Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) was founded in Nashville, Tennessee in 1968 by Thomas F. First, Sr., Jack C. Massey, and Dr. Thomas F. First.
At first the founders worked out of a small house and owned only one hospital, Park View Hospital.
In 1969 the company went public on the New York Stock Exchange. The company continued to grow and they built new headquarters in 1972, also in Nashville.
During the 1970s and 1980s HCA experienced tremendous growth, acquiring hundreds of hospitals. This reached the peak numbers of 255 owned and 208 managed by HCA.
Columbia Hospital Corporation acquired HCA in 1988 for $5.3 billion. The new company was called Columbia/HCA.
In 1997 Columbia/HCA was embroiled in a medicare billing and doctor-kickback scandal which rocked the company. They fired their CEO, changed leadership, changed their name back to HCA, and turned the company around. They ended up paying $2 billion to settle the lawsuits stemming from the scandal.
In 2005 they were again part of a scandal, this time insider trading by eleven of their executives. This scandal cost HCA $20 million.
In 2006 the company was bought out by a group of investors, including the founders. HCA again went public in 2010.
Today HCA manages 162 hospitals and 113 freestanding surgery centers in the U.S. and the U.K. Their revenue for 2010 was $33 billion.

I have received two letters from Social Security about Retirement Benefits from my employment over the years as a nurse at Henrico Doctors Hospital. I have worked there for two separate periods of time in my life: 1978 to 1984 and again from 1985 to 5/1993.
I have deferred vested benefits with HCA from my employment. My father recently passed and I am getting my investments in line and I need to know about my HCA benefits/stocks.
I have the plan numbers which are different, one is a money purchase and amount, one is a stock bonus retirement plan and a much larger amount.
I need the plan administrator to get in touch with me here in Nevada as noted below-

I tried to fax a letter to the Plan Administrator concerning what we feel is the mishandling of medical claims. Your company has provided their employees with medical coverage showing NAP as a benefit. Aetna has denied utilizing this benefit on one of your employees. Our submission of a reconsideration and appeal were denied maintaining their original decision of processing the claim as out of network rates. This is understandable if we did not have a NAP agreement. It has also come to our attention that if our agreement with NAP is too high…a 70% allowance for instance…then they will not honor our agreement with NAP. Being the policies are self-funded, you have final determination. Please advise if Aetna has made a mistake or this ultimately is your preference. Your reply to this, informs us how to move forward on the patient’s account.

I was treated at Allen County Hospital July 14, 2015. The Nurse Practitioner never came into the room for physical and or mental status evaluation. I was scared to death, very few people talked to me. I refused treatment, was never offered an AMA. I was told two years later that I was under protective custody. I was sent to a psych mental facility against my will, I was not given a choice of facilities. I believe that this is against my patient rights. I now suffer from PTSD. the officer who escorted me out of the facility pushed me around and slammed my head against a bed. my neck still is hurting. I was not sent a patient satisfaction questionnaire. I later returned to receive my pt. records, I had another visit in 2008 and I wanted all records, I did not receive those. the medical records physician progress notes made strange comets that came from another stupid facility that I never stated in the first place. I want these comets removed from the chart. however Allen County Hospital, Iola Ks. lawyers state that I cannot approach the hospital about the records or the case of medical negligence. the practictioner allowed me to be removed from the facility without further physical evaluation, which should have occurred. I am holding your organization responsible for the out come of this even.
I expect a response or I will take further legal actions against not only this facility but corporate as well.
I have been a nurse for close to 40 years and have never been treated so rudely in my life.I also had worked at this facility for 17 years and was harassed by the nursing staff. I fear for the safety of all patients, esp. those with psychological issues. There are laws protecting the medical charts and safety of patients in your facilities.
Thank you

Hello, my name is Barbara Wisniewski and I work for LaserShip as an independent contractor in Richmond Virginia. HCA contracted us 9 years ago and for 7 years 363 nights a year I can proudly say that it was a pleasure delivering the doXXXXents from Dominion Hospital, Reston Hospital Center, Stonespring Hospital, Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center and Hanover Emergency Center to HCA Richmond. The contract ends July 10th and it deeply saddens me because I have met a lot of wonderful people that work for HCA they will be missed.I appreciate the opportunity that was given to me working for you! Thank you so much for everything you have a wonderful day!
