The first Ruby Tuesday was opened in 1972 by Sandy Beall near the University of Tennessee at Knoxville campus after he received a $10,000 gift to open his own restaurant. Beall named the restaurant after the Beatle’s song “Ruby Tuesday”, which was suggested by comedian Bob Hope. The chain opened a new store every 9 months for the next 10 years.

In April of 1982, Beall sold the company to Morrison Inc. for $15 million.

By 1985, there were 35 locations.  rt 3

In 1996, Morrison spun Ruby Tuesday off as its own division with headquarters in Mobile, Alabama.

In 1998, the Ruby Tuesday corporate office was moved from Mobile, AL to Maryville, TN.

In June 2012, founder and CEO Sandy Beall announced he was leaving the company.  Sandy was replaced by Raymond Blanchette.

As of 2016, the company currently operates 735 locations worldwide.

To promote the more family-friendly environment, the chain introduced Kids Eat Free night on their flagship day, Tuesday. At all company-owned restaurants, a child’s meal is free with the purchase of an adult entree.

Buffalo Wild Wings Corporate Office

Buffalo wild wings logo

Buffalo Wild Wings (or BW3 for short) was founded in 1982 after friends James Disbrow and Scott Lowery were unable to find a good place to eat chicken wings in Kent, Ohio.  They decided to open their own restaurant and Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck opened in Columbus, Ohio.  A year later, they opened a second location in the Columbus suburb of Westerville.

Chipotle Corporate Office

Chipotle was founded in 1993 by Steve Ells. Their first location was a former Dolly Madison ice cream location. The second and third locations were added in 1995. An additional five Denver stores were added the following year.

In 1998, with 16 locations in Colorado, Chipotle sought outside investors to scale the business more quickly. The largest investor was McDonalds.  The first stores outside Colorado were opened in Columbus, OH and Minneapolis, MN the following year. The company continued to expand and eventually went public (IPO) in 2006.

In January 2015, the company pulled Carnitas from its menu in 1/3 of their locations, citing animal welfare issues with a pork supplier.  The company used “rolling blackouts” in which the stores without pork were rotated until finally resolving the issue in the fall of 2015.

In October 2015, over 40 people were confirmed sick after eating at Chipotle locations in Washington and Oregon.  12 needed to be hospitalized.  The cause was discovered to be E. Coli.  The company was forced to close 43 stores as a precaution. The CDC announced that the company could reopen all locations in February 2016.

As of late 2015, Chipotle currently has over 2,010 locations in 43 states.  International locations include Ontario, London and Paris. The company had $4.5 billion in sales in 2015.

Due to the coronavirus, the company began opening new locations with drive-thru service in 2020.

In September 2020, Chipotle began offering an in-app group ordering capability, as well as a family sponsorship on TikTok.

Chipotle’s corporate office and headquarters is located in Denver, Colorado.
