Goodwill can trace its roots back to 1902, when Reverand Edgar Helms of the Morgan Methodist Chapel in Boston, began Goodwill as a part of the church ministry. Helms and others in his congregation would collect items that had been left for trash pickup, then trained and hired the poor or unemployed to repair and resell the items.
Today, the 32,000 Goodwill locations still collect household items, clothing, furniture, and other items to be sold at store locations, however, the company also offers items for auction on sites such as eBay or on their own website shopgoodwill.com.
In 2013, an article published information regarding the substantial difference between what employees earn and executive compensation.

Quit allowing the resales to jump ahead of the needy families in purchasing household furniture and items. They are taking everything for their own profit. Goodwill was founded on helping the less fortunate. Make some rules and train your workers to be fair

THIS IS A VERY BAD COMPANY, I HAD AN ACCOUNT ONLINE AND THEY CLOSED IT FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. I WOULD NEVER DONATE 1 RED CENT TO THESE PEOPLE. THEY OVERCHARGE ON SHIPPING, CHEAT PEOPLE, SEND OUT DAMAGED ITEMS, LIE IN THEIR BRIEF LISTINGS. I RECENTLY WON AN ITEM AND THEY CLOSED MY ACCOUNT BEFORE I COULD EVEN PAY FOR THE JACKET AND I WAS NOT LATE. I WILL BE CONTACTNG AN ATTORNEY FOR THIS MATTER

My friend and I visited you store at 1717 Clarence Court. West Bend, WI 53095, on 4/23/2022 in the afternoon. We were near the front of the store where the purses were hanging and my friend saw one that she liked; it was hanging on a bar for security purposes. The only employee within close proximity of us was the cashier. She was not within close earshot so my friend projected her voice to call out to her (name was RAE). When she approached us she says to my friend “you don’t have to yell like that I have 40 or more employees in the store ready to assist”. We say to her “where are they”; she responded “look for the blue shirts”. I did say that there was no-one else around other than her. She was not with a customer and we did not see what the problem was on how we got her attention. She assisted us but with much attitude and was very rude, even mumbled something when she walked away. Shen then proceeded to speak about us to another employee who had finally came to the front of the store. When we notice this behavior we asked to speak to the manager. Manager Corey came and spoke with us, she did apologize and said she would speak with the employee, but honestly we felt that she was very dismissive, because instead of pulling Rae to the side to speak to her she walked away from us to the back of the store.
When you are in customer service you are there to serve, with politeness and friendly demeanor; the customer service experience is what keeps the customers coming back. That kind of demeanor was not projected by Rae. Honestly I have no desire to ever visit that particular Goodwill again.

I was under the impression that your agency accepted donations as a large part of your revenue. I brought a large donation of household items to your Richlands, Virginia (24641) location and was very insulted by the manager, Ms. Mullins. She stated that she had no time to accept clothing and that it would cost her more money to sort and hang and that I should take them to the dump next time. The items were clean and dry with sale tags still on most of them. I do not understand her thoughts on the matter. Of course she accepted the furniture and kitchen items and I expect those are on the floor for sale now but isn’t clothing one of your biggest inventory? All the items were clean and from an estate. Most were name brands from QVC and Belks. I was just trying to do a good deed, nothing more, but was instead made to feel embarrassed and wrong by donating the items. Needless to say I will never bother your company with any type of donations or purchase any product at any of your locations in the future. I also intend to tell anyone that asks the details of how your very rude manager did not at all appreciate the kind intent I and my family tried to extend.
Thank you,

We use to donate to the Goodwill in Paintsville, Kentucky . We sent new clothes childrens and adults plus toys that were not opened. This is just to give you an idea of our yearly donations. Two years ago instead of me taking everything in, my husband did. He helped your ( 4 ) employees unload our truck. A 15 minute drive home and I noticed an item that we’ve had in our family for 20 years, that we past down through our family was gone. My husband pick it up by mistake. As he walk in our home I said where is it ? It’s to be past down in 3 or 6 weeks , that’s why it was close to our donations. He went ( 15 minute drive ) back to your Goodwill store , had the itemized slip in his hand. Your 1 lady and 3 men that helped unload said they had never seen him , didn’t know where he got the item slip -dated for that day. My husband told them he made s mistake and would pay any amount they wanted just to buy back the unreplacable item . Your employees stole our family treasure and we went to Paintsville Kentucky Goodwill store twice a day for 6 weeks to try and find it, even ask when would donations be put in the store. We got an ” I don’t do that “. Your employees steal and stand up for each other so they don’t get caught. They’ve done this same thing to so many others that donate and make a mistake and go back and are told “We’ve never seen you “. I know because I’ve told this to so many people and the same has happened to them. I realize now ( 2 years later ) that we should have called the police, but it would have been our word against theirs. So now you know, your employees steal and take the first pick of what is donated. I’m ashamed of this behavior. Your employees in Paintsville Kentucky are dishonest and liars. I have never and will never donate to Goodwill again. I know you can’t do anything now to compensate us, because it’s been 2 years, but I still regret the loss of our family treasure
