Haggen Grocery, often referred to as simply “Haggen”, was founded in 1933 by Benet and Dorothy Haggen in downtown Bellingham, Washington. Haggen has since become one of the leading grocery chains in the Pacific North Western part of the U.S. The company operates stores in both Oregon and Washington states under the Haggen name, as well as under the TOP Food and Drug name. Haggen is Washington state’s 6th largest privately owned company. Haggen specializes in produce and foods from local or regional farmers and suppliers.
The company has experienced a rough road, lately, and was forced to file for chapter 11 bankruptcy. Haggen announced that they were closing or selling 29 of their locations to the Albertson’s chain of supermarkets in March of 2016. Albertson’s will purchase these stores for an estimated $106 million.
Haggen hopes to hold on to some of their core locations. The company plans to abandon their attempts to put locations in the South West and remain a presence in the Northwest part of the country.
In early 2020, a man who was stealing from or living in the rafters of an Auburn Haggen location was finally arrested after eluding police for weeks.
The company retains only 15 locations after the sale to Albertson’s, with all of the locations in Washington state.

I just finished shopping at the Woodinville store, my experience with the checkers, wine sales team, meat and fish department and just random employees has always been exceptional, knowledgeable, courteous and willing to show me where I can find an item. This is why it came as a complete shock when an employee named Nils ran into me with his green trash cart, he couldn’t even say sorry. As I was checking out, he happened to appear at the checkout station, I asked him if he would remove his earphones, which he did. I informed him I was the person whom he ran into and I asked him if it was his custom to treat customers with such disrespect? His answer was so? I said well I would think you could have said, “excuse me or sorry”, his response was “ I don’t have time for this.” My question is “is this the new behavior norm for Hagen employees?

I am a haggen customer.
I have patronized for a couple of decades.
I am frankly fed up with the policy’s at the Fairhaven store.
Every time I shop there, there are people begging for money right on, what I thought was your property. I was done tonight when I encountered one right by the main door. I mentioned it to the checker and she shrugged her shoulders and said she was just a lowly worker and that the store manager didn’t care about that.
FYI I will not continue to shop there, because I would have thought that customers would be valued…..apparently not.

I have been a loyal customer and supporter of the Olympia store since it opened. I have not shopped there for six months because the facial mask requirement is not enforced. I am angry and disappointed in the company’s response because I love the staff and the merchandise. The policy should be enforced for the safety of the community, if we are a community.

I have been working for Haggen for 22 years and now the Styles have changed in jeans this hard for me to go shopping and find something affordable. They have skinny jeans a lot of skinny jeans which we are not allowed to wear. Why not go back to slats allowing your employees to feel more comfortable and wearing slacks. Slacks with more professional than jeans and are more comfortable allow your employees to make the choice

I’ve been shopping for over 20 years at Haggens stores. I’m troubled by the number of dogs allowed inside your Meridian store in Bellingham. I’ve complained to management and he does not seem committed to keeping dogs out of the store. He claims that they can’t tell the difference between pets and service animals. I’ve been in your other stores and they make it clear to their patrons that dogs are not permitted. I’ve begun to report these to Washington State Health department. I have a respiratory disease that causes me to limit my exposure to dogs. I’m willing to leave the store if the person has a legitimately marked animal, but for pets, I feel that you are putting up barriers for my disability. Please follow up with me regarding this matter. If necessary I will report your company to the ADA.

Hello there, my name is Dash D Matt, the helper clerk at Haggen Lake Stevens. I was having a great time working there and everyone says that I’m a great hero for helping everyone. But the verbal warnings that I had today was very humiliating and it made my heart torn into bits, face get red hot, melted my vision, lack of consciousness, causing power outages on my body, and resulting a severe nervousness. I hate having verbal warnings cause it ruins my life and career. If you guys have it under control, I’ll be very happy to hear it. Yours truly, Dash D Matt the hero.

So what you are saying is your front end manager lost his cool on the sales floor at you and it was hard to handle. They must train their front end managers to be royal jerks. I have seen the Snohomish front end manager treat his crew with Great disrespect. Now I wonder if the all dress like gangster want a be?
