The company operates one of the fastest growing Mexican food chains in the US. They have a partnership with the Army and Air Force Exchange, as well as Steak Escape and Good Times Burgers and Custard. The company has created their own niche in Mexican/American food, calling it West-Mex. This combination includes food items such as chicken taco salads, potato “Ole” dishes, and breakfast items.
In June 2021, the company announced that “the fried chicken war is over” as they open a new chain called Cluckin’ John’s.
Taco John’s currently has 425 franchises in 25 states, with 15 locations opening in the greater Indianapolis, Indiana, area in 2015 and 40 locations in New York and Tennessee in 2016.
In July 2023, Taco John’s was forced to give up its infamous Taco Tuesday trademark after Taco Bell sued the company saying that no one should be able to trademark such a common phrase.
