The Sportsman’s Guide was started by Gary Olen in his basement in 1970. The company’s first product was a patch for hunting jackets detailing the previous year’s trophy success. It proved immediately popular with hunters across the country.
In 1977 The Sportsman’s Guide began producing a one-page catalog, which was successful. Soon the catalog was called, “Gary Olen’s Hand-picked, Field-tested Outdoor Gear at Ridiculously Low Prices!”
By 1992 the company was mailing eight catalogs annually.
In 1994 the first Government Surplus catalog was mailed.
In 1995 the The Sportsman’s Guide released the first Ammunition and Shooting catalog, in 1997 the Camping and Outdoor Living catalog, in 2010 the Work Wear Savings catalog, and in 2011 the Boating Savings catalog.
The Sportsman’s Guide began as a hunting company but today also sells ammunition, shooting supplies and accessories, clothing, footwear, camping gear, home, garden, optics, gifts, sports, and truck and ATV items.
The Sportsman’s Guide is a subsidiary of the French-owned Redcats Group.

I ordered several items among ammoo on May 4th almost a month ago and have gotten no update on when they will ship. Customer service gives no answer when enquiring when my items will be shipped and have canceled orders on me that I placed because they would rather sell things at a higher price rather than the advertised discount at the time.

This company is a piss poor company. I will never order with them again. I’ve sent them over a hundred 50 emails trying to get them to do something as simple as take out my last payment. They won’t respond to me on the phone they won’t respond to emails. They have the absolute worst customer service I’ve ever experienced in 30 years. They would rather send me emails stating I’ll be turned over to collections if I don’t make the final payment which I can’t because nobody will respond to me.. If I can ever get a hold of the CEOs contact info I will damn sure let him know what type of crap operation and customer service he has. I have spent thousands of dollars as a customer with these guys and will not give them another scent

mail order sent from concord, n.c. to so. st. paul address for sportsman’s guide. no response. called customer service they had no record of receiving the order. another order sent and received 2 of 3 types of items ordered. more enlightening is that I received a letter from bureau of prisons who had the envelope in their hands and returned it to me. Transparently the envelope was removed from sportsman’s Guide and taken to Federal Prison in Sandstone, Minn. where a security algorhythm detected several anomalies and returned the envelope to me. I cannot detect whether the envelope was opened or not so I am changing the credit card information tomorrow.I was directed by James in Mail to lacy(worse than no help…denial) Data to

Interesting. And SG has not response to any of these complaints. I won’t even bother typing mine out. But potential customers, beware: Unless you like getting lied to and ripped off, stay away. This is not an honorable company. Principles should be ashamed to have their names associated with it.

I spoke with Mark your sales person several times before ordering a Henry 357-38 brass receiver short barrel 16.5 inch rifle. I gave him the internet number for the item as well as the Henry model number and was assured they would send the correct rifle. Well when i received the shipping confirmation it showed they sent the standard stainless steel with a 20 inch barrel . I immediately called customer service and was told their was nothing they could do..I will take other action to get my money back but beware this company seems to be run with no regard to its customers and will ship anything to get your money seem like a bunch of phonies running the ship.

First time buyer and subscriber to Sportsmens guide . Place the order over the weekend with the three day shipping. Got a confirmation of order and no tracking. Called today to find out if my prep package would arrive tomorrow. I was placed over to customer service and treated terribly . Was told the item is on backorder and there was nothing they could do and I said fine is there something you can do to make up for the lost time in the waiting when I paid for three day shipping ???? Customer service lady told me that she could just cancel my order if I wanted. I told her that that wasn’t good enough is never something that they can do specially being a first-time buyer here I am waiting for my package to come tomorrow no one notified me either by email or phone . I then told her to cancel the order in my membership . I asked her question being in the customer service field myself if it was important to her to retain customers and she told me there was nothing she could really do .
Very irritated over the situation I didn’t call the corporate offices or go to talk to her boss I shouldn’t have to . Customer service is common courtesy it doesn’t mean they have to give me the item for free but they could bend a little bed what terrible customer service I will never recommend this place to anybody .
If someone just would’ve took the time and listened and actually heard what my complaint was it probably would solve the whole situation but instead they treated me like crap like I was bothering them .
I hope the CEO and the CFO is a reading these emails because this is important this is what’s happening when you’re at home how your companies being run.
If I work for the sportsman guide and I treated my people like this I would expect not to have a job.
I’m hoping someone will see this and respond and not just blow me off, because it’s pretty darn important .

RE: Cancellation of Sportsman’s Guide Membership
On September 22 and 23, 2015, I placed a total of five (5) telephone calls to Sportsman’s Guide and talked to seven (7) different people. I was attempting to accomplish the very simple task of changing my e-mail address and password. As of yet, I have not been successful. The various levels of competency and incompetency speak for themselves.
Insofar as I can not access my account on line without a current e-mail address and password, I cannot order any items in the catalogs that continue to be sent to my home address or e-mail advertisements. If I can’s order anything, it follows that I cannot take advantage of the membership benefits supposedly available through my one year paid subscription.
Please remit the pro rated unused portion of my membership subscription to the above address. Discontinue all e-mail advertisements and mailed catalogs.

