See’s Candies was founded in 1921 by Mary See, her son Charles and his wife Florence in Los Angeles, California. Mary See had developed her candy recipes while helping her husband run a hotel in Ontario. After her husband’s death, Mary and her son moved to Los Angeles and used her recipes to sell candy. Even throughout the Great Depression, there was a demand for See’s unique recipes. By the mid-1920’s, the company had more than 12 locations in California. The Bakersfield store was the first of its kind to have a white, all porcelain store.
In 1952, Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance spent a half day at the See’s Candies store on La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles, learning to dip chocolates and work the production line, in preparation for the “Job Switching” episode of I Love Lucy. The episode, which featured Lucy and Ethel getting jobs in a chocolate factory, became one of the most popular in the show’s history.
The family sold the business in 1972 to Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. for $25 million. Today, there are more than 200 stores in the US and few in Hong Kong, Japan, and Macau. The company has more than 1500 full-time employees and as many as 6,000 during peak holiday seasons, such as Christmas and Mother’s Day.
The majority of See’s Candies are sold in their own stores, but there is an online ordering service and, during the holidays, the company sells from kiosks in shopping malls or other types of shopping centers.

Store Redding Ca. Manager was rude and very short with me for asking about the number of carbs in your sugar free candy ,I got no direct answer, she was telling me a diabetic , that the total carbs didn’t count because type of sugar and told her total include everthing so she told me very quickly that the samples would have to be thrown away ,it wasn’t that didn’t understand it was her quick harsh tone .I went to pay and I told the clerk a very friendly man trying to calm the issue she me does not wait on me ,and she disappeared into the back
I worked in retail for 40 +years and listening was my key

I am ninety years old and have been a customer for a longgggg time. I am going to comment on the See’s suckers. For years they were a longer sucker, not any wider but long with cut off corners. They fit the roof of the mouth perfectly. Then, probably for speedier manufacture, you started making the square, smaller shape and they don’t fit the roof of my mouth. I would like to get an answer to this because it is uncomfortable to leave the sucker in your mouth because it hurts the roof of my mouth. I want to tell you a great use for the suckers in case you don’t already know it. They are great for keeping you awake when you are driving at night. It keeps you busy putting it in and out of you mouth as well as a sugar rush. It has probably saved my life.

Our family has been buying and enjoying Sees Candies for many decades. This year we have had a very bad experience with your customer service and will not be ordering candy from your company again.
[1] Customer service number rings endlessly, we are put on hold for half an hour; request a call back, a machine message calls us back and we are again transferred to an endless holding line listening to music!
[2] We placed two orders–one on 15 Dec., one on 16 December. One order is to be delivered today, two days late; the other order (15 Dec.) never shipped according to the UPS tracking number.
[3] Customer service reps are RUDE and unable to solve problems.
This has been an irritating and time-wasting experience.
[4] We paid online for our order the day we made the order, but Sees Candy has not honored it’s commitment to us to even SHIP our order or tell us when it will be shipped.
It is a waste of time to try to contact your customer service phone number!
We will not be ordering Sees Candy next year. This has been one of the worst online purchases we have ever made.
Very sad to see such a decline in what was a good company.

I live in Half Moon Bay; I would love to see See’s Candies keep the
store open year-round in Strawflower Village. The shopping center
has alot of year round customers due to our location on the coast.
It would be a great addition to the community and I would shop
there for candy!
Hope you do so!

So very disappointed that See’s candy has left Albuquerque once again!!!! I know it has been awhile, but since we do not have any good candy stores, See’s is very much missed. I think the location they moved into in Coronado Center was just horrible….the far NE corner of the mall, just horrible!!! Please let me know if you have plans to open another store…Hopefully nosy just for the holidays.. (I should mention we do have one good local candy store Buffets Candy, but See’s would be just great if you return. Thank you, Mary Lovato

Excuse me, but after having a favorite piece my ENTIRE LIFE, you decide to add a disgusting, granular maple sugar flavor to the CARAMEL? Are you kidding me? I wasn’t even told “they have changed this piece.” I bought 6 pieces for my private “guilty pleasures stash” and almost threw up when I tasted them. GROSS! There are few CHEWY options for nuts and chews lovers, as it is. Don’t mess with the California brittle, please. I am so upset, as I never see them do anything about the disgusting lemon creams or the Scotch Mallows. The nut-to-caramel ratio was perfect on those bite-sized caramels. I can’t believe this Atrocity! Ok, I guess I buy Fran’s Gold Bites from Seattle.

I take the time to reach out to Sees Corporate Offices to report A business practice that I have never experienced in all the 40 plus years I have been a Sees Candy Customer.
The Employee I am speaking is named Acash and works in the South San Francisco Factory Facility on El Camino and Orange.
It was obvious the Employee was new and inexperienced but he seemed to do thins the way he felt was correct.
After he hand packed 2 – 1/2 pound boxes for me and then I got 2 small bags that were about 1/3 pound each.
When I asked him for certain pieces he just threw them in a bag with no paper cups around the candy. I called this out to him but I found out when I got home that he did not o as I asked him to do. Please put them in paper cups before you put the candy in the bag.
The worst part is when he took 6 Big Pieces of Chocolate Fudge and just putt hem in a small bag with out paper cups around the Fudge.
When I arrived home and presented them to my husband the 2 small bags of candy had all stuck together and lost it integrity.
What a Shame. Did the Employee get trained properly? I think not!
I have always made this Sees Candy Store my one of choice! Not ay more.
Extremely disappointed to s the very least!

I’ve been buying See’s candy since 1981, giving it as gifts and stocking my home, always having a box at hand. Since my husband is a Type I diabetic, we now only buy the Sugar Free Dark Chocolate Cover Almonds. It allows us to feel indulgent and maintain his carbohydrate count.
On Tuesday September 6th my husband and myself were flying through Denver Int’l airport to Washington DC. While in the airport we spotted a See’s Candy Kiosk. We immediately bought two boxes of the Sugar Free Dark Chocolate Covered Almonds. We signed the credit card slip and went to dinner. While at dinner I looked at the receipt and the total for two boxes was 64.00 plus tax. I was horrified at the cost! This was almost a 100% mark up! Online and in the stores I pay $17 a box. We returned the candy to the kiosk and received a refund on our credit card. What is your pricing policy for candy not sold online or through a store? Again, an almost 100% markup is absurd and greedy. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Lisa A Hill
