Hot Chicken Takeover was founded in 2013 by Joe Deloss after a trip to a Nashville, Tennessee, hot chicken restaurant. Joe and his wife created their own recipe, which they taste-tested with passersby on the street! The pair bought a food truck until a crowd-funding effort allowed them to purchase a restaurant.
Today, the company has seven locations, with two being in the Columbus, Ohio, area, along with the food truck, and plans include opening more restaurants in the near future. Customers can purchase chicken by the piece or the entire bird, along with sides such as coleslaw and mac n cheese, as well as banana pudding and waffles.
The company is more famous for its mission statement than its food. Deloss believes in competitive wages and tips, a zero-interest cash advance service for employees, and hiring homeless or former prison inmates.
In November 2022, the Strongsville, Ohio, location abruptly closed with no explanation. However, that hasn’t stopped the company from opening new locations, including the Grandview, Ohio, area.
Hot Chicken Takeover maintains a corporate office in Columbus, Ohio.

I am a new customer and I got a notice in the mail about the new hot chicken turnover on Owenfield Drive in Powell. So they also said they have an app that you can sign up for for special offers and so forth and so on so I signed up for the app you could order on the app and I did and I told them that my local, HCT was on Owenfield Drive and I would like it delivered. Then I noticed when I finish it says I am to pick up my order at Polaris and that’s not what I asked for. I called Polaris. They tried everything to help me, but they had no order so I called , the location on Owenfield Drive not only did they not answer their phone. Their mailbox was full so you couldn’t even talk to anyone. This is the worst experience for a new customer I have ever seen and I’m really sorry because I heard the chicken was really good but I guess I’ll be going somewhere else tonight .

I was order #32 at 2:31:44 PM today at Philadelphia Mills HNT (Franklin MIlls) Phila, PA and bought a family meal for 4. I have to say that was the worse chicken I ever had. The chicken inside of the breading was completely overcooked. It was dry and you could not even bite into it with your teeth. Won’t be back.

I’ve never had a bad meal at the Easton location. My meals were cooked to perfection and never dry except on 8/2/18. I purchased two orders of chicken wings. Some of the wings were very small and all were overcooked. Even though we were a bit disappointed, this will not stop us from going back.
