Cash Saver Food Outlet, known to most as simply Cash Saver, traces its beginnings back to 1924, when a group of grocers got together to discuss the power behind combining their advertising and buying dollars. This led to a cooperative of 20 independent grocers, who would become Associated Wholesale Grocers.
The company operates a chain of grocery stores and supermarkets, which operate under various names, including Cash Saver, Checkers, Apple Market, Sun Fresh, IGA, and Price Shopper. The company now operates in more than 35 states and has 3,500 locations. The company also sells four private label food brands, including Always Save, Best Choice, Clearly Organic, and Superior Selections.
Cash Saver relies on Associated Wholesale Grocers enormous warehouses for their stock. In 2012, the company built a 30,000 square foot expansion to their Kansas City headquarters building.
