CSX Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, provides rail-based transportation services.
The company was formed in 1980 when Chessie System and Seaboard Coast Line Industries merged. Through many more mergers and acquisitions, a total of 29 railroads formed what is now known as CSX Corporation.
CSX offers traditional rail services and transports intermodal containers and trailers.
The company transports everything from crushed stone, food, agricultural products to chemical products. CSX is also involved in the development, sale, lease and management of real estate properties.
CSX is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CSX, is a member of the S&P 500, is #259 in the Fortune 500, has over 30,000 employees, and had $12.08 billion in revenue in 2013.
