Cash America International was founded by Jack Doherty in Irving, Texas in 1983 as a single pawnshop.
Cash America grew through rapid acquisition and soon became a chain. The company went public in 1990, trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol CSH. The company was acquired by Cash First in September of 2016 for $994 million. This acquisition has made the company private once again.
The company expanded to Sweden and the U.K. in 1995.
In 2003 Cash America merged with Cashland with a combined volume of $5 billion dollars in loans.
In 2006 the company bought Enova Financial to create an internet-based division.
Today Cash America operates more than 960 stores under the names Cash America Pawn, SuperPawn, and Pawn X-Change in the United States and Cash America Casa de Empeño in Mexico.
In addition to operating pawn shops, the company also provides check-cashing services and short-term unsecured loans (payday loans) through its pawnshops, self-standing facilities, as well as online.
Cash America had revenue of $1.8 billion in 2013.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) took its first-ever enforcement action against a payday lender in November 2013 when it ordered Cash America International, Inc. to refund consumers for incorrect revision of loan agreements.
The CFPB also found Cash America guilty of violating the Military Lending Act by illegally overcharging service members and their families with high interest rates on loans.
Cash America will pay $14 million in refunds to consumers and $5 million in fines for destroying records in advance of the CFPB’s investigation.

Super pawn is a scam and should be sued, they rip people off, and do not care one bit. They will not help you or give names and contact information for you to complain to the higher up people. If you are a day late on your layaway, they will sale your item I put a necklace on layaway paid $250.00 out of the $ 1050.00 it cost. I was late 5 days from the due date no one called, texted, or emailed me anything about the payment. I am busy working, kids and everything else I do. When I got there to make the payment the guy said I forfeited the necklace and they sold it. I called the so-called customer service who sends a message to the district manager David Vale who is completely unprofessional just like his employees, he said to bad I was late and that there is a restock fee of 33% which is $346.50 so far I only paid $250.00 so I owe them money what the F*** is happening right now. This company is a scam they will rob you do not purchase anything on layaway and be carful of pawning anything.
They will rob you without a gun if you are a victim contact me at

They take advantage of people I were told my pawn due today because I pay off my daughter pawn. Had vist the store a week before. Asking do I owe on anything ,the respond no, I come to pay off a loan. Now two are due today. So I pay them off and recive late fee. On both of them, Told the guy three time the one 14k and 10k I want those things out he argue with Me , he told me the wrong . figure talk down to me like if you are the dumbest person in the world and I have to ask for manager Which wasn’t that much help if the pawn due, a certain time tell the person the due date not when they feel like it. Oh today you owe for two items are you going to renew or pay them off i say I’m take them out. So now Im being charge a late fee..for each one of them.

hello and I hope this is were I would send a complaint ! well I was in the cash America pawn store on fireweed in anchorage Alaska and they had a hand gun there that was way over priced for a used gun so I talked with the store manager and asked her is she could do a better price on the gun that she had marked at 799.00 I was told no ! so I showed her that the gun brand new was only 719.00 with two mags and a hard case and I offered her a fair price for the used gun of 550.00 and then she told me that she could not do that cuz she had more than that in the gun and that it came from another state ! I told her that a bad loan is just that a bad loan and to keep it out on the floor at that price is not good and even if she was to sell the gun she would be screwing a customer and that is bad form ! I know about the pawn biz I was a pawn broker for seven years and was the highest paid broker in Alaska in both sales and loans cuz one I never lied to a customer and had many repeat customers for years !! since I came back to Alaska I have picked up over 2000 DVDs so many guns I cant remember gun cases rings pendants tools art and many other items ! I spent well over 15k in most of the cash America store in anchorage since spring of 2012 but as of late they just don’t seem to want my money any longer and I don’t know why and even showing proof of an over priced item did nothing and one more time bad form ! I use to go in the shops weekly and would send friends in as well but as service fell so did my visits and I no longer send friends in to pick items up and no longer leave good things on yelp ! so in leaving I just want cash America to know that they have lost a great customer in me one who spent money and drummed up customers !

