My parents had accounts with M&T for years – I was POA and since their passing, executor.
Numerous times I have taken copies of both death certificates in and have been assured that they are on file. Today, I went in to move monies from one account (close it) to another – only to be told I cannot do this without authorization from one of my parents. I mentioned they are both passed (2014 and 2020) and copies of death certificates are on file. NO -I have to go wait for a bank officer who looks everything up and says nothing on file! I will have to bring in again. The staff I worked with in the past are now at different branches/roles and the one who is still at this branch remembers me bringing them in, but has problems with technology so she did get them scanned !!!! Really ! So frustrating – I also mentioned that 2 other ATF accounts have been closed and how could that be possible without the death certificate ? At a loss for my frustration with this.

I think it’s a shame that a bank holds your own money as hostage, I had a business account for many years as well as personal! I am closing on my house in Florida and this bank will not wire my money to my closing for my house so now I have lost my closing cause this bank refuses to wire my money not there money to my closing company for my new house which now I have lost cause this bank would not wire my money! I’m pulling my accounts out of this bank and I would advise people not to use this bank they do not care about customers and making money! Other banks can wire your money but this bank wants to hold your money hostage ! What’s the deal??? All this just for my money!

I have spoken to your people multiple times and still no fix. your mortgage department still fails to fix a problem that has disqualified me for the VA program. My next step is to call the VA home loans. I have spoken to an attorney and have decided that the best way to ensure other veterans and active duty service members, less fortunate than I, should never have to ensure the complete disregard for customer service. you can look up notes and recorded calls that your people and I have had. all your people had to do was remove an erroneous late payment from my records to the credit agencies. that is all. and your people refused to do so and yell at me. I am aa disabled vet with hearing loss. your people hung up on me because I couldn’t hear them and they thought I was talking over them. this happened twice. also refusing to transfer me to someone else. there is no other number other than the mortgage. who else did I have the option to call? so now, I will try to make sure no one else has to deal with you. especially those who have served our nation. you feel free to call me. your department has my number.

I was selling my home. a mortgage person I spoke to told me that due to receiving a payoff statement, the payment shouldn’t be sent in. the sale fell through. I was in constant contact with them. they still reported the payment as late even though I paid it but it wasn’t processed for a week, making me 30 days late. I did not choose M&T bank, like many. my mortgage was sold to them. I am sure NO ONE will use them. their track record is garbage. I spoke to one of their employees who pretty much cussed me out. nice… feel free to call me MT Bank. I have spoken to everyone I could and was hung up on because I asked for someone else. you record these calls… pull it up. my credit suffered erroneous late reports from your team. but you really don’t care, do you. DO NOT USE M&T BANK.

My mortgage was transferred to them after 12 years from another lender. The first payment I walked into the branch due to the fact they sent a letter 2 weeks of the payment being due. Keep in mind the company that sold the mortgage to them sent the statement to pay them as well for the same month. When I paid my check, after 2 weeks my check never cleared. I went to the branch where I made the payment and was told the check was not processed because I “post dated” it. I told them that is impossible. I would never do that and the teller that processed the payment would have caught it as well. I requested a copy of the check, they claimed and a research request, they tell me i am correct the check was find, so I told them to process the check and there should not be any late fees because it was a bank error. M& T they
” cant find” my check. I was furious, i filed a complaint. the research dept calls to tell me the reason is now, NSF?? i said this whole bank is crazy. i called my bank they tell me the check never came to my bank for processing. Now i decides to call directly to the m& t website to pay. Keep in mind the collection calls start on the 5th of the month. I promise you when i am writing a letter to corporate and i will be refinancing. i will never deal with a bank like this as my first encounter. i will never have any banking products with them.

I have my rv morgaged threw M&T bank in Baltimore MD.On sept 24 this year i sent an INS Check to the bank for damages to my satelite an awning .the check had my name an bank name on it.I wanted them to sign an return to me so i can make the repairs.after 3 wks not hereing from them i called an they said they need invoice from repair shop.i stated i was doing the repairs an they said i need to show receipts showing the full amount of check.i could not do this saying i could only aford to buy used an installed items myslf.the bank refused to send me the check back an refused to put the amout of check toward mu account.All i want is for the bank to apply the check to my account an they refused.repairs have been made by myself ,i replaced the satelite an awning.have no reciepts.they want me to contact ins an have them give me a smaller check for the exact amount it cost me for repairs.what a bunch of hog wash.they ware holding the check hostage unless i give them an invoice from a reg repair shop for the exact amount thats on the check.what to do ?check good for 90 days,I will look for another bank at the very least an stop paying for ins when i cant collect when something happens.in the end the ins company wins.cant use the check bank wont do nothing with it.Says thats there policy.mine is to find another bank that will work with me

