Kfir Gavrieli, his sister Dikla, and his brother Elram, founded Tieks by Gavrieli, better known as Tieks, in 2008.
Tieks are all leather ballet styled flat shoes that bend in half, so they fit in a pocket or purse. Dikla is credited with the idea after she became annoyed by stuffing flip flops into a bag to wear after a long day at work wearing high-heeled pumps.
Each pair of shoes comes with a drawstring pouch for storing the shoes so purses or pockets don’t become dirty. Tieks shoes are well known not only for being foldable but for having distinctive blue soles.
Despite having no prior experience with shoes or marketing, the brothers set out to Italy to speak with tannery shops, acquiring quality leather for their shoes.
Oprah is a big fan of Tieks and despite the hefty price tag (between $165 and $300), the demand for these flats has soared.
In 2016, the Gavrieli clan made Inc’s 30 Under 30 list.
Currently, these popular ballet flats are manufactured overseas and are only available on the company’s webpage, but that may change in the near future.
In July 2013, the company made the Forbes list of the Top 25 Creative Consumer and Retail Brands list.
In response to the coronavirus, Tieks began a campaign to provide face masks to frontline workers called SewTogether.
Tieks maintains a corporate office in Beverly Hills, California.
