Alibris was founded in 1997 by Martin Manley in Emeryville, California. Alibris was founded as a part of a company that tried to establish itself online as an antique book seller, Interloc. Oakhill Capital Parters purchased the company in 2010.
Bookstores list their inventory on Alibris, which in turn offers them on their website, as well as business to business partners such as Barnes and Noble and Books A Million. The company offers a massive selection of out of print books, used books, rare books, even music and movies on DVD’s. Customers can both buy and sell books, with prices charged for selling books being based on the value of the item.
In 2013, the company had $100 million in revenue, as well as 120 full time employees. Alibris is also a charter member of Google eBooks service as of December of 2010. The company began its own blog, with book recommendations, in 2014.
