Xerox was founded in 1906 in Rochester, New York as The Haloid Photographic Company. The company originally manufactured photographic paper and equipment.
In 1946 James C. Wilson, who had taken over the company from his father, signed an agreement with Chester Carlson to develop his invention: a process for printing images using an electrically charged drum and dry powder.
The first xerographic printer, the Copyflo, was invented in 1955. Subsequently the process was scaled down to produce the 1824 microfilm printer, which was about the half the size and weight of the Copyflo.
Xerox came to prominence in 1959 with the introduction of the Xerox 914, a plain paper photocopier which is one of the most successful products of all time.
After the success of the Xerox 914 the company’s growth exploded and record profits. Xerox came out with new and better machines including the first digital photocopiers in the 1990’s.
Today Xerox is a diverse company, offering cloud computing, application development, managed print services, document and data management, and document outsourcing services. The company remains a leading provider of equipment including office printers, digital printing systems, and multi-function printers/copiers.
Xerox trades publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol XRX, is #131 on the Fortune 500, is a member of the S&P 500, has 141,400 employees, and had $21.35 billion in revenue in 2013.

Corporate office of Xerox Canada
My name is Robert Raynes and I once worked for your company here in Saint John New Brunswick, I was a member of the GDO department with Xerox.
I was with your company for over 5 years, and enjoyed each day I went to work, I was happy with my position and felt that this was one of the best call centers made available to those many job seekers, and felt that your management was good as well.
Indeed there were issues, like all call center we have issues and one of the issues that I felt needed some attention costed me my job with your company, an issue that needs to be addressed so that we can once again see fair employment in the work place.
I was fired for asking for a meeting with your head of the GDO department, I was given no notice or any reason I was just fired on the phone before heading to work, which was all because of conversions with GDO, which none were happening within that department, while other departments were doing conversions.
Each GDO contractors who was hired by your company, were all told that each and everyone of them would be converted in a year, allowing the contractor to be free from the agency, which was great, the agency was short terms and xerox would be long term if they choose.
In my five years there, I have seen hundreds of contractors quit within the first two months, and the reason for that is simple, they are meeting the other contractors who have been there for years some as long as six years, now remember these people were told that they would be converted in a year.
As much as I hate to say this, but your interviewers are miss-leading the many contractors, even today, telling them that the working for the agency would be short term not long term.
So I am now addressing this issue to your company with hopes that you will see now this effects your companies credibility.
THIS PART IN BLUE WAS A LETTER WRITTEN TWO AND HALF YEARS TO XEORX
The Saint John Help Center is one of the best centers I have had the opportunity to work in. I have done many research projects over the years on different call centers and I can say that this Center is superior, by far.
The management at Xerox treats their teams well and as you know, when employees feel they are respected they are more apt to give their all to the company. It gives me great joy to come to work and help our 100% customer service. Since I’ve been with Xerox, every day has been a learning experience. In saying that, I feel that many employees as well as myself, are assets to your great company.
In the past six months, I have written three letters including this one about a very important subject that has fallen on deaf ears for far too long.
The point I want to make is that you have many good people working at this center, some have been here 3 or more years, and they are still contract employees.
However, not knowing whether or not Xerox ever plans on converting these employees have led too many contractors leaving not because they want to they have to. They need benefits and therefore, they leave to go to another place of employment.
Many has asked management about conversion but they can not give us a clear answer to this question which is why I am now asking corporate office take in consideration the importance of this issue and the many people who are seeking for an answer to this question.
Since my time with Xerox, I have not missed any days due to sickness, I have won three breakfasts of champions, and I have kept myself involved with many activities within this organization.
In my opinion, people who have worked at Xerox two or more years have something important to offer to the future of Xerox and that is years of knowledge. We work every day with your customers, have imparted knowledge and have built up a rapport with them, consequently, the customers enjoy talking to the Saint John Help Center
Xerox should invest in their contracted employees as they have the knowledge and skills needed to maintain a high level of service and thus will promote growth and revenue for Xerox
I ask that you please consider this letter as an opportunity to see firsthand who we are and what we offer to the company. If conversion has ended or if it will continue to be offered to contractors’, please let us know. We deserve to have an answer to this question
We are losing too many good people because no one can say if or when Xerox will be offering the conversion, three years since the last conversions.
When a group people who are contractors are outside on their breaks, the main subject is the same each time, and that is group getting smaller and smaller because we are losing some good people because no one can say when or if conversions is going to be offered to us.
