WePay, Inc. was founded in 2008 by Bill Clerico and Rich Aberman. Aberman found he had difficulty collecting money from friends for his brother’s bachelor’s party, and after looking at the various online payment systems available, Aberman reached out to Clerico for help. WePay was later founded in California with monetary support from Max Levchin, a cofounder of PayPal, and angel investor Ron Conway.
