Roche Brothers Market was founded by brothers Pat and Bud Roche in 1952 when Bud saw a Singer Sewing Machine store going out of business. Both brothers put $25 in the bank and called their new company The Roche Brothers. Their family took out a mortgage on their home to get this pair started and three months later, they opened their store.
The company began selling meat and produce but soon expanded to include other groceries by 1957. A second location in Needham, Massachusetts, was opened in 1959 and a third, this time in West Roxbury, in 1957. The company is still owned and operated by the second generation of Roches, Rick & Ed.
Today, the company has 20 locations in and around the greater Boston area. In 1980, the company opened Sudbury Farms, a bulk food store which also offers a fish market, deli, and organic foods. There are three Sudbury Farm locations. There are plans for expansion in 2018, with the expected opening of 3 new locations with a new name Brothers Marketplace. All 3 locations are expected to open in 2018 in Waltham, East Cambridge, and Weston.
In February 2022, the company announced a recall of Batch Ice Cream due to possible listeria contamination.
Roche Brothers Markets had an estimated annual revenue in 2016 of $389 million. They employ 4,600 persons full time and have headquarters in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts.

Just a couple of hours ago I walked by the back entrance of Waltham’s closed-down Brothers Market. The door was open, so I went in to see if that store was reopening. I came upon a surly forty-ish guy who put someone on hold on his phone. “Excuse me,” he said into the phone, “a Vagrant just came in.”
I said, “Don’t call me a vagrant. I’m trying to find out if this store will be reopening soon.” “No, it wont. And this is private property, so you are a vagrant.” I can assure you I’m not, nor do I have the appearance of a vagrant. I want to complain about this jerk’s unwarranted curtness and insulting manner. If he is not a Roche employee, I would appreciate the name and contact info of the corp. that leases that property.

The guy that fills Polar Bear soda in Acton is rude to customers. Always grumpy and has rude comments.

I love the store and now the shoppers that get my order ready to be delivered by the greatest folks . But my problem is the paper bags without handles. It is very difficult to lift the bags from the wagon that the delivery person puts into for me and watching the delivery person struggle with the bags that no longer have handles.
Any chance this might be addressed?
