King Kullen was founded by Michael Cullen in 1930. While working for Kroger, Cullen had a different type of idea about how grocery stores should work and that they should be much, much larger. He wrote up his ideas in a letter and sent them to the Kroger corporate office, but his letter went unanswered. Disappointed, he resigned and moved his family to Long Island, where he would start his own grocery business.
Today, King Kullen has more than 32 locations in and around the Long Island/New York area. The company states that they offer “semi-service”, meaning that cheaper prices can be obtained when customers do most of the work themselves. Stores still offer deli service and a bakery, along with full-service pharmacies. In 2007, the company had annual revenue of $800 million.
The company has moved headquarters over the years as they have grown, with the current location being in Bethpage, New York.

The Bridgehampton, NY store, has the worst customer service department ever. I am afraid to approach, for help. I feel as if I am interrupting their day. I get such anxiety, when I know, I have to return to King Kullen.
There needs to be some serious training, for Management and customer service. Most Fish stink from the head down. This means, from the clerk to Management. If you are not trained properly, you can only, show the poor leadership you have knowledge of. I will never shop in a King Kullen store again. Thanks to the unprofessional, lack of training, poor Management and customer service department.

Today with a$90.00 order I waited on line for 25 minutes before I was even able to start ringing up. While waiting I asked customer service to please open another line. I was told that’s all they have. One regular cashier and one express cashier. There were at least 3 others behind the customer service desk. The line got longer and longer and no one came to assist. I shop at the King Kullen in Ronkonkoma NY. You would think at 2:10 pm on a Saturday afternoon this would not be the case. I shop here because it is a smaller store and I can get what I need in a decent amount of time. Shop rite is right down the road but I prefer the smaller store so I don’t have to walk all over these super stores. I pay the higher prices you offer for the convienience of getting in and out fairly quickly. I may rethink this in the future. You may want to address your customer service employees as they were rather rude. The poor cashier that was available seemed a bit overwhelmed as she had customers with coupons and disputing their bill. A shame one cashier carries all the weight with no consideration from her superiors. Just a little constructive criticism. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

King Kullen: Thanks for the info on your closing of the store in Shirley. I found out about it. This way I can budget my finances accordingly.
Thanks again
