Reverb.Com was founded in 2013 by David Kalt, who also owns the Chicago Music Exchange. The company is an online marketplace where sellers and buyers exchange musical equipment.
The platform allows anyone, from individuals to manufacturers to small shops to list musical equipment, new or used, for sale. The company earns a 3.5% commission on all sales. Kalt began the company with a $2.3 million investment and in 2015, he raised another $25 million from Summit Partners.
Reverb.Com also sells items from professional musicians, including Rex Brown of Pantera and Rick Nielson. In 2015, the company also launched a program that connects teachers to music students called Reverb Lessons. Company headquarters are located in Chicago, Illinois.
