Monro Muffler Brake was founded in 1957, originally as a franchise of Midas Muffler, by Charles August. Within 10 years, August decided that he wanted his shops to do more than just muffler work. Along with his two brothers, August began a new shop he called Monro Muffler.
Today, the company has more than 1,200 locations across the US, 6,150 full-time employees, and $894 million in revenue in 2015. The company went public on the NASDAQ in 1991 under the ticker symbol: MNRO. In the past 16 years, Monro has acquired more than 30 automotive, tire, and muffler shops including Mr. Tire Auto Service Centers, Tread Quarters Discount Tire Auto Service Centers, Autotire Car Care Centers, Ken Towery’s Tire & AutoCare, The Tire Choice & Total Car Care, and Tire Barn Warehouse.
Monro Muffler Brake continues to employ a slow, but steady growth and acquisition program that has worked out well under current CEO John Van Heel.

I worked in the Louisville Ky sister company of Monro Tire Now and my check was taken by management when I decided I no longer wanted the opportunity due to so many red flags I was given a written check that does not have my name spelled accurately with less the amount that I was to get, I have been reaching out to HR for a week with no follow up, I have yet to be paid for my services and what I was advised.

Had my car inspected at monroe in canandaigua NY. Well come to find out they gave me someone else’s inspection sticker. When I went back to address it they told me they wouldn’t fix it and kicked me off there property after coming to my car to harass me more. I have been a loyal customer for 15 years never have I had such bad service. And to top if off I need that sticker and they refuse to replace it so I can’t drive my car.

It’s the same old crap story that I’ve been hearing from both Mr.Tire and Monro about bad service and it doesn’t matter where you go it’s always the same. I’ve been telling people about this for awhile. This company only cares about profit and that’s all. They don’t care about your safety, your family’s safety or other people on the road.I believe anyone who had service done by Monro or any of their stores should file a class action lawsuit and try to re-coop some of the money that they have been scammed out of.The BBB have been fully aware of this and the state AG office have also been made aware of this.
John Smith says
I agree with Joe 100%. It seems that any Monro(and their sister stores)in the 607 area code are all a bunch of crooks.DO NOT GO TO MONRO/MR.TIRE for anything. All of their techs are NOT experienced and they look like they just got out of high shcool.I saw one tech use You Tube to show them how to replace a part on a EVAP system. Then I was told that the part that they replaced didn’t fixed the issue at the Mr.Tire in Cortlandville,NY and then they wondered why they got turned in to the BBB and the AG Office. The techs are NOT ASC certified that the poster on the wall at Monro/Mr.Tire claim(fruad/deception).I’d rather pay the dealer price(or go to a honest repair shop) for honest work then go there for anything.Anybody stupid enough to go to either Monro/Mr.Tire deserves to get screwed over.Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I made an appointment with Monro Muffler Brake for Tuesday, June 18th for an oil change because I saw the advertised $15.99 oil change sign at the business location. When I arrived at my scheduled appointment time all of the bays were full of cars and an elderly lady in front of me was attempting to have an issue with her car looked at. Realizing that my appointment was going to take much longer than anticipated I offered her my appointment and rescheduled mine for Wednesday, June 19th. When I arrived on Wednesday I was informed that the most inexpensive oil change would be $24.99, not the advertised price. I opted for the synthetic oil change that would be $45.00. I was told that I would receive a free tire rotation as well. Then I was told that it would take them an HOUR to perform the work. I instructed them to not do the tire rotation as time was a factor for me. I went and had lunch with my father and went back to pick up my vehicle. They performed the tire rotation against my wishes. When I left my vehicle was vibrating, the steering wheel was shaking and I could hear an awful thumping noise as I drove. I work afternoon shift so I drove to work with my car in this condition. I called Monro this morning and explained my situation. I had to make yet another appointment today to resolve the issue. When I took my vehicle in I was told that one of my tires was bad and needed to be replaced. I was not having any issues with my tires prior to Monro rotating them even though I instructed them not to. The least inexpensive tire in stock ended up costing $122! As I could not drive the vehicle in the condition I received it back in I had no choice than to replace the tire. (it was a 75,000 mile tire with 40,000 miles on it) My so called $15.99 oil change ended up costing me over $160.00! This place is a total rip off! A lady in front of me today was getting gouged as well. I will never go back and will warn everybody I know as well.

