Black Angus Steakhouse as founded in 1964 by Stuart Anderson. When Anderson first opened his restaurant, he offered a steak, soup or salad, along with a baked potato for $2.99. Customers lined up outside. Anderson used his name in his restaurant and was a frequent visitor. The price didn’t include dessert or drinks, which is where Anderson says he made most of his money. He continued to run the company until 1987, after five consecutive years of his restaurants being named the top steakhouse chain in the nation that Anderson retired. Anderson even wrote a book after he retired, called “Corporate Cowboy,” the story of how he built a restaurant empire that became a national company with 10,000 employees and annual revenue of $260 million. Anderson passed away in 2016.
The restaurant chain was sold several times over the years and was owned by American Restaurant Group from 1990 until 2004. At its peak, the chain had 103 restaurants in 13 states.
The American Restaurant Group filed for bankruptcy first in 2004, then again in 2009. The restaurant chain was then sold to Versa Capital Management in March of 2009.
As of April of 2017, there were 45 locations, with 31 of them being in California.
In December 2022, the company announced that it would offer direct-to-consumers premium steaks via an online marketplace.
Company headquarters are now located in Sherman Oaks, California.

I haven’t been to a Black Angus in years we don’t have one in my town of Tempe AZ. We came to the one in Mesa on Superstition on Hampton ave..we were so dissatisfied our meal came and the baked potato was so dried upon the outside no oil just shriveled up, and the broccoli was with no seasoning whatsoever just like from the boiled pot to the dish plain and dried up. My Ribeye was super flat and dry.. I can’t believe how bad the food was here. Then to top it off the guy came and vacuumed at my table and around all the tables while everyone was eating … I will never come to a Black Angus ever again.. Sincerely Kathleen Dodge

We have been going to Black Angus for years and have always loved it. Our local one in Valencia, CA we are sad to say has closed down. On 8/4/2021 (my birthday) we went to Black Angus in Northridge, CA with another couple. We ordered the wagon wheel appetizer. Were shocked at how it was served, like on a small tray that belongs in a microwave oven!! Used to be served in a circle (WAGON WHEEL!!) with 3 half pototo skins. This time is was only two, with 4 measly thinly slice wilted celery sticks. The bread which used to be hot and delicious was cold and hard. Then our steak dinners came. Waiter never asked us to cut into in to be sure they were cooked correctly. Our was not – it was dry and even hard to cut. Never saw waiter again except with our bill. So disappointed. Doubt we will be back there. Know virus caused problems all over but servers that can;t serve should not be hired. Horrible birthday. Thank you very much.

After posting my complaint someone from guest relations called ! Retold what happened and she said some regional manager would call ? Today the manager from the restaurant where the incident happened called – why ? To make it up to me n to hear it all again ! I don’ mean to make excuses fr the waitor he said ? But he did such as ” we all have bad days ‘? Yea it was my bday n i had a bad day .thanks to his rudeness and how this rarely happens that most leave happy ? Well ok i said but that’s no consolation when you’re the 1 being scolded by waitor and can’t enjoyn our meal! ! In reality they don’t want to hear our complaimt or make it better! I said Sir the 1 thing we all know is that the customer is always right and he should try to keep customer happy ? NO COMMENT When he asked how can i make it up to u ? I said well my son paid for the meal !we didn’t finish it n he works har for his $? He asked How old is your son ? Why does that matter ? ? the meal was $75 and he said i can only offer you a gift card ? Cash is more complicated ? I said ok fine just to end it but when i said $75 ? He’s only authirized. Fr $50? Are u kidding me ? Why call a customer to find a resolution if you can’t even offer a full refund ? ? Now he has to talk to someome else to see if they authorize n call me AGAIN? I expected a full refund for the ruined meal and Perhaps the gift card as a gesture an apology fr us to even consider going bk there ? A big restaurant chain ? Bargaining ? Counting dollars ? Why should i be out $75 to get scolded by a waitor on my bday leave wtout eating cake n now a card to go bk and eat there again? I gave my info to manager ! I’m not answering anymore or retelling story.again !if to a big restaurant chain $75 is such a Big Deal ? Imagine to someone who works fr minimum wage n paid it fr his mom to have a nice bday and instead she gets her bday dinner Ruined ? Shameful

I’m a regular diner at Black Angus Northridge for over 15 years. The service has always been the best! Unfortunately the service I received this past Tuesday, 9/10 was horrible. I can honestly say it’s the worse service I’ve ever received. This was a call in order for pick up. Jasmine is rude, ungrateful and she could careless if I’ve been coming over 15 years. Spoke to the manager Gabriel. I expected him to act as a manager, be understanding but no. He literally took jasmine’s side. He had the audacity to tell me that jasmine mixing the cold and hot food I one bag is right! Really! What kind of brain does he have. He should know to never mix food in one bag for hot and cold. Jasmine and Gabriel don’t have the etiquette and not know how to treat a loyal, paying customer. They don’t deserve to be working for black angus!

