Pet Valu was founded in Markham, Ontario, Canada in 1976. The company has since expanded to include nearly 70 stores, mainly in the North-Eastern part of the U.S. Pet Valu also has franchises available in both countries. The company is the leading wholesale distributor of pet food and pet supplies in Canada.
Pet Valu offers a wide variety of pet supplies and food, including cat food, dog food, bird food, and small animal food, treats, litter, litter boxes, collars, leashes, crates, travel boxes, pet clothing, pet care items such as nail clippers and grooming brushes, small animal habitats and enclosures, fish aquariums, and bird cages.
Pet Valu was acquired by private equity firm Roark Capital in 2009 for $143.7 million. The company has more than 500 franchised and corporate-owned stores in the US and Canada.
The company offers advice on pet care, both at their retail locations and online, as well as offering in-store adoption services from local shelters to help place homeless dogs and cats in permanent homes.
Pet Supermarket and Pet Valu merged in late 2016, creating the third-largest pet retailer in North America.
Founder and CEO of the company, Geoffrey Holt, donated $100,000 worth of pet products to families after the 2018 British Columbia wildfires.
The company also operates a pet rescue called Pet Valu Animal Rescue Express. In August 2020, the company rescued 43 pets from one location in Canada.
In early November 2020, Pet Valu announced that they were closing all 358 locations in the US permanently.

For years, I have taken advantage of your buy-10, get-one-bag-free program. When my dog died, there were still five bags of food ‘banked’ in my account. Wouldn’t it be a great idea if people could donate those ‘banked’ bags to a charitable/dog-rescue/SPCA organization, rather than just have them ‘disappear’?? It would be another way that Pet Valu could give back to the community.
Thanks!
Janet

I have a couple of dozen dog wash coupons and I would like to donate them to an all breed rescue who’s having a contest to raise money. Are these transferable and will all of your stores accept them? They have no expiration date on them and are all of equal value so I would assume I can do this. Please let me know.
Thanks

For the past year I have been bringing my dog to our local Petvalu store in Oak Ridge, NJ. The people who work there have been so kind and helpful to where we always have nice conversations each time I’m in purchasing dog food, treats or things I need.
For about a year now I have been showing my Vizsla in AKC conformation events. He has been doing amazing. His name is GCH CH Starcastle’s Butter Rum, “Nash” who is now a grand champion. He is 1yr 9mo and made his way into the Vizsla registry categorized under high honors in just under a year and has multiple Best of Breed wins and multiple group placing. Always before a show, I bring my dog Nash over to our local Petvalue store where he gets a nice wash in the clean facilities provided which usually leads to him getting spoiled.
I have spoken with a manager at the store about seeing if there is anyway Petvalue would be interested in backing my dog in future AKC conformation events, but I don’t think they know who to contact or if it’s even possible which is basically the purpose for this letter. I’m trying to see if there is anyway to get a backing or know someone who may be interested.
A little about my self, I am a 100% disabled Marine Corps combat veteran with two combat tours to Iraq and one to Africa. I served for 4 years and was honorably discharged in 2006. I have a wife and three children where we live in Northern NJ. Since I do not work, one of the hobbies I’ve taken up is dog shows. Since I’m a regular customer of your store, I figured I would send an email and try to see if there is any possibility or interest in backing my dog for AKC conformation events.
If by any chance you are interested, know anyone of interest or would like some information on my dog, please feel free to contact me. I would greatly appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Ryan Masterson

Last Thursday I purchased a large bag of grain free large breed puppy food from your Innisfil Beach Road store but before I paid I asked the clerk if I could switch my 7 month old pup from the Ocean recipe to this new formula immediately without any problems and her response was as long as I didn’t switch brands Iand stayed with the performatrin formula I would have no problems.
Yesterday was the first day that I fed him the new formula and this morning I woke up to 3 piles of poop on the dining room floor.
Needless to say I am totally disgusted with petvalu

Found a 7 week old kitten on the road in front of Pet Valu Store in Lititz PA.
I took the kitten into the store hoping they could help since they offer adoption of cats and kittens.. Manager refused to help and told me to leave the store because she said the kitten had fleas. These people make money off of selling pet items and pets but are so cold not to help an abandoned kitten found in front of their store…….. yet there website has a whole page about giving back.

So sorry that happened poor kitty – if they couldn’t help should have made suggestions bad store policy

Working at petvalu has been a tremendous experience. I am currently at the Pasadena, Maryland store. The current manager as of 5/29/19 is Ryan Schiller. He is an amazing manager and he puts in just as much work as myself and my fellow associates. Our goal is to drop everything when we come into the store and have an amazing time with our customers, as well as hitting our goal for the day. If we can’t make the goal, we just try even harder the next day. I absolutely love it here and I am amazed with our new manager. If you’re ever looking for not just a shopping trip, but a conversation and maybe a friend, come on in! Pets are always welcome and we encourage you to ask all the questions you have! Our goal is to help you and your pet friend stay happy and healthy.