I recently had a loan at the Everett, Washington store just off Highway 99. I pawned 30 DVD’s. When I picked them up the package had been torn open and I noticed that my 3 season’s of Dexter were missing. The girl went into the back and returned with them in her hands. Someone said that the package was torn because of inventory or something like that. A little while later I needed some cash again so I returned with all the same DVD’s. I picked them up later on and the package was not torn open. They sat in my apartment for a couple months and today I went to tear off the plastic wrap and put them away. Well, I now only have 2 seasons of Dexter and have no proof that this took place because I trusted them and never took an immediate look. So I am going to investigate where and who I can share this with, i.e. web sites that allow you to rate a business. A few years ago I had pawned a ring at a different location, still in Everett, Washington, and picked it up and needed to pawn it again so went to a pawn shop closer to my home. When they told me the amount I could get on it I was shocked! They said it’s only 10K gold. The one I previously pawned was 24K gold. Well it ended up that I was given the wrong ring. I had no proof and when I called the manager of the store I got no help whatsoever. I chose then to change to another location so as to not get ripped off again. Well apparently it’s not just one Cash America that has dishonest people in them. GET PROOF PEOPLE. Take a picture. Get a copy of the pawn ticket because they never give you a copy back. I will never return to Cash America again and will do my best to let anyone else know that it is not safe to leave your valuables with them.

I have done my business with you guys for MANY years, I tell you in some of your stores you have the nicest and friendliest people and in some you have the rudest and the sad thing is they are your managers that love the power and get a thrill of having control. They will NOT work with you in ANY way and it’s their way and that’s it!! Is this how Cash America treats their customers honestly?? They don’t seem to understand that people go in to pawn their items because they are having hard times not because they feel like it and want to go on a shopping spree. YES, people have hard times… If you’ve never been in that position then God Bless you. But some of us do. And when you call a day after your items due and they will NOT work with you in anyway that’s just plain SAD. All I can say to them is I hope your NEVER in that position cause it’s no fun. I think cash America needs to think about their customers. Your management at your Fort Worth, Tx office at 3737 Mansfield Hwy. Those guys could use some customer service refresher courses. The store manager and the other I’m guessing manager. Power went strait to their heads!! The hell with the customer is their mind set.

I love yoyo statement and feel the very same way!! Although I’m in the Charlotte north Carolina area they are the same way here and its very sad. And I don’t for one second belittle that the BIG BUCS OWNER could give a hoot. He’s rich off of of whom has fallen on hard times and probably feels like hey the more the merrier. …CASH AMERICA SUCKS!!!

Yippie! We finally see the conversion to CAP from Top Dollar Pawn! What a welcome site it is. I’ve already been spreading the great news and suggest they visit the location! Having been gone from there and living here now for 13 years you are a wonderful addition to the small town community!

I recently had a $400 loan on a ring worth much more than that at Cash America Pawn of Nashville #4, 2603 Franklin Rd., Nashville 37204.
I have done thousands of dollars worth of business in this store. I was in the hospital and called to ask them to hold my ring for 5 days more and not to sell it. This request was made one week before it was due to come out. I was told it was still there and they would put a note on it and not pull it until 6/27/14.
I called back 6/25/14 to find out the total cash I needed to bring. I was told it was just pulled out and sold. I asked who they sold it to and it was a local retailer. They had to have been holding it back for Tommy Anderson. I went to Tommy’s retail shop and there was my ring. It was marked $2,950. I had a $400 loan on it.
I am told your local stores are supposed to “send it in for checking and cleaning” before putting it out for sale. THIS COULD NOT HAVE POSSIBLY HAPPENED. I sat down and cried when I learned it had gone. I cried even more when I saw it in his retail shop.
At the very least, I think they violated your policy of sending it in. The manager was Omar. I wish you would bring Pam back to the Franklin Road Store. She is honest and doesn’t pull things out for retailers. She is friendly and nice and this would never have happened under her supervision.