Enclosing, my main goal is to ask one question, a question that many people are asking, there are many people within the Saint John New Brunswick Canada help center who were here two or more years, and it’s only fair to know if conversions is still on the table.
These people who are contractors are your greatest assets and are worth the investment, they carry much knowledge about each of your account, and they are 100% XEROX.
END OF LETTER WRITTEN TWO AND HALF YEARS.
Thank you for taking the time in reading my letter.
This letter above was send to XEROX, two and half years ago, with hopes that you would read it and make changes within the conversion issue, instead, your interviewers continue to tell new hires the same line that was used on all of us when were were hired.
As I mention I was fired for bringing this up, what is it about this issue, that seems to make xerox crazy, we need to be fair to these people who were hired by your company, they were hired with the understanding that your company will hire them within a year, each and every contractor was told that, why would they fire someone like myself who was a good worker as well an asset to your company all because I wanted to ask about conversions, a lot of whys.
You have a Ethic Security, which they were also informed about this issue, and they will not do anything about it, as if this is not an ethic issue, so miss-leading people to a position and not delivering, does not fall on your ethic security, as well a manager can call the agency and have someone fired after serving five and and year, for no reason besides asking for a meeting again that is not an ethic issue as well. I wonder what falls under ethics with XEROX.
You have many good people working in the GDO department and most of them are considered to be long term contractors, each and everyone of them fear to even ask about conversion, knowing what happen to me could happen to them.
You have many great managers within your family, but you also have power hungry mangers, who care nothing about anyone and you gave them the power to fire anyone anytime, no matter how long they have been there, too much power.
Contractors are not xerox employee, and because of that, they fall under the agency as their employer, which can be very dangers for those long term contractors, all because they signed a contract which was created for short term workers, not long term workers, that being said, they are at risk losing their job anytime for any reason or no reason.
So why is Xerox not offering conversions to the GDO, while all other departments have conversions, why are do the interviewer continue to miss-lead new hires with the same line on conversions, why are the contract not change for more protection to long term employees with your call center, again a lot of whys.
Right now at your call center in New Brunswick, there are over 100 plus contractors working there, and each and some of them have been there for 6 years or longer, many of them can not leave their jobs because they need the job, spite they wait for that day to be converted.
There are great team of people, well knowledge about all your accounts and processes, each and everyone of these people are a important asset to your company, but instead investing in them, all you guys do is keep spending so much money out to agencies for new people who now has a very short life term with your call center, all because of conversions.
I find it hard to believe that Xerox would avoid this issues after so many years, an issue that is becoming very well known to anyone who works there and to those who don’t work there as well.
The Ethic Security was not able to help me all because I was a contractor, so there is a big difference between being a xerox employee and contractor.
Don t you think its time that Xerox be honest with the contractors, convert them as they were told or tell them the truth about conversions within the GDO department, so that they know where this issue stands.
And for those long term contractors, they need to be recognized by your ethic security as well, no matter what we are all equal, we all do the same the job.
A personal note, I enjoyed my five and half years that I have worked at Xerox, and was one of the few people in the world today could say that they loved their job, the only thing that make me feel so upset is how I was fired, and no matter what is said or done, the blame fall on my manager at the time, he took it upon himself and call my agency and told them to fire me, not considering my time working there, my commitment to the team.
I was well like by so many people, because I am a good person, and I took my job seriously and was well respected by all those who knew me, and for five and half years, everyday I went to work, never late, never taken a day off, and always had a smile on my face, till the day came I was fired by one simple phone call.
That manager, I don’t know how he could sleep at night for doing this to me, one of his workers, one of his team mates, anytime he needed me to work over time I done that, I was a team player.
You need to look into the power that some of your managers have, they need to change the process of that, it can not be that easy to fire someone who has been there so long or even someone who was there for a short time, that is a must.
Thank you
Robert Raynes

That is how they work, they hope by not getting a hold of you, that you will disappear, keep on them, myself I was fired for no reason because I wanted to talk to them about conversion, as I was a contactor through an agency, which when I was hired, I was told that I would be hired as one of their own in a year, which never happen to myself or hundreds of other people within this department called GDO, so when I wanted tor ask them about it, they fired me, and now I have been a contractor for 5 and half year.
Keep on them, they may be a billion dollar company, but the little people like us can make a difference, they need people like us, and if the people know what they are and how they work, they will lose at the end.
