Arthur Treacher’s Fish & Chips was founded in 1969 in Columbus, Ohio. The company operates a chain of fast food, seafood restaurants which feature the traditional English fish and “chips”, doused in a malt vinegar sauce. The name comes from the English butler character “Jeeves”, portrayed in Shirley Temple movies and in the movie Mary Poppins.
At the height of the company’s popularity, it had more than 800 locations. Today, there are approximately 8. The company operates as a subsidiary of TruFoods Systems, LLC. Arthur Treacher’s Fish & Chips has been sold several times and the rights to the trademark belong to Nathan’s Famous, inc.
The company has hopes for expansion soon, but there is no set date as to when this might happen.