BEWARE – Fraud, Deception and Careless Business Practices.
I made the horrible mistake of taking my vehicle to Monro Store # 462 in North Olmsted, Ohio for suspension repair and an oil change. I asked the store manager for good quality shocks to be installed. Instead, Monro installed the cheapest shocks they could find. – Shock Part # 5672. I complained about ride comfort. The store manager promised to replace the shocks with “better ones” after I had the vehicle inspected by another reputable mechanic to check and verify Monro’s work.
After a couple more days, the ride was still terrible and getting worse. I went back to the same mechanic for another opinion. The mechanic pointed out that instead of replacing the shocks, Monro decided to spray paint the same existing cheap shocks a different color and covering up the manufacturers label hoping that a mechanic or I would not notice and make the mechanic and I believe that the shocks were replaced.
Monro pried the rear bushings apart on my torsion beam with 2 pry bars and installed 2 pieces of thin plastic to help quiet the vehicle down causing over $1,900 in additional damages.
Lastly, other drivers on the road kept pointing at my rear tire. Monro over torqued the lug nuts on my rear tire causing 2 of them to break off along with the studs. Monro sent me home with a wobbly tire.
Monro Store # 462 had my vehicle for 4 days to replace 2 rear shocks and perform an oil change. The store manager thought that applying a coat of spray paint to the shocks and installing plastic would provide much better ride comfort.
I paid $783.49. In return, I got spray paint, 2 pieces of plastic, a wobbly tire and vehicle damages totaling $1,979.22. Monro Corporate does not care what their employees do. They could not even apologize for this mess.
If you care about your car, I would definitely recommend going to another repair facility and not going to Monro store # 462 or any Monro store. Otherwise, get your flash light and a microscope ready and have another mechanic check and verify Monro’s work like I did. The best $10.78 I ever spent. Photos, videos, mechanic comments and repair estimates are available upon request.

I brought my car to MONRO MUFFLER in Derby on Division Street for an oil change.. And two months later my engine blew on the highway (with my kids in the car) due to having NO oil in it.. If oil changes are done every 3,000 miles why from the time of service and what the service sticker said was 4,000 miles until my next oil change. I only put 1,819 miles on my car since. I contacted them and explained what happened they immediately offered to pay for a tow to get my car back to their shop. They inspected my car and told me there were absolutely no signs of any oil leaks and my car was not burning any oil. The employee started looking up engines for me to purchase so they can install it themselves. Once I refused to purchase a motor from them. They wanted me to pay for the tow they offered to get my car back, otherwise they were refusing to release it!!! I had to contact the merchandise manager and had to use my insurance to get it towed back to my house… They admitted it was due to not having any oil in my car. They do not want to take responsibility for their mistake. (Either they never changed my oil or the employee who did it, didn’t put enough) Don’t go there!!!!

On August 19, 2017, I brought my vehicle in for an oil change at Store #42 in Amsterdam, NY, as I was travelling to New Jersey the following day for a holiday with my family, and the car was due for an oil change. I asked the manager, James Motto, to be sure to have the technician check my tires/tire pressure, and he told me that service is included with all oil changes. The following day, as I was about to pull into our hotel parking lot in Atlantic City, NJ, my tire pressure light came on. I parked the car, and upon checking the tires, I observed that my right, rear tire was flat. I further noticed that the inside sidewall of the tire was completely worn through to the steel belt material. I also noticed that the other rear tire was in similar condition, though it was still holding air. I immediately contacted the Monro Muffler shop in Amsterdam, and advised them of my situation, asking how they did not see the problem with these tires the day before when they serviced my car, and supposedly checked the tires. I was told that the manager was not in, and since they were about to close for the day, they could not assist me, and told me the manager would contact me the following day, which he never did. In the meantime, I’m 300 miles away in another state with a disabled vehicle. My car had to be removed from the hotel parking lot via flatbed truck, and it was transported the following morning to Mr. Tire (owned by Monro Muffler) Store #1190 in Manahawkin, NJ. I then spent the entire day of my vacation sitting at Mr. Tire, while they ordered and installed 2 new rear tires for my car. Upon returning home from New Jersey two days later, I returned to the Monro Muffler shop in Amsterdam, and spoke with manager, James Motto. He said he never received the message regarding my problem, and apologized that his technician overlooked the problem with my tires when they serviced it the day before I left for my trip. He stated Monro Muffler would reimburse me for the tires I had to purchase in New Jersey, which they did do, and that he would also reimburse me for the oil change as compensation for my inconvenience. Unfortunately, I was never reimbursed for that, even though I have made several attempts to contact Mr. Motto regarding this matter, including a written request that he honor his offer to reimburse me for the $87 oil change. Then, approximately 2 weeks after Mr. Tire installed the 2 rear tires on my car in New Jersey, I returned my car to a local dealership, as the lease was about to expire. Several weeks later, I received a letter from the dealership’s financial services, informing me that I owed them $1,100 for “mismatched tires!” Apparently, Mr. Tire put the wrong size tire on the back of my car, which triggered this penalty. Upon checking the doXXXXentation from Mr. Tire’s statement, they did, in fact put the wrong size tire on my car!!! If I had taken my car to some back-street mechanic’s garage I might have expected this type of mistake. However, when you take your car to a certified auto/tire service center, this type of error should never occur, and I am holding Mr. Tire/Monro Muffler responsible for this penalty fee, as it was their responsibility to install the proper tires on my vehicle, which they did not do. I have advised Monro Muffler Corporate Office of my issue on several occasions within the past 4 months, and have received no response whatsoever…next stop…BBB!!

