King Taco was founded in 1974 by Raul Martinez. He began the business by selling tacos out of an old ice cream truck that he had renovated. The business was so successful that within 6 months, Martinez opened his first restaurant in Cypress Park, California. A second location followed the next year on East 3rd Street in East Los Angeles.

From this single restaurant, Applebee’s has grown to at least 2,019 locations in the U.S. and 15 countries around the world. The company focuses on a casual dining experience and serves American cuisine such as chicken, beef, hamburgers, pasta, shrimp, and ribs. Most locations offer a full bar and take-out services.

Applebee’s had 28,000 employees and had $ 4.5 billion in revenue in 2014. IHOP Corporation purchased Applebee’s in 2007, making this restaurant chain a part of the Dine Brand Corporation. The company recently moved its headquarters from Illinois to Kansas City, Missouri, in 2014.

In early 2022, a manager received an email he believed came from the corporate office which stated that with rising gas prices, more hourly employees would need to work longer hours and that Applebee’s could pay them less.

McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants Corporate Office

McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants was founded in 1970 when Bill McCormick purchased Jake’s Famous Crawfish, a 100-year-old restaurant in Portland, Oregon. He hired Douglas Schmick as the manager.

McCormick & Schmick formed Traditional Concepts in 1974. The first McCormick & Schmick’s restaurant opened in 1979 in downtown Portland.

The company went public in 2004, trading on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol MSSR. By 2009 the chain had almost 100 restaurants and catering locations in the U.S. and Canada.

In 2011 the company’s biggest shareholder, Tilman J. Fertitta, made a bid to take the company private. In 2012 he sold McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants to Landry’s Restaurants, which is the owner of several national chain restaurants including Bubba Gump Shrimp and The Rainforest Cafe.

Chili’s Grill & Bar Corporate Office

In 1967, Larry Lavine attended his first chili cookoff that was sponsored by his father in law. Lavine was so taken with the food and the fun atmosphere, he began thinking about opening a restaurant that would have a similar feeling.

Chili’s Grill & Bar’s first location opened in 1975 in Dallas, Texas. The building was formerly a postal office, which Lavine converted. The building had an old-time Western theme that proved to be popular. Lavine’s concept was an informal atmosphere with an extensive hamburger menu.

While the restaurant was still growing, the only beer that they could serve was Schlitz. Schlitz was the only company who offered Lavine a line of credit! Today, the company also serves margaritas. In fact, the company claims that they sell 13 Olympic sized swimming pools worth of their infamous margaritas every year.

By the early 1980’s there were 28 Chili’s locations with Southwest decor in the Texas region. If you look carefully around the dining room you should find one picture that is hung upside down. This tradition appears to have started with the first location as a sign of good luck.
