Uptown Cheapskate was founded by Scott and Chelsea Sloan in 2008. This brother and sister team learned a lot about resale from helping out at their parent’s franchise Kid to Kid. When Chelsea realized that she had some very upscale business clothing that she no longer wore, she decided to open her own store, and later, with some help from her brother, another family franchise, only this one aimed at adult clothing and accessories.

In November 2022, Uptown Cheapskate opened its 3rd Austin, Texas, location.

Uptown Cheapskate currently has more than 40 locations in 17 states and has headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. Uptown Cheapskate Logo

esterday I had dropped off items for selling. The items were some clothes, Nikes shoes and brand new clothing with tags, Levi jeans barely worn, a pair of doc martens worn only twice, and a few other items. I’d never had the experience of selling before. I have been into a few of the stores and noticed prices. Doc martens priced from 80-140$. Having worn my doc martens only twice, and them practically being brand new, for a 200$ pair of shoes, I thought I’d get at least 80$ considering the prices of identical ones in store.

We walked in yesterday with two small urban outfitters reusable bags. There was ‘drop off’ clothes everywhere. We had to maze our way through and the clerk speaking with us seemed pretty scattered. We had patience considering this was something we’d never done before. She told us to sign something and that we had to leave items there and she’d contact the number listed at the end of day or next day. Now, with the items I told above with Nike, doc martens, and Levi’s being new… we were contracted around 8:30pm that five items had been selected and were only getting 23$.. for five items of all brand new, and name brand.

This is really disappointing because not only was one item worn twice, and purchased for 200$ originally… but now we are being FORCED to take 23$ for the selected items, or nothing at all. Less than 5$ for a brand new pair of 200$ doc martens is absurd. And then the cashier blatantly ignored us when we questioned and wanted our doc martens back. Then refused. This is absolutely concerning, and has put me and my partner in a very livid state. If I would have been aware I’d be getting less than 5$ for a 200$ pair of brand new shoes I would have NEVER allowed my things to be dropped off there. I would have kept them for less than five dollars. It’s absolutely absurd. With this experience I am highly discouraged and disgusted.

I would like an opportunity to have a more fair price given, or my shoes back. It’s completely unfair, and was my property. We weren’t aware of a drop of policy having been told to just sign and leave our things. Then blatantly ignored the next day when expressing how unfair and obscene it all was. Again, I ask for a more fair price, or my shoes back, please.

This has all left a very bitter taste towards this establishment.

The store we had this unpleasant experience with is listed below.

I have been waiting on a response from corporate or anyone higher up in regards to an incident in the Huntersville store on April 11th, 2023 on Being falsely accused. Noone has called me and today is April 20th. I have not forgotten and employee or employees should have been reprimanded for their actions. Noone has followed up on my complaint.

On 12/23/21, I bought a Gift Card for my granddaughter valued at $100. On 8/12/23, I took her to the East Cobb location Marietta Ga. who said the card was not valid.
I spoke to Tony at your Corporate office who validated said card and stated the store had left off a number and that was source of the problem.
I have since called Katelynn, the store manager who said she notified the corporate office and is awaiting a response. Tony also said that he would follow up . I would like this issue resolved in a timely manner. I can be reached at 404 556-XXXX.

Hello, at the sugar house location I witnessed the manager, Anne go on to tell a story about how she dressed as a little girl, and her boyfriend a child molester for Halloween and how you can find the pictures on her Instagram and she was laughing about this insensitive matter. That’s disgusting and unprofessional and she shouldn’t be the face of a business .
