ZipRecruiter was founded by Ian Siegel, Will Redd, Joe Edmo, ds and Ward Poulos over a coffee table in 2010. The original plan was to help businesses find employees, but this has changed to include helping potential employees seek out new opportunities.
The company is an online and mobile job recruitment site which matches employers and job seekers. While the concept isn’t new, the platform has features other sites don’t, such as rewriting job listings to ensure companies reach the maximum number of applicants who might be interested, as well as a larger focus on the mobile app.
The company won’t release exact figures, but in 2016, it states that revenue was in excess of $140 million, an increase of 270% since 2013.
Online job services has become a huge market. People no longer comb through newspapers or company websites seeking jobs, they want to use their mobile phone or find a site which is tailored to job seekers. While Linkedin does post jobs, most people see it as more of a networking site, not necessarily where employers would go to look for employees.
ZipRecruiter does not charge job seekers but charges businesses $249 to post listings. The company is backed mostly by Institutional Venture Partners, which has invested $63 million.
In June 2018, the company moved their main office to a larger building due to a tremendous increase in business.
In January 2022, the company was awarded Easiest Site to Use and Most Likely to be Recommended by the G2 platform.
Company headquarters are still located in what is now called the Silicon Beach city of Santa Monica, California.

Good morning,
I am so dissatisfied with my experience with Zip Recruiter. A few months ago, I received a card in the mail that had a free trial. The trial was only for 3 days…I received it on a Thursday. So, I contacted Zip Recruiter and spoke with Becky Weiser. During my first initial conversation she was very nice and helpful getting me set up. Once I was all set, I noticed that I was not doing a “free trial” to fully utilize the services Zip Recruiter had to offer but only to “view” the site.
I expressed my concerns to Becky and in a great customer orientated fashion, she offered to give us 20 free candidates to view. This was late Thursday and I decided to start fresh on that next day (Friday).
On Friday, I logged in and browsed but nothing worth utilizing my 20 free views. For the next couple days, I noticed a couple candidates and saved them until the hiring manager was back in the office. On Wednesday, I logged in to utilize my free views and noticed that they were no longer there.
I emailed Becky and she stated there was nothing she could do. I asked to speak with a supervisor and again I was told there was nothing that can be done. In fact, the supervisor (Robert Rios) said I would have to pay for the service. After going back and forth with these two, I was so frustrated I just gave up.
I just can’t believe that you offer your customers something and then say to them “there is nothing we can do”.

You seem to have no customer service. The phone number is disconnected and no one answers the help center email. I am just referred back to the useless self help. Please call me I can’t change my old resume.
