Fatburger was founded in 1947 by Lovey Yancey in South Los Angeles. Originally called Mr. Fatburger, Yancey changed the name in 1952 when her Mr. cutout for parts unknown. The company opened several more locations in California, but did not branch out to other states until the late 1990’s.
Today, Fatburger has more than 150 locations in the U.S. and 17 countries. The company currently has 150 franchises and plans to open 300 more in the next 5 years. In 2008, the company opened its first location inside a sports stadium in Arizona. The company also opened a franchise in Bejing, China, in 2009.
