We had a very bad experience at the Chicago (Vino? Upstairs restaurant) with a server named Derek(sp?). Tall, male, graying short beard, stud earring. He came across immediately as “negging” my friend and I (sarcastic, uninterested, like a put-down). We tried to brush it off as “he’s just trying to be playful”. We did not like it, but we tried to excuse his behavior and let it slide.
Then- he started complaining to us.
First- He complained about “way too many wines” (referring to the 100 wines by the glass). He said there’s “no way he’s gonna learn them”.
Second- he complained that “they” (management) just changed the table numbers/layout “right before shift” and “no one knows where the food goes”. (He apparently had entered the wrong table number and the runner brought out the food- but it wasn’t to the table he meant). We didn’t notice that the runner had to stop and ask him which table the food actually was going to, but he was upset about it and interrupted our conversation to complain what “management” had done.
Third- he asked if we were ready to order. My friend knew but I was still looking. He said “Look, I’m gonna give you some time to make up your mind. I’m busy. I got nine tables”. He literally said that. My friend tried to assure my again ‘that’s just his “thing” and ‘he’s just playing around’. At this point, neither one of us were laughing it off any longer.
Fourth- sometime during our meal he ‘checked our table’ and complained again about “being busy- didn’t have time to get us another wine” because “he didn’t have any help” (he was saying there weren’t enough bussers). I stopped my meal now to confront the complaining. I asked “Have you talked with your managers to get more help?!” He then SAT DOWN ON THE BENCH next to my friend and said “Ma’am, have you heard of COVID? ‘THEY’ don’t wanna work”. He then did a head gesture to a Latino runner that happened to be walking by. We were both shocked. He got up- I don’t know if he even noticed that we stopped eating and just stared at each other.
We both had it at that point. I wondered if it was just our table that he was acting like this to, but we weren’t. My friend said he was saying things like that to the table next to us and then I heard him complaining to a table with two girls (near us). He was talking about ‘he’s been there since 2013(?) and it’s been getting worse (after COVID).
We both said that the experience was honestly exhausting. I felt exhausted. It was sad and depressing, too. We both just wanted to leave- which we did. I couldn’t shake the things he said and all the complaining he did. We live in Chicago. I’m never going back to the restaurants.

I was minutes ago at Terra and and experienced the most horrific service from Devante.
He was extremely rude and made the dining experience very unpleasant. The other manager was not professional at all either.
I am really surprised at the the of help at your Dallas store.
I had 4 groups witness this and they can relay to the relevant person as to what had happened.
I have been in customer service, but would never treat anyone like the way I was treated.
