In 2015, Monro Muffler purchased the Car-X trade name and franchise rights to 146 locations in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, and Texas.
Monro began expanding the Car-X name by adding additional locations.
In February 2023, Car-X was named in a lawsuit stating that the company harassed and discriminated against female employees.
Car-X has expanded its presence in Iowa by adding 8 new locations in the state in the past few years.

My only intention was to get my 2012 Ford Focus titanium fixed at a honest and fair price, after making my first appointment for October 8th 2024 at 1pm at the Republic MO location, of CarX, Auto and Tire…. I went with this company because they offered me auto repair financing that I was approved for 1000$, so I told them my car had been overheating for about 3 weeks and water was leaking, out of the resavore and maybe a seal from water pump , so I told them I needed a diagnosis and oil change, I had a late start that day of the 8th so contacted CarX and told them im running late, I got there at about 430pm , due to my resavore cap was missing , so they got it in , I kept telling them it was leaking water and they said because I didn’t have a radiator cap, I said I must have forgot to put it on before I got on road to republic which is about hour and 15 minutes to Republic from where I live in Forsyth Missouri, so they said they changed oil and let it run for about 20 minutes with heater on, and there was no leaking so I said ill give it a day or two to see how it does , it still was loosing water and overheating , oil was dark after oil change and still said oil change due……………so I called them on October 11th 2024 to make appointment for October 12th 2024 at 11:30am, I called as soon as I got to Republic at 11:30, and q gentleman said they couldn’t see me that day, understaffed , they where not going to call me, this is great…. so I made it for Sunday , the following day for 12:30 pm. I couldn’t make it because I was in Ava , visiting my new granddaughter. I called following day, Monday October 14th to get it fixed and Eric said he was booked till wendsday October 16th, 12pm, so took it in desperation, wanting to get car fixed before something big happens. I stressed this to Eric as well if he could get a diagnostic in it and asked several times for a pressure test, they just kept going around it and said it was definitely water pump and change out thermostat, so he said the soonest he could get it back in to get water pump and thermostat done is Monday October 21st 2024 , drop it that morning, i contacted him said I was on the way at about 845am, I got it there and they said within about 30 minutes after it was in , said I needed a resavore and didn’t need water pump, or a thermostat, so I did the pay tomorrow financing and it was approved put it in for 479$ for resavor and payments would be 28$ a week, and signed and they took first payment of almost 30$ , then I they informed me I need a fan motor,, then said it was 979$ and payments where 63$ a week, so I didn’t have the full 63$ in bank because it takes few days to receive credit back for the 29$ so I was sent home with a faulty motor fan and it was ok to take all the way back to forsyth Missouri….. it didn’t make it now out of Forsyth, im sitting with blown head gasket , cant get in touch wth Eric, now im in bad shape don’t know what to do???? I live where there is no alternative transportation, now my husband lost his job,, I need to go to doctor desperately as im a type 1 diabetic and my feet are in bad shape because of neurathpy , please someone help mr Thanks Teresa Creason 417582XXXX

I have been a repeat customer with no complaints with Car-X for many years. My most recent experience with the facility at 9965 Watson Rd, Crestwood MO, 63126 has been very troublesome. I dropped off my sons 2005 Hyundia Tuscon for a simple flex pipe repair. The technician fractured the intake which was replaced at no cost to me, however, the car now has an engine misfire and associated check engine light which was not present at the time I dropped the car off for repair. Eric the facility manager seems to be accommodating to repair these conditions. I have now been waiting for almost three weeks for these issues to be remedied by the noted facility. I have been very patient. I am now taking my business to another organization. I understand things happen but this much time is unacceptable. Car-Ex customer service as degraded to the point of the loss of a many times repeat customer.