I am floored with the lack of respect that M&T bank shows its customers. On March 2, 2018, my family and I experienced a terrible experience with damage to our home due to severe weather conditions in Northeastern, Pa. We received a check from our insurance and because M7T is our mortgage company, the check was made out to them as well. We were in a hotel for over a month. We took the check inot the branch in Stroudsburg, Pa, where the branch manager is AJ. He did follow through with the proper processing of the check and held it in his upper right drawer for over a month. When we would go into the branch, he would make inappropriate jokes like, you could go buy a car. These were uninvited, finally he puts the check through and calls me on my cell phone, stating that he had given the check to the proper person, who stated that she would expedite the check due to our cirXXXXstances and that we would have the check in 3 days. Not true, it is now 4 months and counting, we have lost 3 contractors, our temporary housing is about to run out and M&T is still playing games with this money. We have completed the packet that they required, even had our contractors complete it as well. Now the issue is that they made the check out to the contractor and my husband, so we go to the bank. They can’t cash the check because its too much money, really $14,000.00. So the teller tells us to put the check in my husband and mine account and have the contractor sign it. We do that she says it will be available on Tuesday and that we can get a cashiers check . That didn’t happen. I am asking that the CEO Robert G. Wilmer, CFO Rene F. Jones, and COO Mark J. Czamecki look into this matter. This bank is not customer friendly at all.

I like this bank. At least the one I use personally. My bank is located at 2841 Tome Highway, Colora, MD 21917. My only really really BIG complaint is why the parking lot is constructed the way it is ? I want to know who to write to about fixing it. The design barely allows a car to fit let alone a truck or suburban like I drive. It’s the parking. They put 2 small trees in where they could actually make room for more space to pull your vehicle in and back out of the parking spots. So many people end up parking all over the place, hence taking up 2 spaces because there is NO ROOM to swing you car in or out. I mean a bank that only has 1 Handicapp and maybe 8 spots to park in is really ridiculous. The workers take up the other GOOD spots when they should be parking behind the building. Someone please see this and please look at this parking problem at this branch.

The thing that drives me crazy is if you are a new customer and open an account checking or savings you receive a promotional gift of some sort $100 or sports gifts or something to attract new customers,WELL what happened to the old time customers like myself or others. 1972 to 2017 that amounts to 45 years of loyalty . How about NICE JOB 45 or a toaster.

I am not a satisfied customer! I will be refinancing my home loan through another company and tell everyone I know not to business with M & T Bank. They reported me the credit bureau for a 30 day late payment when it wasn’t late. We paid on time but there was some fraudulent activity on our checking account that we did not know about which caused the payment to not go through. We had no idea anything was wrong until I got an email from the credit bureau that there was an alert on my credit. If I had known sooner I would’ve taken care of it. M & T Bank did not contact me by phone or email regarding payment not received. In fact, my statement for the following month had no past due amount listed. I have called customer service to help rectify the situation but they are not willing to do anything about it. I even sent a letter to them with a doXXXXent from my bank stating we obviously attempted to make the payment on time and the fraudulent activity was beyond our control. Still nothing. My credit score dropped a significant amount because of this and I have an excellent payment history with them.

In late august my mother purchased an rv with my help as poa through Albany rv. The loan was apparently done through m & t. To date, the only correspondence we have received from M& T is a “thank you for choosing M & T letter. We have not received a statement or coupon book. As POA I have called to try and get loan information. Apparently Albany RV never sent that over, so I stopped into a branch to drop off a copy of the POA paperwork and find out when the first payment was due. We purchased in late August and my assumption is that there is a 45 day window before the first payment is due. Having said that, when I was in the branch I was told that Oct 1 is the first due date. which gives me 2 weeks to pay from todays date. However my mother received a call from asset management that it was due Sept 1. Seems pretty quick from a late august purchase to have a pyment due on sept 1, but the fact that we have not received a statement or coupon book to make the payment is frustrating. Not only that, but after I dropped the poa paperwork off, I attempted calling back. Spoke to Bridget in asset management explained my dilemma and she was going to warm transfer me to someone who could help me. After sitting on hold for over 10 minutes the phone line magically disconnected. So I call the client service line and got a woman who spoke so fast and unclearly that I kept having her repeat what she was saying. When I explained the poa situation and that I was trying to set up an auto pay she told me that without the poa that she could not help me. I again explained that I had dropped the poa paperwork off at a local branch. she said she couldn’t see it and that I needed to fax it. I don’t have access to a fax so I asked if I could email. she said no. either fax or mail. Now apparently I am past due on a loan that I have not received any paperwork on and no one will help me because your service center and branches don’t share information. ERGGGGH. Not too mention that she was rude and hung up on me. I am furious and disgusted with the lack of attention to detail and service I am receiving from this bank and will never say a good thing about it. How can a loan be due less than 15 days after purchase, how can a branch tell me the first payment is due 10/1 and then have asset management tell me it was due 9/1? How can I deliver poa paperwork to a branch and your client service ctr not have access to that information and how can you hire an individual who is rude and a complete idiot for your service center? I want to file a complaint at the executive level and with better business bureau. This is unacceptable.

