We had a very bad experience at the Chicago (Vino? Upstairs restaurant) with a server named Derek(sp?). Tall, male, graying short beard, stud earring. He came across immediately as âneggingâ my friend and I (sarcastic, uninterested, like a put-down). We tried to brush it off as âheâs just trying to be playfulâ. We did not like it, but we tried to excuse his behavior and let it slide.
Then- he started complaining to us.
First- He complained about âway too many winesâ (referring to the 100 wines by the glass). He said thereâs âno way heâs gonna learn themâ.
Second- he complained that âtheyâ (management) just changed the table numbers/layout âright before shiftâ and âno one knows where the food goesâ. (He apparently had entered the wrong table number and the runner brought out the food- but it wasnât to the table he meant). We didnât notice that the runner had to stop and ask him which table the food actually was going to, but he was upset about it and interrupted our conversation to complain what âmanagementâ had done.
Third- he asked if we were ready to order. My friend knew but I was still looking. He said âLook, Iâm gonna give you some time to make up your mind. Iâm busy. I got nine tablesâ. He literally said that. My friend tried to assure my again âthatâs just his âthingâ and âheâs just playing aroundâ. At this point, neither one of us were laughing it off any longer.
Fourth- sometime during our meal he âchecked our tableâ and complained again about âbeing busy- didnât have time to get us another wineâ because âhe didnât have any helpâ (he was saying there werenât enough bussers). I stopped my meal now to confront the complaining. I asked âHave you talked with your managers to get more help?!â He then SAT DOWN ON THE BENCH next to my friend and said âMaâam, have you heard of COVID? âTHEYâ donât wanna workâ. He then did a head gesture to a Latino runner that happened to be walking by. We were both shocked. He got up- I donât know if he even noticed that we stopped eating and just stared at each other.
We both had it at that point. I wondered if it was just our table that he was acting like this to, but we werenât. My friend said he was saying things like that to the table next to us and then I heard him complaining to a table with two girls (near us). He was talking about âheâs been there since 2013(?) and itâs been getting worse (after COVID).
We both said that the experience was honestly exhausting. I felt exhausted. It was sad and depressing, too. We both just wanted to leave- which we did. I couldnât shake the things he said and all the complaining he did. We live in Chicago. Iâm never going back to the restaurants.
I was minutes ago at Terra and and experienced the most horrific service from Devante.
He was extremely rude and made the dining experience very unpleasant. The other manager was not professional at all either.
I am really surprised at the the of help at your Dallas store.
I had 4 groups witness this and they can relay to the relevant person as to what had happened.
I have been in customer service, but would never treat anyone like the way I was treated.