I am reaching out to you, hopeful that you can help me. I have been working with Tire Barn, Columbus, IN along with your customer service team at Monro to resolve an issue that I have been dealing with since 10/29/17. On the said date, Tire Barn sold me 4 tires for $635.00. They were unable to install the purchased tires on Sunday afternoon and I told the manager, Tyler, that I would pay for them in advance and have my son pick-up the truck on Monday, 10/30/17. I called Tire Barn on 10/30/17 to see if the truck was ready and was placed on hold. In turn, they told me the truck was ready. Unfortunately, they failed to tell me that they did not install the tires, due to a concern with the safety (loose weld) on the truck. They loaded the tires in the truck and sent my son on his way. I contacted the manager within the hour and explained that I did not want the tires, if there was a safety issue with the truck and requested a refund on my debit card. My son returned the tires and the store said the refund had been issued. I watched the account for the mentioned credit and did not see it. 11/2/17: I called the store manager and he said it takes 3-5 days for refunds to return to the account. I patiently waited. 11/6/17: Contacted customer service from toll free number listed on back of the receipt. Explained situation to your representative, Meghan Towner, who responded that her records did not show that money was taken out of the out my account. I assured that it was and sent her the requested doXXXXentation supporting the account deduction. 11/9/17: She investigated, acknowledged the error and apologized that the store had processed the credit incorrectly. She was to have walked Tire Barn through the process and a credit should be issued from accountingcustomer servicebank by early week of 11/13/17. 11/14/17: I sent requests to Meghan Towner and spoke with the Store Manager, Tyler, seeking direction. I asked Tyler to make the necessary phone calls to correct the situation and call me to advise the status. I have been unable to get a response from anyone. I have many hours invested in something that should not have happened. Again, I am reaching out to Monro Muffler Brake to resolve this matter. Frankly, I am extremely disappointed in the entire experience. Please let me know what date I can expect a refund to my bank account. I appreciate your kind attention.

Hi,
I am writing for my son in law Jake Palmer who worked at Monroe on Perkiomen Ave, Reading PA up until July 2017. He was cut at work on 7/15/17 and had to leave work to go get stitches. His boss said he filled out all the necessary paperwork for workman’s compensation to pay the bill for the stitches yet we are still getting bills. It is now turned over to collections. We don’t know who to go to at this point because his boss has left as well as Tim the District Manager since this has happened. Can someone help get this taken care of? He has insurance but they won’t pay it since someone else is liable. This is not fair to him to have his credit hurt because of something he is not responsible for.
Thanks,

