Enterprise Products Partners was founded in 1968 as a wholesale marketer of natural gas liquids. They completed construction of their first pipelines in Mont Belvieu, Texas in 1972. In 1979 they completed a storage and pipeline complex on that site.
In 1980 Enterprise Products Partners acquired Wanda Petroleum Company from Dow Chemical.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s they expanded the Mont Belvieu facility, going from 13,000 barrels per day of capacity in 1981 to 210,000 barrels per day in 1996.
In 2000 they started operations at the Neptune Natural Gas Processing Plant in Louisiana. This plant had the capacity to process 300 million cubic feet per day of natural gas.
In 2004 Enterprise Products Partners acquired GulfTerra which created one of the largest publicly traded energy partnerships with a value of $14 billion.
Today Enterprise Products Partners is a natural gas and crude oil pipeline company. They operate over 40,000 miles of pipeline both onshore and offshore through their different segments, operate 14 natural gas liquids fractionation plants, and operate 6 offshore hub platforms in the northern Gulf of Mexico.
