Pancheros Mexican Grill was founded in 1992 by current owner and CEO Rodney Anderson. Anderson opened his first location across from the University of Iowa campus with money he earned in the stock market. The company then expanded to 10 more locations, all of them near college campuses.
Today, the company has more than 67 mostly franchised locations across the US. They are best known for their Tex-Mex style food, including tortillas made by hand at each location. With almost every location being open 24 hours, Sports Illustrated voted Pancheros the most popular restaurant to go to when the bars close down.
The company serves burritos, tacos, burrito bowls, and salad. In addition to fresh tortillas, the company makes its salsa, queso dip, and guacamole fresh at each restaurant each day.

Ordered food before 9pm tonight and the workers locked the doors, they don’t close until 11pm. Couldn’t get my food and I paid online, very unprofessional!! I watched some customers were bringing food out the back door, when I went to ask they simply said we’re closed!! Where is my money and what is going on in there?

Went to Ankeny location and ordered 3 tacos . All three tacos were smashed together in a single tin foil wrapper and completely a sloppy mess . I took it back in and asked two employees for help and after 10 minutes of waiting I just put the mess on the counter at register and walked out .. I’ll never go back .

Got food from altoona, ia location on. 3/13/22 got 4 meals to go.
couldnt eat them, black beans smelled like cigarette ash, tasted like it too. Called the store the manager picked up didnt was very rude and didnt want to talk. Told her i had a serious complaint if she wanted to stay silent if return to the store with local law enforcement as nicotine in food is a pretty serious thing.
She started talking then, i was nice the rest of the tome ahe called the gm they were suppose to issue a refund and the gm was suppose to call us sunday. Neither of these things happen! Guess who froze all 4 meals and video recording the conversation.

I absolutely love Pancheros. It is my go to lunch spot maybe once a week.
Its fast, friendly and just a block away from work.
This last time may just be the end of my lunch visits though. I walked in
noticed no one was up front, went to flag someone down in the back.
Couldn’t see anyone, it took a few times yelling hello for someone to come
up front. A lady with a really dirty shirt with tones of big stains and
oily blue hair with a chin guard of a mask came out. Not saying a word to
me. I walked to the area to order my food and noticed she didnt stop to
put gloves on. So I figured she had clean gloves on. When finished
getting my order. Went to go check out with her and while giving her my card noticed those were not
clean gloves. I hesitated and told her she really should have changed her
gloves. There were black marks and holes all over them. Now I was hungry
and yes she didnt touch my food other then the bowl and the scoops.
However the gloves should have been changed along time ago.
She went back to the back and never seen her again.
As I went to go look for a clean table, noticed no clean tables
all of them had some food left from previous customers. I grabbed
my own sanitizer wipes from my purse and cleaned off a table. As I
proceeded to eat my food. I love Pancheros by the way for the amazing
taste. I noticed the manager came out to talk to a friend, he had no mask
on. After that another two employees came out one young man and a young
lady with blonde hair. The young man had his mask under his chin and was
getting meat ready to fry. I understand why the mask was not on properly
especially when frying up food. The blonde lady however was trying to wear
a mask, it covered her chin and bottom lip. Not once did I see her change
her gloves though. Made me wounder if her gloves were as bad as the first
girls. Now taking a bite of my food just didnt seem so smart at this time.
All the unclean tables, gloves, shirts were getting to me. The
putting the new mask issue in hand and I lost my appetite. I through
maybe half of my bowl away with just disgust from adding all of it up.
Walking to my car the last two customers that just ordered left at the
same time as I did. They were talking with each other about how the
lady with blonde hair had really nasty gloves and the stains on her shirt. So
more then one unclean outfit with dirty gloves.
I was absolutely discussed!!!! The dirty gloves while handling
food. The dirty shirts that should be replaced. The in proper use of masks,
definitely are not being used to protect your customers or employees. The
lobby of dirty tables, no reason at all to have dirty tables an hour or
two after lunch rush. The garbage overflowing from lunch rush. Im
wondering sense I didn’t pay attention to the table, was it clean? What
does the back look like if the front was unkempt.

Honestly too many managers. Over half of them put all the work on others. The Store Manager and assistant should be ashamed and If they had any idea on how a shift should be sheduled they would do 100% better. I have 7 years of management experience and some Business and Management College experience; there are more Shift Leads then employees. Not many to manage and we all know if too many managers on a shift it causes friction especially when Store managers don’t make leads aware of shift changes means manager in charge changes. There is so much misinformation and confusion on the shifts and honestly I see at least 5-6 people during day shift and only 2/3 people for dinner rush. I feel dayshift is very set maybe a little too over set. I have seen employees argue to the point customers walk out and honestly I do myself. I notice the managers aren’t fully trained by Store Manager or General manager on actual Poncheros rules, regulations and job performance. I feel that whoever is in charge of this store needs a crash course in reality and stop promoting every staff member. I see at least 2 people on Night shift who deserve so much more credit as well as one or two others who have credit due but get passed on promotions and those who don’t or can’t handle the pressure. There are so many other things wrong and over looked I’m surprised this establishment is still opened!

The manager Leann Carman in Sioux city IA 51104 is a horrible. Told us we had to wear non-ripped jeans and decent work shoes. She does the exact opposite and wearing slippers?? I’ve had to apologize to customers about her yelling and language. Also didn’t like the way she was talking to other co-workers, it made me feel uncomfortable. I worked only a week and a half there. At the end of my shift i said bye to her and that id see her the next day. She thought i left as told me to go F**k myself. What?? Then claims she was talking to another co-worker which is a close friend to her. NO! She was talking to me. Then i go and get my paycheck, and she LOWERED MY PAY!!! That was not what we agreed when i got hired. You know i just lost my previous job at Younkers because of the store closing, you think she’d have a heart. I have so many references telling, that I am a good, kind worker. I know for a fact i didnt did anything wrong and yeah when i seen that she’d changed it ugly things were said because thanks to her i could only pay for 1 of my bills. I won’t let her get away with this. Also, i tried getting her to admit that she changed my pay, she called me immature. Wow

I’m the one who tweeted about your Iowa City location in Clinton street and how horribly they treated their customers. The manager at that location even witnessed it all and said nothing to his employees but whispered to me that they would get “written up”. the two employees need to be fired, immediately. They threw out racial slurs, said f*** you to me and other customers as well as flipped us off. Then continued to drag out the incident by mumbling under their breath and calling people b****es and Black b****es. This is the worst expierence I have ever had in my life. The disrespect and language used was appalling. The two workers names were something Jackson and Robert. It was a male and a female. I did not get full names because the manager refused to tell me when I asked because I wanted to contact headquarters about them and stated “he would deal with it in his own” and because of the amount of yelling going on at the location between customers and workers and even customers and customers due to the two employee’s outrageous behavior. I am disgusted and outraged.

On 5/9/17 I sent a complaint to pancheros.com and have never received a response. Is this how you treat customers? The nature of the complaint was about my local Pancheros here in Mason City. While ordering a quesadilla, a young man who was cooking at the grill complained that it was too hot and wasn’t going to wear his hat. Basically, he had no head covering. I suspect this is a health code violation since he was cooking food, yet, with no head covering. Hair can fall in the food, sweat, etc. Generally people loose 50-100 hairs a day! How gross is that? I’ve noticed a decline in the cleanliness of this grill and the overall customer service. I haven’t been back there since, and feel that Pancheros really doesn’t care about their customer’s concerns. Also, in my observation there are more things wrong in that grill that may warrant a visit from the Health Dept. What is most upsetting is that no one has taken a minute to respond to my complaint. I guess my business won’t be missed.