September 12,2017 around 12:45 I arrived at Mr Tire in Irwin, Pa Only for an oil change on my 08 Subaru. My car was driven into the gurage about 1;30 pm they put my car up on the rack and about half hour later I stated if your employees are going to just stand around smoking and eating I’ll take my car someplace else. The front desk employee said well we have a problem they can’t get your car down off the lift the hydraulic system had busted and they need to call a company in to fix it before your car came be brought down no work can be done on your car. The hydraulic fluid sprayed all over the car on the driver side on the drivers door my driver’s window was all the way down and open the passenger door and window on the driver side my back panel of the roof was completely covered with this hydraulic fluid oil, not one employee at Mr. tire had the balls to come over to me and tell me what happened other than me standing up complaining that they were taking so long then I noticed all this hydraulic fluid just pouring off of my car not one employee to this day and it’s been two days and my car is still sitting there had said they were sorry this happened the only thing that they say well things happen. Isn’t there some sort of company or higher up employees that are supposed to inspect these hydraulic systems that lifts up the car? I had contacted my insurance company they were sending out an adjuster to see if any damages were caused by this interruption of power when the hydraulic system had busted and quit working it jumped a little in the car fell a little. When the hose broke.
The insurance company is going out to investigate the situation because of the damage that may occur underneath the car while up in the air also any damages now or in the future to the pains of my car and I was told that this hydraulic fluid oil can potentially take the paint off of my car. This was such an inconvenience to me not only was I without a car because at the time I left all the rental services were closed and my car insurance company did not have ample time to reserve me a vehicle for transportation home . If I would’ve never straight up and ask questions of why the guys were just standing around they were not even willing to add knowledge the situation that just happened. I thought this was a joke I was very much inconvenience and the second day also inconvenience without a vehicle to go anywhere and to do what I needed to do. I told him to take the car off of the rock place it outside for my adjuster from my insurance company to look at it. Again I was ignored and they did not they left it inside locked up and closed up waited for my insurance adjuster to come out the next day. And one employee asked me if I can have it if they could have my permission To have a car ran through the car wash a few times I stated no just place it outside my insurance adjuster wants to look at it once again I was ignored they got their house out and continue to hose the car off and put some sort of soap on it I hosed it off then parked at the gentleman that was even working on the vehicle not once apologized for the incident that happened. I specified to one of the employees that I will go get my oil changed at someplace else again I was in the world they did the oil change. I didn’t not charge me for it. That’s the least they could’ve done but I told him not to touch my car again once I was ignored the owner of my vehicle was ignore three times by these employees. If I was a man they would’ve listened because I was a lady they do what they feel that they wanted to do. after numerous calls back-and-forth to my insurance company the adjuster it was a total nightmare my car did not come down off the left until a company came out to fix the left to allow my car to properly be brought down so from 12:45 PM i’ve been till 5 PM my day was wasted watching my car set up on this i’ve been till 5 PM my day was wasted watching my car set up on this lift. I had to find a way home while my car sat there for another day until the adjuster came out. I had to can vile all my appointments for that day and the next . Someone needs to be accountable for the way the equipment was in properly maintained. Also somebody needs to be Connable for the inconvenience they put me through for two days without having a vehicle for two days. And accountable for any damages that may have occurred and in the near future if there’s any damages that will occur to the pains of my car for leaving the hydraulic fluid on my car from 130 till 5 o’clock they did not even take the efforts to get a ladder to get up on the latter to take the oil off of my car but they did wipe off their concrete floor and also around the parts of the hydraulic system. Needless to say my car will never go back to Monro muffler again or Mr. tire again .

I AM THE INFURIATED WIFE OF NELSON SMITH. He posted comment on 9/5/17 regarding the broken brake line which happened at the Reisterstown, MD location on 7/24/17. I am still fuming over this whole ordeal. We did not choose to go to Monro. Our original apointment was with Mr. Tire to have 4 tires mounted, balanced and installed for $100.00. Mr. Tire sent us to Monro because they were understaffed and and could not perform the scheduled service. By the conclusion of the 40 minute visit at Monro, they wanted to upsell us a $900.00 tie rod service (which we later paid another mechanic $200.00 to replace) charge us $200.00(not honoring our original agreement of $100.00 at Mr. Tire) to mount, balance and install the tires. They actually only mounted and intalled, but did not balance only 1 tire and they broke our brake line in the process of doing that which cost us $1,300.00 for repair. The tech noticed, BUT DID NOT MAKE ANY MENTION TO MY HUSBAND AT THAT TIME, while backing my 6400lb. H2 Hummer out of the shop bay that the brakes weren’t working properly. The tech only admitted later, after the brakes completely failed while attempting to drive across the road to another mechanic, that he thought the brakes felt “spongy.” The tech drove the truck into the bay, right??The brakes were obviously were working fine at that time, or else that would have been the first service he would have tried to upsell us. Of course, its quite clear that the brake line damage happend while on the lift at the Monro shop that day. What pisses me off is that they allowed by husband to drive away, knowing that there was a brake issue. And they advertise as Monro Brake Specialist, Ha! Ha! What A Joke!!! There, by the grace of god, fortunately, no one was hurt or killed!! Well, after being dismissed by both Christine and Megan at Customer Service, emailing Corporate and being ignored, being disrespected by a Monro employee named Chris, who told me to, “keep fishing honey…call legal,” when I asked for the full names of the employees that worked on my vehicle that day. And finally, to not have received any reponse to the 2 demand letters I sent to Monro Headquarters. Well, I am obviously ENRAGED!!! I have been pursuing this for over 2 months now and I am not stopping until this is somehow resolved. Be warned, I am very persistent!! I will post comments as long as it takes until you respond. CORPORATE NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILTY FOR THE ACTIONS OF THEIR EMPLOYEES AND ADDRESS THIS SITUATION!!!!! And I am positive I speak for all of your many, many, many dissatisfied customers who seek some sort of resolution, which they are not receiving. DO SOMETHING!!!! Customer Service and Corporate just don’t care!!! I don’t know how you all stay in business??????

