Harbinger Fitness History

Harbinger Fitness was founded in 1988 by former body building champion David McCrane. The company designs and sells sporting goods equipment and gear, especially aimed towards those interested in body building.

The company offers weightlifting gloves, training aids, strength training accessories, fitness accessories, hand exercise and core training gear. Harbinger’s has numerous patents for their innovative designs, especially for grip and weight lifting accessories. The company recently introduced 12 new products for both weight lifters and strength trainers, including gloves, belts, and grip systems.

Harbinger Fitness was acquired by Implus, Inc. in late 2015. Implus Fitness and Wellness division has more than 75,000 retail outlets in North America and is sold in more than 70 countries.

Zumba Fitness History

Zumba Fitness was founded in the 1990’s by choreographer and dancer Alberto “Beto” Perez in Cali, Columbia. The company offers classes, instructional DVD’s for a dance routine, including merengue and other Latin dances, designed to make physical fitness fun.

The company is now owned by Claudia Leitte, a Columbian pop singer. Classes are performed with variations around the world. Current CEO Alberto Perlman estimates that there are 14 million Zumba students in more than 186 countries. The company offers training classes fr instructors, DVD’s, shoes, athletic wear, and stickers.

Although Zumba does not charge for the use of their name, they do ask instructors to post their certificates in their classes. Headquarters are now located in Hallendale, Florida. The name “Zumba” has no real meaning, as Beto Perez admits he simply made up the name.
