The company was founded by Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Diard, former Salomon employees, in 2009, when they sought to design a shoe that allowed them to run downhill faster.
This pair created a model with an oversized outsole that had more cushion than other running shoes at the time. The shoes are named after the Maori language phrase loosely meaning “fly over the earth.”
HOKA was purchased on April 1, 2013 by Deckers Brands, the parent company for UGG, Teva, and other footwear brands.
Hoka One One has come out with so many different models that choosing the right shoe for running or other sports can be difficult.
In December 2021, Hoka One One decided to drop the “One One” part of its name and go by plain Hoka.
While the company is best known for its running shoes, it also makes shoes specifically for walking.
Hoka maintains a corporate office in Goleta, California.

A few months ago, my podiatrist strongly recommended I change footwear. My feet now require shoes constructed with a wide toe box and a stiff sole. Hoka is one of the brand names that meets her approval. After moaning and groaning that I was now required to pay $140 for a pair of sneakers, (an exorbitant amount of money for a plastic and synthetic rubber shoe), I shopped at a reputable store. The clerk observed the walking pattern of my feet and then brought out a pair of light blue Hoka sneakers.
As you know, Hoka footwear is not washable. You may not realize that some people walk on dirt and gravel paths, roads and fields. I’m one of those people who do not sit at a desk all day nor do I stay on paved sidewalks or streets. In a few weeks, my expensive sneakers looked terrible.
Perhaps I’m in the minority, but I really like to look neat and clean whenever I go out. This goal is unattainable with Hoka footwear. While preparing to travel, I decided to purchase another pair of $140 Hoka sneakers, hoping that I’d be able to purchase a reasonable color. The salesman brought out the same light blue sneaker and a light grey sneaker. I now own two pairs of dirty sneakers. I’ve tried to clean the material as suggested on the website, but they still look filthy.
My question to the designers-
Why are certain models of Hoka sneakers only produced in one or two colors? I need a dark grey or a navy blue sneaker.
It is obviously not important to Hoka to produce washable shoes. When customers wear filthy shoes, it gives a bad impression of the company and their products.

I have been recommended by my orthopedic surgeon to wear Hoka shoes for my metatarsal arthritis and ball of foot pain. The rocker sole is the thing I need in addition to the thick sole and cushioning. My podiatrist recommended them, as well. I love them but the fabric is not stretchy enough to accommodate various lumps, bumps, bone spurs, etc. I had to turn to Brooks and New Balance as their fabric is stretchier. I am disappointed because the Hoka shoes (especially the Clifton and Bondi- I have three pairs of Hoka shoes) can’t be worn due to the lack of “stretch” of the fabric. I loved how my Hokas felt other than on foot areas the fabric didn’t yield to PLEASE consider making your Hoka shoes with a stretchier fabric. A lot of people would go back to them! Thank you.

You need a larger size. I went to Fleet Street and they have a foot scanner that tells you your right size. I went up two sizes (Bondi 8) and they are super comfortable with the lumps and bumps as you say.

I have tried to post serveral post about mens Hoka Hupana shoes. WHY WHY WHY don’t you make them in different colors for men other than black or green? Why not white with some colors mixed in. I am tired of just wearing black hupanas. they are the only ones I can wear. Do I really have to go to another brand who has better color choices like Nike or Adidas? I have talked to alot of people who wear hupanas and they all have said I dont buy Hoka Hupanas any more cause all they have is black. Do you really want people going some wear else to buy shoes cause your colors are so limited for this style? i know you wont awnser me but just thought i would try one last time.

I cannot believe how awful I have been treated by your customer service team. I must have 12 pairs of Hokas, from Clifton, Speedgoats, Bondi’s and Recovery Sandals. THIS IS the first time my new BONDI 8 are falling apart on the sole. I EVEN SENT PICTURES and they are telling me that they are UNABLE to help me. THEY ARE only a couple months OLD!!!! PLEASE< PLEASE have a CORPORATE MANAGER call me.

Try to speak with someone in chat. They are more helpful than calling. I have experienced that as well.

Hoka, Anacapa Mid GTX are the most comfortable hiking boots I have ever had, but, the biggest problem with all of your hiking boots is the lack of Vibram sole covering the entire bottom of the boot. I have called customer service before about this issue and they are more than willing to replace the boots under warranty. That is not the problem. Why replace boots with an inferior sole with another pair with inferior sole? The non-Vibram area of the sole cannot and does not withstand any type of rugged hiking without major destruction of the non-Vibram sole. I had hoped the next hiking boot to come out would incorporate a complete Vibram sole, but I just read this morning that the new Kaha GTX is out and unfortunately like previous hiking boots, you have released another inferior soled boot. Why? Please come out with a boot that can withstand rigorous terrain.

Ordered HOKA shoes online, your website. They were supposed to be delivered yesterday. Did not receive them. Did a Live Chat with your representative who found my order, said “it got stuck in your system and they have no way to move it forward, so I have to order it again. They said they would give me 2 day free shipping and a 10% discount and that I needed to call it in. I typed Geeze! and they disconnected from the chat. Talk about making bad customer service worse! Please have someone call me if you care to continue my patronage. Thank you. 318-840-XXXX

I purchased 2 pairs of Hoka Clifton 8 shoes from Dicks Sporting Goods in my town on 7-22-22. They came highly recommended as I am a nurse and I suffer from psoriatic arthritis. Since my purchase, I have switched between the 2 pairs so as to not wear the same shoe every day. On one of the shoes I have purchased, the colored part of the sole is coming away from the shoe. Pretty upsetting as they are barely a month old and are not worn every day. I have contacted several people through Hoka stating I will need to pay to ship them back for online store credit. I don’t mind getting online store credit but the least you could do is send me a shipping label to cover the shipping. I mean I spent $304.74 and I still need to pay to send them back due to a defect that is not my fault. The phone and online customer service reps refused to help me as well as provide me with corporate information. I will no longer support Hoka. I will encourage all healthcare workers I work with to not support Hoka and I will be posting the pictures of my shoes, my receipt to show when they have purchased as well as my online conversation with the representative who refused to send me corporate information. I will return these shoes to Dicks Sporting Goods and give my business to Brooks.