As a business owner with a business account and 3 checking accounts with M&T you would think your Lavale Maryland manager would contact me back after several attempts to ask about a fee I was charged. I have tried for the last time and finally got it handled by calling corporate. I really grow tired of being told one day by the manager to “use the ATM” instead of coming inside so she will look good on whatever quotas you give these people. And then on the next hand I can’t get a simple phone call back after 3 days? I am seriously considering withdrawing my business from your bank as this is has left a very bad taste in my mouth. Poor poor customer service especially from a manager.

I am furious. I cannot believe I opened an account with this bank and entrusted my money with M&T. I submitted a claim with M&T bank after being scammed over $3,000 right before Christmas. I was told I had nothing to worry about, and I would get my money back after. To make a long story short, my claim was denied and I the money that was stolen from my account will not be given back. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to this bank. Stay away!!!

I deposited a $4,456.01 insurance check on 5/27/2015 mistakenly requiring two endorsements. I didn’t notice as this was repayment for monies that I, not the mortgage company, had spent for repair of burst pipe damage. On 10/18/2016 this amount was “adjusted” from my account without prior notification from M&T. Luckily I had enough in my account to keep from earning an overdraft notice. I went to my branch office to inquire status to be told that the bank is required to hold action for 30-days following my notification, but would then send a cashiers check to the original issuer’s Comerica Bank. On 11/21/2016 I called Customer Service to be told that the cashiers check to Comerica Bank was in process, but guaranteed it will be sent out within 10-days. “Call back in a week to verify.” On 11/28/2016 I called CustSvc to be told that the check was still in process, but guaranteed it would be sent out within another 10-days. “Call back in a week to verify.” Talked with “George” on 12/05/2016 to be told that (1) the cashiers check was made out to McLarens, Inc., not Comerica Bank, and (2) the Adjustments Services Dept had sent the check to Customer Services mistakenly made out in the wrong amount. Consequently it was returned for re-issue. “Wait another week to verify actual recipient name and when sent.” On 12/15/2016 talked with “Cynthia” and her manager to be told “the check is in process and is (again) guaranteed to be sent within 10 working days”. The end issuer has recognized that they made a mistake over a year and one half ago issuing the check to two parties and upon receipt of M&T’s cashiers check will reissue me (solely) a replacement check. This foot dragging does not bode well for M&T’s heretofore fine reputation of doing the right thing and doing things right. This is the 4th unfulfilled “Guarantee” that the stated action will be taken. What next? Where do I go from here?

Imagine I withdrew $4500 from my credit union to open a checking account at MT&T in Bowie. MT&T is having a special if you do direct deposit you will receive $200. So at around 12:50pm I walked into MT&T and about 12:55pm I was asked how I could be helped. WELL…………I said I would like to open an account, SO I was informed that it was 12:56pm and that the bank would be closing in 4 minutes and if I could come back on Monday. Why would I come back on Monday if I’m here now. Are you crazy, are you kidding me. How many times has someone been in place and they were closing and still assisted you. SO…….I stood up and preceded to leave then she said oh we can open your account today it will take about 20 minutes. WHAT she should have said is , sure I can open your account it will take about 20 mins. YOU have lost a good customer. Unbelievable….I will take my $4500 in redeposit it back into my bank. Thanks for nothing. Sure poor customer service.

My name is Cherly Sanford and I am a soon to be, previous customer of M&T Bank. I am giving 5 stars to Mr. Cecil Vonstepp, who assisted me this past weekend, July 11, 2015, for his great customer care and damage control. In April of this year there was a charge to my account that I did Not approve; I received an alert regarding the transaction and immediately called customer service. The gentleman who assisted me informed me that several account holders received the same unauthorized debit. I assured him that I did Not order TIME Sports Illustrated as I receive free magazines and I am Not into sports. M&T placed the $24.95 back into my account pending an investigation.
On July 11, 2015. I received a letter from M&T stating, in so many words that, I am a liar. Part of the letter said, “After a review of your account and a thorough investigation, we have determined that the transaction(s) in question were processed correctly and no error has occurred. Therefore, we are denying your claim.” Obviously, the investigation was not thoroughly done because it took Mr. Vonstepp to go the extra mile for the real resolution!
As you can imagine, I was livid. When I reached Mr. Vonstepp I was spewing venom! His damage control tactics placed me at ease as he said, “Ms. Sanford, we will get to the bottom of this. Please take a deep breath?” He went above and beyond the call of duty by way of investigating the issue alongside me; we called the 800 number and was able to get REAL results!
Mr. Vonstepps’ patience and tolerance made my experience with M&T a wonderful one. I want to thank Mr. Vonstepp for being my cheerleader in a time of crisis. He should be in the investigative field as he is Thorough and gets results that benefit the customer And M&T Bank. Although I told him I would stay with M&T because of his greatness I am not comfortable with a bank that would not fight for me as he is the exception.
In closing, I hope you receive this commendation on behalf of Mr. Cecil Vonstepp’s great customer care and concern for me, a little speck of a banker. Thank you, Cecil!
