ExxonMobil History

John D. Rockefeller founded the Standard Oil Company in 1870.

In 1911, the Supreme Court ruled that Standard Oil had to be split into 34 oil companies amid a public outcry that the government take action against the company for monopolizing the market.

Two of those companies were Jersey Standard (Standard Oil Company of New Jersey), which eventually became Exxon, and Socony (Standard Oil Company of New York), which eventually became Mobil.

Over the next few decades, Jersey Standard became the largest oil producer in the world. At the same time, Socony acquired companies and stakes in other companies. The company started to produce chemicals as well as produce and refine oil.

Meanwhile, Jersey Standard changed its name to Exxon and Socony changed its name to Mobil.

The two companies first worked together in a joint venture in Indonesia.

In 1998 Exxon and Mobil signed a $73.3 billion dollar agreement to merge and form a new company, Exxon Mobil Corporation.

ExxonMobil is the largest of the world’s supermajors and is responsible for 3% of the total worldwide oil output at 3.921 million barrels per day.

Today ExxonMobil is the third largest company in the world and is ranked #5 on the Forbes list of the World’s Most Valuable Brands . ExxonMobil has 76,900 employees and had $453.123 billion in revenue in 2012.

On 3/18/19 I was visiting my sister in Cupertino California, that evening I went to a EXXON gas station located on Bollinger Ave, Cupertino, I being from Hawaii our gas pump trigger handle operates different, I wasn’t able to get the pump to operate, I went to the counter window to ask for help, the Chinese guy sitting back of the counter, he was on his cell phone, he got off his cell phone and yelled to me ( what you want ) I asked him if he could tell me how to use the pump, he came out and told me to try again using my card, the card was accepted but the gas gun wouldn’t work, he than yelled again to me, telling me to try again, I did, still did not work, he yelled again to me saying out loud, where people around me could hear, he said maybe your card no good! maybe you no good! I told him my card is good and I am good, because I am a retired San Francisco Police Officer, a Captain position, I told him maybe his not good, he than went back into the office, a customer from the other pump came to show me how to use it, he told me he will tell his friends not to come to this gas station, that Chinese guy is NUTS, he told me, those China man in this area, thinks they own this city, please check on this issue this kind of people ( should Not work for EXXON gas company ) I’m telling people in Hawaii what happened to me, they all told me to complain to EXXON it is not fair for the company to suffer, having this kind of people working for them, I fully recommend you terminate this person, I am a Business person in Hawaii and have employees, advise, screen your helpers.
