Leonard Shoen and his wife Ana Mary Carty had the idea for U-Haul when they were unable to move their belongings to Portland, Oregon from Los Angeles. The couple decided to start a business that would allow for people to rent moving vehicles that could be picked up in one location and dropped off in another.
Today the Shoen continues to control 40% of the company through the holding company AMERCO.

September 15, 2021 and September 16, 2021 Dear: Edward J. Shoen – CEO, Mr. Jason A. Berg – CFO , Mr. John C. Taylor – COO and Mr. Sebastien Reyes, I tried again to fax the letter to U-Haul Moving and Storage of Pasadena James Decker and Chad Farron. I was unable to do for the second time, the second day. the fax numbers given to me to your office in AZ was 602-277-5812. The fax number to Chad Farron was 951-929-4195/. Please respond by MAIL to the address on the bill. This is regarding refusal of full payment to U-Haul Pasadena Moving and Storage, for storage unit 181. I am requesting that the additional late fees accrued in August and September be lowered, removed, adjusted to accommodate refusal of full payment plus late charges August 2021 and September 2021.
