Twitch TV, also known as Twitch Interactive, or simply Twitch, was launched in 2006 as Justin.TV. At the time, the site was divided into several content categories but the gaming section grew incredibly fast, quickly becoming the dominating content sector.

The company decided to spin off the gaming content as Twitch TV in 2007.

Twitch is an American video live-streaming service that focuses on live-streaming video games, including broadcasts of esports competitions and news stations, in addition to offering music broadcasts, creative content, and “in real life” streams.

History

In August 2014, Twitch was acquired by Amazon for an estimated $970 million.

As of February 2020, Twitch had 3 million broadcasters monthly and 15 million daily active users, with 1.4 million average concurrent users.

In July 2023, Chess streamer Alyssazhu was streaming live on Twitch from a park when her camera was knocked over before a racist rant against one of her opponents.

In 1967, Charles and Emerson Frey opened the first Turkey Hill Minit Markets store on Columbia Avenue in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, as a way to better market their dairy products.

In the 1970s, the company continued to expand by acquiring other convenience stores, such as the 36 Louden Hills stores in 1979 and six Ideal Markets. As of 2017, there are 267 locations.

Kroger owned Turkey Hill Minit Markets for a few years but then sold it to the EG Group in 2018.

History

Also in 2018, the company installed blue lights inside many locations in order to prevent people from using intravenous drugs in the bathrooms.

Turkey Hill Minit Markets is owned by the EG Group and operated independently from Turkey Hill, a separate Peak Rock Capital-owned brand of iced tea, ice cream, and other beverages and frozen desserts.

In January 2020, Burger King opened a location inside a Turkey Hill Minit Market in Pennsylvania. This is part of an overall plan by Turkey Hill to include fast food locs inside many of its stores.

Trulia was founded in 2005 when Stanford Business School graduates Pete Flint and Sami Inkinen were searching for off-campus housing. The pair was shocked to discover that the local real estate information available online was often insufficient, outdated, or both.

The pair created a simplified way to find rentals and home buying using technology already in existence.

The company originally was limited to properties in California. Soon after, with growing demand from listing agents wanting to give their listings more visibility nationwide, Trulia rolled out across the US less than a year later.

History

In July 2014, Zillow acquired Trulia for $3.5 billion.

In 2018, the company launched Trulia Neighborhoods to enable home buyers, sellers, and renters to find information about a particular neighborhood. This feature provides original photography, drone footage, reviews from local residents, and facts about each area.

In February 2023, Trulia announced that it was cutting back on office space at its headquarters building.

Pogo began as a few games that employees created and played at Total Entertainment Network. Realizing that they could load ads in the games, TEN began offering games online in 1998.

In 2001, Electronic Arts acquired Pogo from TEN for $40 million.

In 2003, the company created “Club Pogo”, a subscription-based game service with perks to subscribers including exclusive members-only rooms, no ad interruptions, graphic emoticons (smileys) (discontinued), private chat, “Pogo Minis”, AKA Avitars, and more.

Pogo games are a bit different than other online games in that users aren’t just playing a game solo, but rather they are playing inside a virtual room that allows other players to enter the room, compete, and chat while playing.

In December 2022, Pogo and Hasbro are collaborating to create RISK: Pogo Domination for both browsers and mobile devices.

Pogo currently offers more than 50 casual games from makers like Pop Cap and Hasbro. All games are free with ads or users can sign up for subscriptions.

Microsoft Bing was founded in 2009, replacing the former MSN search and then later the MS Live service.

On February 7, 2023, Microsoft began rolling out a major overhaul to Bing that included a new chatbot feature based on OpenAI’s GPT-4. According to Microsoft, one million people joined its waitlist within a span of 48 hours

In March 2023, Bing reached 100 million active users.

In July 2023, Bing announced that its new AI sidebar would remember previous conversations. This is despite warnings from OpenAI about rushing Chat GPT-4 integration into Bing.

Bing is also introducing an AI Image creator that can make stunning images with just a few mouse clicks.