Purchased a Betta fish at the Ashtabula, OH PetValu store. I asked how often they fed the fish, the answer disturbed me. The fish are fed every other day and only given 2 pellets (these pellets can barely be seen with the human eye because they are so small). When I researched extensively on how to feed these fish, at the very minimum they should be given 3 to 10 pellets twice a day or as much as they will eat in 2 min. This feeding schedule adhered to by the PetValu store seems abusive as this is a starvation diet for these fish. Perhaps the criteria for feeding Betta fish should be reviewed by the Store.
Karen says
You should do more research about betta fish. They should never be given more than 3 pellets a day and should fast for at least one day a week. Their bellies should never look round. Also, if you’re so concerned about properly keeping a betta, take it out of the bowl you have it in and put it in a heated, filtered tank.
KELLIE KUNTZ says
Feeding them that amount daily will give them bloat and they can sink to the bottom of a tank and die. Please read more then one source. They need no more then 3 pellets every other day

I went to the pet valu in sheffield and that leslie Johnson girl was there and all she was doing was standing at the front counter talking to her associate. She didnt say anything to me or offer any assistance.

My recent visit to petvalue in sheffield ohio was not a pleasant one. I walked in the store the manager marissa i believe her name was didnt greet me or say anything to me neither did the employee Leslie. However when another customer came in after me they both greeted that customer and was very friendly and offered them assistance. I thought that was very rude and i did not appreciate that. What type of manager lets their employee be so disrespectful to one customer yet friendly to another. I think if you dont understand how to be pleasant with all customers then you shouldnt be working in a business where you need to show customer service.

I was in PetValu In Hockessin Delaware on 6/13 to purchase dog shampoo for my dogs. The manager Trevor was very helpful and he recommended dog shampoo and gave me great advice on dog food and diets for my lab who suffers from seizures. We had just come back from a trail walk with our dogs and decided to stop in for the shampoo. Trevor offered us a complimentary dog wash. I had said that I didn’t think my dogs would corporate taken a bath at the store. We were going to go home and wash them. Trevor said he would help us wash the dogs at the store. We took him up on the offer and the dogs were great. We even got try out the new dog shampoo we had just purchased. Hadn’t Trevor been so kind and offered us a wash we probably wouldn’t have ever taken our dogs for a bath there. Now we will always bring them there and definitely go back to that store in Hockessin because of the excellent and kind, professional customer service of Trevor. I want to thank Trevor for being so wonderful and for taken time out to assist us with all his professional knowledge. You have just earned a new Pet Valu customer! We will be back for sure!

I shop in the Findlay, ohio store. The employees are awesome there they are always willing to help me out. Then recently I had an issue with one of the employees her name is Christin. I was shopping with my daughter’s and she came out and made a horrible comment about my daughter’s which I was shocked by what she said. She was saying that my girls weren’t raised like ladies. Which truly offended me, she also went on to say that her daughter was raised not to be a whore and continued on from there. I really love the Findlay store just that girl really offended me and my daughter’s.

Edgwater New jersey store.. 1st i like to say that the staff young ladies that work there are so nice .. The problem in that store is management the women that is manager there is nasty i have on many occasions seen how she has spoken to customers and to staff and im sorry but as a business owner my self she would of been fired.. How does a company allow someone like that to be there face of a store with an attitude and disrespect as she has. I have decided to take my business else where which is inconvenient since i live in Fort Lee.
what does it take for corporate office to do something about the management and attitude in that store ? maybe if enough customers leave they will finally do something about it

Hello,
I was in your Westland, MI store. Very nice store. The only thing I see a problem with is the Shampoo/Blow Dryer, I own Samoyeds and if I were to go there and bath them and then blow them dry, the WHOLE store would be covered in white hair!!!!
I think there should be a room w/ a glass and a door that the hair stays in. I took my dog to Paws & Claws (the store there before you moved there) and they had a real nice closed room so when the groomer blew a dog the hair stayed in the room.

Your Quakertown, PA location has lost my business permanently. I went into the store to purchase raised dog food stands with bowls for my 3 dogs. I was talking with another couple I know who was also shopping in the store. The cashier, Jen, made a snide comment about how I like to spend my husbands money. I don’t know this girl and for her to make a comment like that was completely out of line.
I had to return yesterday to pick up the back ordered food stand with bowls and the same cashier was working and giving my nasty looks. Again, I do not know this girl with the exception of the 2 times I’ve shopped in this store and my experience was very negative.
On a side note, I ordered the stand/bowl set on 7/2 and nobody called me to advise this was in. I was initially told this would arrive in the next shipment which I believe was to be on a Thursday. Nobody ever took my information to contact me to alert me that my order had come in until I stopped in the store to inquire about my order. I even went out of my way to another store to check if another location had this in stock.
I don’t plan on shopping at this store ever again because of this employee.

Sirs: My company is an independent supplier of LED lighting based in Florida. For quite some time we have been trying to get in touch with the Pet Supermarket people in
Florida to show them how a switch to LED lighting can save them much money annually
and pay for itself many times over the life of the LED bulb, but our phone calls have never been answered,
Now that they are part of your company I thought I would reach out in the hope that you might take a fresh look at this. We can easily do a free survey in one store and show you amazing results.
Please respond if interested.