I received a 30% Off Coupon and asked my sister and her husband to join us for dinner. Your San Bernardino, CA (Store 1050) had been closed for over a year due to a flood inside the restaurant. We were so excited that this location was open again. What a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!! We went Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019. Other than a couple birthday celebrations, the restaurant was EMPTY. Our servers name was Jessica. She took our drinks order, and we ordered from the menu. My husband ordered an end cut of prime rib, au gratin potatoes, and asked that the broccoli be cooked well. I ordered a full rack of baby back ribs, your delicious macaroni & cheese, and a salad. My sister, and her husband shared a combination dinner of 1/2 rack of baby back ribs, chicken, macaroni & cheese and salad Sometime much later, Jessica finally brought our drinks and finally our salads and your delicious bread. From that time on we did not see her again. We did not know if she was working in another area or had gone on a break. A bus boy brought us our dinner. Jessica never came back to our table to ask “if everything was satisfactory”. Other servers were walking around and we told them we had not seen our server and my husbands broccoli was still under cooked; the broccoli was practically raw (he could not even cut through the stems). His au gratin potatoes were not on the plate with his prime rib. The bus boy took my husbands broccoli and said he would have the kitchen cook it longer. My sister’s chicken was chard black on the backside, and so dried out she could not even cut it. We asked if we could see the manager who was (Oscar Ortiz). My sister showed the Mr. Ortiz the chicken, he replied “it should not have been served this way, do you mind if I take it back to the kitchen so the chef can see it”.We told the manager that my husbands broccoli was under cooked and they had taken it back to the kitchen some time ago, and he never got his au gratin potatoes. He was practically done with his prime rib by now. He also kept asking for the creamy horse radish. No one asked if we would like another loaf of bread or could they refresh our drinks. Finally, they brought out my sister’s chicken (it was cooked perfectly; why did they not make it that way the first time)? The bus boy said my husbands broccoli was coming out soon. We were now almost finished with dinner, Jessica our server now appears and asks my sister and her husband would you like another glass of wine. I asked her to refresh our drinks. My sister and her husband were finally served a glass of wine by the bus boy, and my sister told him to take it back to the bar, we were finished with our meal. THIS WAS THE WORST SERVICE WE HAVE EVER HAD IN A RESTAURANT. We have eaten at the Buena Park, and Rancho Cucamonga establishments and the food and service were excellent. As far as I am concerned they can close the San Bernardino Restaurant for good!

April 15 was our wedding anniversary for 35 years. We decided to go to Black Angus on Bell Road by Arrowhead Mall. When we arrived they sat us by the kitchen door where we could hear all the kitchen talk and when they came out they were all chewing. Our waitress introduced her herself as Maria. She seemed pleasant while asking what our drinks choices were but did not offer a cocktail or appetizer. We needed a few minutes to look over the menu. I did ask about a free lobster tail deal which I saw advertised on TV. Maria said that she didn’t know anything about any advertising. She also said Black Angus doesn’t advertise on TV or any other form, that it had to be another restaurant. She had me convinced. So we placed our order which was two 8 oz. filet migon. One baked potato with sour cream and chives and salad with honey mustard. The other filet was ordered with French fries and onion rings. The salad came out pretty fast and more bread. By the time dinner came out we had pushed our empty salad dishes to the edge of the table. The food was served. The baked potato had sour cream and butter on it, I ordered the potato with sour cream and chives. She tried to correct the potato, mission was complete after asking two more times. Meanwhile while we were eating the manager went by several times without saying a word to us. The meal was just okay. We asked the busboy for a to go box, at that time he took our plates. Maria came by and I asked about dessert and she rattled them off. We decided we had enough of Black Angus and it was time to go. I mentally went over our meal on the way home and I thought it was about a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10, not one to write down. When we got home and got the mail there was an ad for Black Angus in the mail about the free lobster tail with an order of a steak over 19.95. I guess I wasn’t losing my mind and I had the right restaurant. I would now rate our experience a four out of 10. So sad for our 35th anniversary and I would not recommend for a special occasion.

It was our wedding anniversary of 35 years on April 7th and of course we always celebrate at Black Angus in California, but this time we were in Pullayup Washington to visit family and we went to your location on Meridian St.. I must say the serving staff was excellent, but the two Managers were HORRIBLE! They passed our table and not once did they even come by to say hello or how was our meal! Absolutely nothing and I smiled as they walked by and they didn’t even acknowledge us! We frequent Black Angus at least 2 to 3 times a month, but again in Monrovia California, and I must say the service and welcome is 100 times better! We will NEVER visit this location again and I will advise our family to not visit that location. Very Rude and bad for business!
Unhappy Customer!!

On 3/9/2019, our party of four had dinner at the Bakersfield Black Angus Restaurant #1087. Our waitress was 1045 Lizette. The restaurant was filled to capacity and I expected the service would be slow. Lizette came to our table in a prompt manner and cheerfully took our drink orders and later our dinner orders. I would like to commend our waitress for her pleasant demeanor throughout our meal, as she had a friendly joking manner about her. The food was brought to our table in a prompt manner as well. The quality of the food was also superb and tasty. Again, I would like to commend you for a very pleasant dining experience!

Hello. Do you have an anticipated re-open date for the San Bernardino store? I am planning an event and need to know if the location will be an option.
Thank you.

This has been several times I have been trying to get some response. The manager said that Black Angus said it has another company who supposed who send this other company for advertising. I think it stinks and Black Angus should fire you.
I am sending the attachment which was my bill for a free dessert. Our food was good, but your people who are trying to help Black Angus customers you stink. We also miss the Chicken wings and I would pay more if you brought it back to the menu. My information is below. Your other company to advertise us for BlackAngusListens.SMG.com Microsoft wouldn’t take this previous to your hearing and not next dessert. We couldn’t even take my e mail.

My wife and I paid a visit to your Bell Road location to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Having told the staff of the occasion and requesting a quiet table we were seated directly in front of the kitchen doors after passing over a dozen empty tables which were located more to our wishes. We found ourselves only able to eat about half of the steaks because of toughness and fat. After spending almost $100.00 on mildly acceptable meal you can rest assured that my wife and I will spread our advertising to all our friends and acquaintances.
