Gordon and Carol Segal opened the first Crate & Barrel store in 1962 in Chicago, Illinois. They were inspired after honeymooning in Europe where they saw many beautiful and durable products at reasonable prices.
The Segals purchased directly from factories in Europe, therefore avoiding the wholesalers markup. Some products are still directly imported from Europe, though Thai, Mexican, and Indian glass and textiles are also found in Crate & Barrel stores.
In 1968 Crate & Barrel opened a second store, and a third in 1971. By 1985 the chain had 17 stores.
In 2008 the company opened its first international store in Toronto, Canada. Crate & Barrel expanded to Dubai in 2009 and Singapore in 2013.
Today Crate & Barrel has more than 170 retail stores and specializes in housewares, indoor and outdoor furniture, and home accessories. Crate & Barrel has more than 8,000 employees and had $1.4 billion in revenue in 2012.

Why are you people leaving feedback for this company on website that they do not operate?
If you believe that any company HQ monitors sites like this to provide resolution on service concerns / complaints…. oy.
Tammy Robinson says
You are mistaken, Joe. Many companies DO monitor this website.

TRIED TO CALL MAIN OFFICE GET RECORDING SURVEY CANNOT GET THROUGH TO MAIN OFFICES CALLED STORES AND THEY GIVE THAT SAME 800 NUMBER, ARE THINGS THAT BAD YOU ARE TRYING TO HIDE FROM CUSTOMERS? SO MUCH FOR YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE?

My experience with your store has been worse than awful. Your customer service makes promises over and over again and never keeps them. Waiting on hold for more than an hour several times to get to speak to a customer service rep is disgusting and disrespectful to your customers. Being given damaged merchandise in an opened box just should not happen. Being promised a gift certificate for my troubles that never gets mailed is inexcusable. No one seems to follow through on anything. I spoke with a customer service rep named Dan not on one occasion but on several and he does not follow through on anything. Contact me if you would like the details. If not I will continue to believe that either you want to go out of business or simply do not care.

TERRIBLE SERVICE IN CHARLOTTE NC, I received a phone call this past Sunday from my sales associate Susan Nelson assuring me that my purchase would be delivered on Thursday 9/10/15. I was so please that finally my order would be delivered.I received a call from delivery that my delivery would be between 10:45 and 12:45 am on Thursday 9/10/15, I confirmed the delivery with them. I cleaned out my kitchen, got rid of my kitchen set and then at 9:30 am on day of delivery, Charlena Umphlette leaves me a message letting me know that my furniture did not make it on the truck from NJ and I would not be getting my furniture today, and still could not give me a delivery date. I have visitors for the weekend and we will be sitting on folding chairs and a banquet table. All the excuses from Crate and Barrel does not give me the impression that if my furniture was damaged or if I needed to get any customer service needed it would not happen, and this prompted me to CANCEL my whole order. I have waited too long for my delivery and the excuses are unacceptable. I cannot even express how angry, upset and disappointed I am with the whole deal. So done with Crate and Barrel.

My experience started out as very pleasant until my call to delivery department, which turned to dislike very quickly! . I searched and searched for the table I wanted, So I ordered a table and 6 chairs that are stock items, was told that only the base of table would be delivered with chairs and tabletop would be delayed, I chose to have complete order when ready. Delivery Date was pushed out so far, I called to see if my delivery could be sooner than it is because this was a stock item and not custom made. I have already paid it off before I have my merchandise. I was told by the delivery dept that they deliver more often to people in areas that buy more merchandise, I paid $99 for delivery charge and I was totally taken aback to think that she would even say a comment like that referring to the fact that I live in an area that the people do not shop or buy a lot from their store so I have to wait until they take a trip to my zip code?? How insulting, like I stated I paid $99 delivery charge and even if my order was only one on truck it should have been delivered by now. I will not do business with Crate and Barrel after this delivery is complete. I still have 2 weeks to go before my table and chairs arrive. Money is Money and Sales are Sales no matter where you live and who you are. Hopefully my delivery arrives in perfect condition .

Hello, good afternoon. My wife and I have been loyal Crate & Barrel customers for a number of years. We had our wedding registry with CB, every Christmas I shop for both of our families stocking stuffers at CB and my wife wakes up early the day after Christmas to wait in line to buy Christmas sale items. It’s safe to say we have been very please with Crate & Barrel until a recent issue with the purchase of our Kipling Extension Table. We shopped for a very long time and decided to purchase the Kipling Table along with the 8 matching chairs to go along with our existing Kipling Hutch. We absolutely loved these pieces. We purchased the table in November 2012 and in October 2014 we went to put the leaf into the table to extend it and the table would not close. We soon realized the leaf warped. I notified Jessica at our local Scottsdale Kierland store and she had someone come and look at the table and leaf. Jessica admitted it was CB’s fault and we discussed options. Since CB does not carry the Kipling set any longer, we would have to go with another alternative or Jessica mentioned CB would cut us a check for the price we paid for all the pieces, even the hutch since we bought the table and chairs to match the hutch. We waited for a while to see if a new line would come out and we fell in love with and are would like to exchange our pieces for the new ones. The table and chairs are about $1,000 more and we are more than willing to pay the difference but we were notified that a 25% “usage fee” would be attached to our exchange. We have tried calling and emailing to get justification on why we are being penalized for a faulty product that is not our fault and CB has admitted it is their fault. All we want is to exchange our pieces at the original price for the new pieces and pay the difference. We are getting so frustrated by the lack of customer service and communication that we do not want to shop at Crate & Barrel in the future unless we can get a resolution to our problem. Will someone please call me so I am able to discuss this issue? I look forward to speaking with someone from corporate in the very near future.
Best regards,
Ryan Sagstad

When ingot married back in October 2012 I registered with Crate and Barrel. I received several of the items on my list. I received an Impression Pitcher #216-704 and glasses. I have never had an opportunity toques the pitcher because it cracked where the handle meets the pitcher. I did go back to the store and exchanged it. I tried using the pitcher on another occasion but it cracked again since I didn’t have an opportunity to go back to the store unfortunately you no longer carry it. Is there a possibility that I can find or replace his item?

I was in my local Crate and Barrel store and noticed artists work on the wall. They were numbered prints. I am interested in submitting artwork submissions to whoever buys the art. Who do I contact and how does this work?
