I won’t go back to. The tires are a year old and they won’t fix, less than 4,000 miles…..
I’m retired and a disabled vet, shame that this company doesn’t respect the elders and disabled vets enough nor any customer for that matter to take care of problem.

Hi:
My name is Cody Webster I have just paid for and had mounted, balanced and installed 4 new rims, and 4 new tires on my 2017 Subaru OutBack last night.
My TPMS light comes on and flashes then stays on. I paid for my car to be diagnosed today and found that either the TPMS probes are faulty or they are not the correct ones for my car and not specific to my vehicle.
I have to pay out of pocket $ 175 dollars for this diagnoses in order to make sure my car is safe.
I just paid Discount Tire almost $1500 dollars yesterday and waited for over three hours for my tire exchange. These TPMS sensor cost me $60 each, 4 in total, and I was told that they had to be put on in order to be legal and Discount Tire would not mount these tires with out them. Invoice number is: 6381079, The invoice number for the TPMS sensor is: 6381132.
I now have a vehicle that shows a trouble light on my dash and this has been diagnosed at my cost of $175 dollars today. I cannot get ahold of your store and waited on the phone for over 2 hours, still no service rep. My on Star System keeps calling to make sure I am safe as they can see that I have a trouble engine light on.
I will not spend more of my time waiting for you to correct your error without monetary compensation. You should NEVER have sent out this car as being finished and in working condition. NEVER.
I will require a full refund of my products at this point or at least a compromise that will satisfy this very upsetting, timely unsettling inconvenience.
If your store would require me to once again come in and wait for who knows how long, two, three, four hours this would be considered a non compromise and I will seek further legal alternative.
This is all your company does it put tires on and take them off and mount and balance them. I fulfilled my obligation in total and paid at once in full. You have NOT fulfilled your contract with me and even sent me out on these unsafe tires in a snow storm as the trouble light is on and my paid for diagnosed statement is that the tires are at fault. My NEW tires as of yesterday. You can either refund me in full or I will seek further legal consult and file a complaint with the local courts, in small claims, which will cost me an additional $75 to be included in my suite.
Further more, your personnel had place my old tires and wheels on my Beige leather seats instead of putting the seats in the down position and now I have to pay to have them professional leather cleaned. How incompetent can you and your staff get. Mounted unsafe tiers as the trouble light is on for a faulty tire or tires, dirty wet tires and wheels placed on my light leather interior, and charged me almost $1500 dollars for this totally incompetent service.
I will not let this issue go on with out further contact with your corporate office and I require your return reply no late than Monday 11/11/2018

This experience is totally unacceptable and will not be resolved until a refund in full.

I am looking for ward to speedy follow up with this most disturbing issues.

i have been buying tires from Discount Tire for 20 years or more. I am a 71 year old senior citizen and I have not been treated “with respect and fairness” as you policy states. I have had unpleasant experiences at 2 different of your locations in Katy, TX. Not about your products or services directly involving my tires. This is about how I was treated staff members & particularly both managers at each location.
1. when i picked my car up, after leaving it for 2 new tires. When i returned for my car, there was a large stain on the inside of my car door on the drivers side. The manager actually called me “liar” . He claimed that it didn’t happen at Discount Tire. I will never go back to that location!
2. at the other location, while picking my car up from having new tires installed, my son, who is 49 years old, was cursed at. When I called the manager, he didn’t come out and call me a liar, but all he would say was, “that’s impossible, I don’t employ anyone who would say that.”
Why on earth would I lie about either of these things. Why would I buy 2 tires just to get a stain removed? And why would I say someone cursed if they didn’t? My son & I are just not like that. My son is a single dad and a 7 year veteran of Desert Storm. I am just a 71 year old widow trying to buy tires without being disrespected.
I have been calling for the Regional Manger in my area, but he has yet to return my calls.
I would very much appreciate someone contacting me from your Corporate Offices.
Thank You

Recently I purchased a set of Michelin tires for my car. I also purchased a set a couple of months ago for my SUV . When told there was cracking on the tires (I was told that on other car also) I got pricing from the manager Todd Marlow in Tucson. The next day I took the car to another Discount tire store to see if I would be told the same and I was. I also got pricing and (after ASKING ) I was told that there was a rebate and they also lowered a labor charge to make it even more acceptable) the quote was adjusted so I made an appt.
I never mentioned the first store I visited.
When I returned home I saw that Todd’s quote was better AND he had
been upfront about honoring a rebate (I also called Todd to confirm that the price was what I thought it to be) He confirmed that it was.
I cancelled the appt at the Broadway store. I was asked why so I told him. He immediately called Todd and accused him of undercutting him. Todd knew nothing about my trip to the Broadway store and was totally blindsided by the call. Todd told me he would not be there the day I came in so I took the paperwork Todd gave me quoting the pricing. The tires were put on and when I went to pay I had to ASK to see the invoice before I signed to pay. It was quite a bit higher than Todd’s quote. I said so and without hesitation they redid my invoice without the need for me to tell them the original quote so they knew what it was supposed to be! This is deeply disappointing to me in the way Discount Tire handled my transaction.
I have used Discount for over 30 yrs and in the past trusted them to be upfront. However in today’s environment being an older female I have become accustomed to double checking to protect myself from being taken advantage of. The people (there were 2 employees) were reading the notes Todd made on my acct and decided for some reason to try to charge me over $100 more than my quote. This is below the Discount Tire
standards as I once knew them to be.
Todd Marlow gave me an acceptable price w/rebate on my tires. He did not try to undercut
the other store. However the fellows who checked me out did try to overcharge me.
The employees of today’s Discount Tire stores need to get back to the standards that the owner of Discount Tire has expected in the past.

I am very upset. I purchased 4 tires, lifetime rotate and balance, road hazard etc. This was over 600 dollars. Today My husband takes my car in to have tires rotated and balanced. To find out that the front tires have worn so bad that they can’t be rotated and it needs a front end alignment. There should be no way that my car needs 2 front tires and an alignment less than a year after purchase. My husband was told that the car needed to be brought in every 5,000 miles for rotation and balance. I had no idea about this. All the guy was worried about telling me was a LIFETIME front end alignment for $116.00. I didn’t have the extra money at that time because I thought it to be more important to purchase road hazard etc. Then I was told he would drop the price to $30.00…. Kind of sounded strange to me. Anyways I declined because I had just spent over $600.00.
The gentleman that spoke with my husband was very rude in explaining that we needed 2 new tires and an alignment when my husband asked why. Stating that its not the tires fault that it was neglected…. I called to speak with the supervisor… Only to find out that road hazard does not cover any of this damage, and I was supposed to have be told about the rotate and balance every 5,000 miles. THIS SHOULD BE TOLD TO EVERYONE!!!!! If I had purchased the “LIFETIME” alignment….. Turns out that it is only for 1 year and not lifetime of the tires Per Supervisor that I spoke with. The supervisor spoke to me like I was an idiot and tried to cover everything up by stating that his guys have been there since day 1 and would have told me all of this up front. Well…. Newsflash. I wasn’t told all of this. This is very upsetting to know that a person can spend that much money for less than 1 year of tire life. This is completely WRONG!!!!!
Thank you for your time!
