Gordmans was founded when Dan Gordman married into the Richman family, who operated a small clothing store in Omaha, Nebraska. Gordman became a full partner in the company when he married Esther Richman. The company expanded and in 1948, was renamed Richman Gordman.
In 1975, the company opened a small store named the 1/2 Price Store, which offered merchandise from the Richman Gordman locations at 50 to 75 percent off. In 1990, the 1/2 Price Store had more than 16 locations, as well as 16 Richman Gordman stores.
In 1992, the company filed for bankruptcy and reorganized so that all 1/2 Price Stores were renamed to Gordmans. Sun Capital Partners purchased the company in 2008 and took it public in 2010. Gordmans is publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol: GMAN.
Gordmans has 99 locations in 22 states, mostly in the Mid West.
In 2019, Stage Stores began converting other retail chains it owned into Gordmans stores, with the goal of having 700 Gordmans stores in 42 states by the end of 2020.
In May 2020, Stage Stores filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and began liquidating its stores. Although a buyer for Stage could have prevented liquidation, Stage later announced that they would proceed with going out of business sales at all locations.
All Gordman’s were officially closed August 29, 2020.

That store is trashy now, Trash and dirt all over the carpeted areas. Big stains. Non carpeted floors look terrible. Stuff just sittin around, not organized. Stuff laying in the isles. Besides the loud buzzing which I guess was the lights, there was no other noise, like no music. All you could hear was the loud buzzing and people coughing. Ugh.Screw that store. And it was shortly after they had opened it was that bad. So they don’t clean obviously. ME–This Is SO SAD to hear this. This store is our favorite store and only reason we come to wichita. The store that opened in arkansas city ks is terrible 95% clothes cant move around in the store way to many racks of clothes/shoes and decor is not good. stuff on floor either tripping or running over it with the cart, Very sad!! a lot of people here love the one in wichita but now not to sure I will go back, we were excited for arkansas city one to open and its not worth the drive there. PLEASE do something about the gordmans on Rock road!!! Hate to see it shut down because people wont shop there becuz of being trashy.

If someone could contact me regarding this issue it would be much appreciated. You may reach me via this email or on my cell at 574-315-XXXXX.
Thanks,

To Whom This May Concern,
I have learned that some Gordmans stores are closing… however, some Gordman stores will remain opened. My question is why was my Gordmans’ credit card closed if some of the Gordman stores are remaining opened. Also, I can still order online if I would like to purchase something from Gordmans. Another concern that I have is when I call the Gordmans’ automated system it states that the credit on my card is still valid and can still be used. Please explain.
Respectfully,
Regina Tripp

I purchased a Jessica Simpson purse a few months ago and after one month of using it the inside pockets ere ripping apart and the lining was tearing in the bottom of the purse too! I am not rough on my purse and was not happy to have this happen. We live 3 1/2 hrs away from Gordmans so couldn’t just get in the car and take it back. Now I try to buy a purse online and it takes me to Stage, but wont let me use my Gordmans card to purchase! Very, very frustrating!! Gordmans was one of my favorite stores, but if I can’t shop online any more, I guess I will have to go else where!! Not what I want to do, but not much of a choice either!!

My payroll check from Gordman’s deposited on 6/2 was mysteriously reversed on 6/7 leaving my account overdrawn. Calling the corporate office in Omaha, there is no answer.
Can someone please tell me what is going on?
Please contact me at 402-659-2888 ASAP.
My next step is to contact the local television station to seek assistance.

To whom it may concern, This afternoon I shopped at the Gordmans in Lafayette IN. While shopping at the front of the store in the decor section, I found a reproduction of a tobacco basket in 3 sizes. The prices varied with some of the largest size being 29.99 and the smallest sizes being 29.99. The middle size had 2 different prices at 19.99 and 24.99. I took 2 of the middle sized baskets up to the cashier. They were identical but the one that was 19.99 had a few flaws so I asked if I could purchase the one priced 24.99 for the 19.99 since they were identical (had she said no I just would have bought the flawed one). She called somebody up to the register who looked at them and said let me go check all of these. She came back and said that she thought someone had changed all of the sticker tags on the baskets and that I would actually have to pay 29.99 for this item. She went on to tell me that it happens all of the time. She pulled the sticker back and scanned the skew on the actual tag to tell me the item was 29.99 to prove it, however she didn’t scan the sticker or show me the scanned price. I told her I didn’t think this was fair to me as the customer and I tried to reason with her that if this happened to her in a store I think she would feel the same way. She basically said there was nothing she could do for me so I said I didn’t want the item. After a few moments as the cashier rang up the cart full of items I had I asked if I could see the Manager. The cashier waiting on me and the one beside her said the manager’said name was Brian and that he was there and one of them called for him. The girl who had come up to help me the first time asked what I needed and I said I have asked to see the manager. I then said I know this isn’t your fault but I don’t agree with how the situation was handled and I would like to talk to the manager about it. She then said she was the manager. I said these girls here said the manager was Brian. The girl then said, well he is not here. I then asked her if I could have a number to contact the manager and said very clearly no that she cannot give out a managers information and I questioned not being able to contact the manager of a store with a complaint. She told me I would just have to try to call when he is at the store. I am not sure what number she thought I would call since she had already refused to give me a number. I told her I was going to call corporate and that it was unfortunate because it is always better to handle things at the level they happen. She then said she could give me the basket at 24.99 and I said no thank you. I am very disheartened by this situation for so many reasons. After this person walked away the cashier told me that the person is an Assistant Manager and her name is Tara. The cashier then gave me the phone number to the store to contact the manager. I am so disheartened by this situation and I really hope someone will take the time to listen. I am a very good Gordmans customer. If someone switched tags on this one item, it really wasn’t my fault and I honestly believe the assistant manager should have dealt with that separately and gave me the item for the price it was marked. She definitely should not have told me I would have to pay 10.00 more or refused to give me a contact number for the store manager and if she was really confident in how she handled the situation she should have taken my information and had the manager contact me. She also was not truthful that she was the store manager and that is an integrity issue for me as a customer. We weren’t talking about a huge difference between these items and I feel like the right thing to have done would have been to have given me the item for what it was marked at in this case. If Gordmans has that much trouble with sticker tags being switched at this store as Tara stated, then there should be another way to price items so that customers like me don’t have to deal with this. Honestly, it was just one of those things that ruined the rest of our family Christmas shopping. It was so unnecessary and I can’t imagine Gordmans teaches their managers to treat customers this way. If there would have been a big amount of monetary difference I can see her treating it the way she did. There is so much more I could say but just want to close with this. There are some people out there like me who try to do the right things and are loyal customers and just good people. It is so unfortunate that things like this happen. Ithe wasn’t about the money as much as it was about the way this was handled tonight. I wasn’t unkind to Tara or overbearing. I just wanted to talk to the manager about the situation. I have talked to my family and extended family who are also upset and considering no longer shopping at Gordmans stating they have also not had good experiences there. Thank you for listening. My goal isn’t to get any one in trouble but rather to effect a change so this doesn’t happen to someone else.
Sincerely, Heather Tomlinson