On 7/24/17, immediately after leaving the Reisterstown, MD Monro location parking lot my 2006 H2 Hummer suffered complete brake failure. I was in to have 4 tires mounted, balanced and installed. After mounting and attempting to balance one tire, the mechanic advised me that he did not know how to balance my particular kind of wheel/tire. He, at that point tried to up sell me a tie rod service for $900.00. After declining the additional tie rod service, the mechanic, Tony abruptly lowered my vehicle and backed it out of the shop bay. I loaded my remaining 3 tires into my vehicle and promptly left the property. My destination was a mechanic shop located on the opposite side of Reisterstown Road, approximatley 200 yards away. My brakes began failing immediatley while trying to exit the Monro parking lot. Complete brake failure occurred at the red light at Reisterstown Road intersection, approximately 40 feet further. The brakes were working properly before I arrived at Monro, they suspuciously failed directly while leaving the property. THE BRAKES WHERE DAMAGED WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS ON THE LIFT AT THE MONRO SHOP!!! Monro is responsible for my damages and repairs.

The tech, Tony, alllowed me to leave the shop property knowing the brakes were not working. I suffered complete brake failure while leaving their establishment. I have made numerous calls to customers service , Emailed corporate, and sent two demand letters to legal and customer service director. They disrespected us , refuse to speak with us, let alone come to an amicable agreement regarding the $1,003.00 worth of damage they did to my vehicle. Dear Sir or Madam,
I had a fuel leak and brought my vehicle into monro muffler.
They told me it needed a new fuel pump. The pump was replaced.
After driving the vehicle i noticed the fuel gauge was not working any more. It registers when it is full. At a half a tank reading I fill it up with 6 gallons. This is a 24 gallon tank. I brought it back and explained the issue. They replaced the fuel pump again saying the fuel gauge is in fuel pump.
I received vehicle back with same issue. The fuel gauge still does not work. I have lost confidence and trust with this branch and REFUSE TO TAKE IT BACK TO THEM. I believe this should be fixed at Monro’s expense. It worked before I brought it in and now doesn’t.

So my husband worked at the Tire Warehouse in Hooksett NH. He loved it. It was an easy job but s**t pay. He was offered a better job with more money better hours and benefits. So of course he took that job. Well two weeks later checks are supposed to come in and guess who doesn’t have one. My husband. So we both called and called and called and then called some more I talked to Carolyn who is the supervisor of payroll and she told me she would talk to him because I was a third party then tried to hang up and I reminded her she needed a number to talk to him and she then hung up before I could give her his name. This was after asking for a manager from their “receptionist ” and her saying it’s a switchboard she just transfers people so I asked to be transferred to a manager she told me there were none in and she didn’t have their schedule so when I asked to be transferred to their voicemail she sent me to payrolls voicemail. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life.

To whom it may concern,
My significant other had her oil changed at one of your stores, as time for the next change came we went to the store closest to our house. The location, 2865 Niagra falls Blvd, S.M. is Bob Price, without even looking, thinking there maybe more damage(there wasnt)he informed her that previous store striped the drain plug and basically nothing can be done, rather rudley stating he wouldnt eat the cost of a brother stores mistake. So we have to contact corprate to figure out wich store we went to for the originall oil change. Even though your stickers still in the window.
With that said, i dont have time for theese type of games, any mechanic knows run the engine, the aluminum pan expands faster than the steel plug, pops right out, so over a 2 dollar part you lost our buisness, congradulations. Not only mine but i promise anyone and everyone i know, when i returned to ask mr price why they were so un helpful he let me know he was”the guy” if i was looking for a fight. Really, because you didnt know a solution to help a customer, your ready to fight an upset( and rightfully so) customer.
In conclusion, your staff is not only poorly trained as service mechanics but even poorer in costumer service.

In December of 2016 I visited the Monro on Lincoln highway in North Versailles pa for a oil change after getting home from the visit I noticed that my car was leaking oil I then returned to have them resolve the leak and when I got home for the 2nd time I noticed my car was still leaking oil I then contacted the manager Ron and the owner Mike and was told to return so that the issue would be taken care of today I visited another Monro because of the issues I had to endure only to find out that the tech working on my car applied sealant on my oil hole to stop the leak that he created and have further damaged my car I Cannot drain my oil because he placed sealant over the hole I am very unhappy about this I would like to hear from someone before I seek counsel for damages because he knew what he had done and no one who is willing to do something like this should not be employed by anyone please contact me at 412-224-XXXXX immediately Please!!!!
