My wife and I were kicked out of the Sellwood “Friendliest store in town” because I was seen by an employee to put supplies back in my wifes’ wheel chair bag. She has medical conditions where she needs a bag and a wheelchair. This employee thought I was stealing, so we were expelled. That isn’t even what bothers me. The WAY it was done does. A 20-something ‘manager’ punk comes running after us DEMANDING an explanation?? OUTSIDE the store? I worked in retail–your employees are not allowed to do that. My wife was terrified. We are now in the process of filing a lawsuit. I hope it was worth it.
Kerry Wolfe says
Good for you, Mr. Cerenetti ! I hope you are successful. I was very disappointed to find that New Seasons in Tualatin has a “Black Lives Matter ” sign in front of the store. BLM is a Marxist front group bent on making our country a Communist one , by force and not by right. I wrote a letter to corporate and have emailed them, but to no affect. I like the unique and local items they sell , but will not shop there while they openly support such groups.
Jim SMith says
I too am VERY angry that New Seasons has BLM PROPAGANDA at their stores. I hope you and many others will join me in BOYCOTTING them (as I have not been giving New Seasons my business since last summer). It is sad that all the BLM’ers out there can’t stay “WOKE” to some facts about recent news stories that they just don’t care about. And I’m very sorry that New Seasons corporate is full of these insecure and brain-washed morons. You and I must not give them our money as long as they continue to display propaganda of a movement that twist facts and encourage action based off of narrative and emotion.

I’m curious why I have to shop another store, miles away from my neighborhood New Seasons Market just to purchase one item is has been overpriced. Now I’m shopping more at Fred Meyer because of this one item, Wild Harvest 100% Tart Cherry Juice 32oz at $6.99. On the same shelf, surrounded by Wild Harvest 32oz 100% Pomegranate Juice at $3.99 and 32oz 100% Cranberry Juice at $3.99.
Fred Meyer charges the same price for the exact same items: $3.99 or less.
I’m hoping you’ll see how this erodes trust in New Seasons Market pricing. Loyal customers shouldn’t feel like they’re being Ripped Off.

I have shopped at New Seasons for years! It has been focused on the “customer first” and always carried the products “we” wanted. It’s motto has been that they are the “friendliest” store in town. They lived up to their reputation: being local, healthy, friendly, fair-trade, ethical, organic, but no longer.
Recently, in the past 2 yrs, it has become a “corporate fiasco” through the misdirection of 2 of the Board members & their attempt to appease the Endeavor Capital funds management AND specifically M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, which has invested $1 million in New Seasons and demands a higher return on this investment.
Thus we see & experience sky-rocketing prices in all the stores, less friendly staff, an obvious conversion to the “Whole Foods-type” store model of unethical, outright dishonest declarations that sound right but are not lived-up to; bearing no resemblance of previous assertions of their founding vision. This is due to ridiculous & predictable practices of “profit over people” displayed by two of the New Seasons Board member who tout the “slash & burn if not profitable” corporate stance they brought with them for their lord’s & master’s.
These 2 Board members have even hired the Trump Hotel’s “union avoidance consultant” and, according to employees, it intimidated employees who favored having a union in order to protect their rights & the “B” corp status/foundation that we love & want to preserve AND that sets New Seasons apart & out in front of other stores. Again, we see monetary purposes at odds & even undermining the good of people & New Seasons in order to profit.
The problem with all this is they tried “unsuccessfully” to establish New Seasons in California. This dismal failure on their part (the two Board members specifically) is just another demonstration of what is wrong with their direction and their intention. They hired a “corporate” head who couldn’t get it done because they are obviously not aware there is a complete & necessary difference between a Whole Foods & New Seasons model.
This is sad, disappointing and for some reason that I cannot figure out, continuing to be the modus operandi of the current Board (far from) the original purpose of its founders.
New Seasons, known as a company which has professed the importance for agricultural workers to be paid appropriately or for coffee growers in other countries to be treated fairly for their labor. They have supported fair trade brands, advocated for an increase in our state’s minimum wage, supported Non-GMO foods & friendliness in all their stores seems to have gotten in bed with the devil incarnate. This truly is going in the opposite direction from their roots… making the rot that much worse.

Hoping this gets to the CEO’s eyes;
Just moved to the Bay Area from Portland, and just last night was THRILLED to see a New Seasons in Sunnyvale, Ca.
We pulled in for some goodies, and as we were leaving I commented “What an odd location for a New Seasons!”
Prominent street, wealthy area “check” but also totally hidden and offset in a Petsmart parking lot.
If you didn’t know what it was, it does not scream “awesome grocery store.”
Now today, I read it will be closing by the end of this month?!!!!
What?? It’s a brand new market!
Sad, sad, sad. Just move the store to a proper location!
Melissa Martin says
Well, this is sort of funny and sort of not in a odd way.
I went on the NS website under “contact” to send a detailed message of great compliment to the staff at the Orenco market for all their help and freindliness over the many years. I used up over 950 words to do so, and when I pushed, “next,” I was told my time had timed out and my message was canceled. There was no way to retrieve it. I wasn’t going to spend another 20 minutes writing up the message. It would be very helpful if the site itself mentioned that you are under a time limit and how much time to you have to respond. I would have known, then, to copy and paste. As it is, I’m instead writing a complaint and will get back to the compliment some other time. They really deserve it!

Went to a store not a corporate office.

I’m trying to reach your corporate offices and BOTH numbers go to a fax machine. What’s the deal?
Tammy Robinson says
Thanks for letting us know the site was out of date. We have updated the contact information.

At the Mountain Park store this morning I waited for ten minutes for service at the meat counter, ignored by all behind the counter. We spend considerable dollars at that store, but I will not patronize it any longer. There are many options, including the new Whole Foods store in Lake Oswego. (I will also be vigorously lobbying friends and family to boycott New Seasons and spend your food dollar at a store that cares. These people know nothing about customer service.

It sounds like Mike Swanson has never had to wait for anything in his life. He probably also stood 3 feet behind everyone else just fuming about being ignored instead of stepping forward and simply asking to be helped. Also “vigorously lobbying friends and family to boycott New Seasons” is the whitest thing I’ve ever heard someone say in a review.
Careful where you sit Mikey, that silver spoon is bound to get in the way.
