Calvin Klein opened a coat shop in New York City in 1968, using $10,000 to purchase stock. He purchased a few dresses and the following year was featured on the cover of Vogue magazine.

By 1971, Klein had added sportswear, blazers, and women’s lingerie to the lineup. In 1973, Klein became the youngest person to win the Coty American Fashion Critics’ Award.

 By the mid-1970s, jeans with the Calvin Klein logo on the rear pocket became one of the hottest selling items on the fashion market.

The company began selling men’s and women’s underwear in the mid-1980s. While Klein had attempted and failed in the 1970s to sell a line a perfume, when it was reintroduced in the early 1990s, it became a popular best-seller. 

In 2002, Calvin Klein, Inc. was sold to Philip Van Husen, the world’s largest manufacturer of men’s dress shirts.

Kendall Jenner has been the long-time face for Calvin Klein, most recently advertising bathing suits.

 In June 2019, Calvin Kelin announced a new CEO Cheryl Abel-Hodges, who has worked for fashion icons such as Ralph Lauren and Liz Claireborn.

Calvin Klein fashion remains in style after more than 50 years, with Melania Trump wearing a pantsuit to welcome the president of Poland in June 2019.
