Owens Corning manufactures fiberglass and related products.
The company was founded in 1935 as a partnership between two major glass companies, Corning Glass Works and Owens-Illinois. The new company was spun-off in 1938.
Owens Corning’s most well-known product is fiberglass insulation, which since 1956 has been dyed pink to provide visual contrast. The company was granted a trademark on the color in 1985.
Another major product for the company is fiberglass-reinforced plastic which is used in boat hulls, automobile roofs, pipes, and windmill blades, among others.
Today Owens Corning trades publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol OC, is #475 in the Fortune 500, has 15,000 employees, and had $5.23 billion in revenue in 2013.
