Bruce Smith, former rowing coach, and entrepreneur realized that nearly all of the indoor rowing machines that he and others used had been designed back in the 1980s. While rowing hasn’t really changed, Smith envisioned a more modern, connected rowing machine.
Hydrow was founded in 2017. Smith says that they started creating content for the rowing workouts before the machine had even been designed.
The Hydrow rower uses computer-controlled magnetic resistance and has thousands of on-the-water workouts led by former Olympic rowers or other professional rowers.
Sometimes called the Peloton of rowing, the Hydrow was designed for novices who wanted to work out at home, not for the preppy college kid who went rowing on the weekends.
The Hydrow is a premium machine that comes at a premium price but Smith feels that this is one piece of workout equipment that won’t get boring or turn into a clothes rack.
The Hydrow is made in the USA, at a manufacturing plant in Boston, Massachusetts.
Hydrow maintains a corporate office in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
