Jason’s Deli was founded in Beaumont, Texas, in 1976 by friends Joe Tortorice, Jr. and Rusty Coco. Both men grew up with fathers who owned neighborhood grocery stores. The pair decided to open their own deli and their original store on Gateway Street is still operational.
The company offers the usual American delicatessen favorites, such as sliced meats and sandwiches, however, unlike other deli’s, Jason’s also offers a salad bar and daily soup selection.
Jason’s Deli began their first franchise in 1988. The company now has 250 locations in 29 states. In 2011, the company had $500 million in revenue.
The company removed trans-fats from its foods in 2005 and in 2008, it set up a 5-year plan to remove high fructose corn syrup from their food items.
In June 2023, Restaurant Business reported that Jason’s Deli was the highest-grossing brand in the US.