I purchased $1700 worth of pontoon seats, and the WRONG ONES were sent, and they were damaged as well. After days of phone calls, and emails, I was told we might get them yet this year and would have to pay the $300 again for shipping. they are rude, and have no customer service. i am going to post this everywhere i can discourage anyone using the company.

and by the way cancel my subscription, and stop sending me your crummy magazine.

Sportsman’s guide is not honest about this coupon that says 20% OFF for New Customers. I order some magtech 9mm ammo and wet ahead to take advantage of the 20% off order for new customers ( TAKEOFF20%), so I registered and joined their buyers club. The truth is that it does not take 20% off as stated in the coupon. However, it only takes $30 off your order as a new customer instead .
My order # 97205189 for which i used Coupon Code: TAKEOFF20% [20% Off Your Order For New Customers (excludes guns)] Expiration date: 2015-09-30 23:59:59
Below is how the invoice they gave me for my purchase which iwas supposed to get 20% OFF.
Merchandise Total …..$213.74
Sales Tax………………….$0.00
Shipping and Handling..$0.00 (ship method:ground)
Buyer’s Club Membership…..$29.99
Sub-Total…………………..$243.73
((((((Less Merchandise Coupon TAKEOFF20% : $ -30.00 ))))))))
Grand Total ……………$213.73
However, there is a problem with this order and these guys overcharged me by NOT applying the coupon correctly !!!!
If you calculate COUPON 20% Off Your Order For New Customers (excludes guns), it should :
……20% off my order should be …20% off my order $213.74 =$42.75 Right????
Therefore my order invoice should look as like i have below…
Merchandise Total …..$213.74
Sales Tax………………….$0.00
Shipping and Handling..$0.00 (ship method:ground)
Buyer’s Club Membership…..$29.99
Sub-Total…………………..$243.73
((((((Less Merchandise Coupon[TAKEOFF20%]: $ -42.75 ))))))))
Grand Total ……………$170.99 plus $29.99 Buyer’s Club Membership = $200.98
So Grand Total should be $200.98 instead of $213.73 they charged me.
My grand total should rather be $200.98 if you applied the COUPON 20% Off Your Order For New Customers (excludes guns)
Just to double check and make sure these guys don’t say they gave me a different coupon in lieu of the 20% Off Your Order For New Customers, i did go back and try to use the same coupon as a new customer….and yes, it only takes $30 off irrespective of your order total and NOT 20% of your order as claimed by these guys at sportsman’s guide.
Please make sure The Sportsman’s Guide sees my comment or complaint?
Thank you.

I am fed up with your company! I just received yet another harassing e-mail to buy your crap today (6/10/15). Below is he last e-mail I sent to Cari (Your “IT manager”) All I want is to TAKE ME OFF OF YOUR NOTIFICATION LIST! What does a person have to do to get your company to do their job? I would greatly appreciate a follow up but I doubt I will hear anything.
Attn: Cari <>
I just received your reply that those notices are a one time thing based on a request. That is incorrect. As a matter of fact the day after I sent you that message I got yet another email from you guys. It just doesn’t stop. I really think I have been more than patient with this. I have gone on the web site three separate times to make sure I am completely unsubscribed. I have called customer service. I have sent several messages via your web site to unsubscribe me yet I still keep getting notices. This has now gotten to the level of harassment.
I really don’t know what else tell you but to completely remove me from your system. Please let me know that you are complete this request.

On Friday January 30th I placed an order online for the Red Rock computer bag listed on sale for $22.49. The order never went through apparently when I had checked back for an email confirmation. When I spoke to a representative on the phone on that Sunday when I discovered no confirmation, they told me to call back and call customer service during the weekday. SOL, they were no help at all. First experience with Sportsman, not so good. Will not be ordering anything from them anymore.

In January 2014 I order 12 boxes of 44 magnum cartridges 50 rounds per box and when I finally received my ammo 11/22/14 (after several delays) I received
12 boxes of 25 rounds each.
I believe Sportsman’s Guide posted the wrong price on their web site BUT I also
believe they should HONOR the receipt they sent me.
I already communicated with customer service but I guess the better business bureau
should be next.

I’m feeling desperate for a resolution. My customer number is # 18981007. First, I have ordered many times from your company. I was told that I would receive a refund on order # 95049819. I was told they didn’t have record of my return. I have sent 2 separate emails with the FEDEX tracking # 687800786970855 that shows your company received the return on 07/14/14 @ 3:47 PM. The return only amounts to 30 something dollars, but that’s not the point. I appreciate any help with this matter. Thanks, Russell S. Trammell
